At University of Waterloo the doctoral tuition rates are assessed by domestic and international immigration status and full-time/part-time only; the actual program costs remain the same, regardless of discipline.

University of Waterloo charges tuition one term at time, with three terms occurring over the course of a year:

• Fall Term – September to December
• Winter Term – January to April
• Spring Term – May to August

Non-tuition fees are also charged to your student account on a termly basis.

Other tuition fee assessments

• Non-degree graduate students - pay the research/coursework master's rate indicated below, plus incidental fees.

There are two scholarships available that are awarded based on merit. The Karen McKellin International Leader of Tomorrow Award recognises undergraduate students who have achieved academic excellence and showcase exceptional leadership skills. 

The Donald A. Wehrung International Student Award is another in-house scholarship the university offers. This scholarship is awarded to international students from impoverished or war-torn areas that achieved academic excellence and are in need of financial aid. 

• York University Scholarships 

York University has several scholarships to offer international students. Among them is the International Entrance Scholarship of Distinction , which grants CAD$35,000 annually for up to four years. This adds up to a total of CAD$140,000.

Vanier CGS is a prestigious scholarship that offers up to $50,000 per year for three years during doctoral studies. The Vanier CGS is tenable only at the eligible Canadian institution that submitted the nomination.

The scholarships are worth $50,000 per year for three years during doctoral studies.

To be eligible, students must have demonstrated leadership skills in addition to presentable research potential and high academic standards and achievements in Ph.D. and Master’s program in the fields of Engineering, Natural Sciences, Health, Social Sciences or Humanities.

Canadian citizens, permanent residents of Canada and foreign citizens are eligible to be nominated for a Vanier CG Scholarship.

2. University of Waterloo International Masters and Doctoral Awards

The University of Waterloo Graduate Scholarship is available for students enrolled in research-based programs for full-time studies masters and doctoral studies at the University of Waterloo for international students with a valid study permit in Canada and normally valued at $1,000 per term for up to three terms. Candidates must have Masters or Doctoral Degree and a Canadian citizen, Permanent resident, International/study permit student are eligible to be nominated for University of Waterloo Graduate Scholarship.

3. Ontario Trillium Scholarship

The OTS are to be awarded to international Ph.D. recipients for a maximum of four years. These scholarships are to be automatically awarded to the student for each of the three years following the first year provided the student maintains good academic standing and continues to meet recipient eligibility requirements

This scholarship is available for the best qualified international students worth 40 000 per year for full-time Ph.D. programs at Waterloo University.

Applicants must be international students with a valid study permit for Canada.

4. The Ontario Graduate Scholarship

The 2020 Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS) competition at the University of Toronto is now OPEN. It is a merit-based scholarship and awards are available to students, including international students, in all disciplines of academic study.

Candidates must have a Masters or Doctoral Degree and should be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada. It is valued at $15,000 per year  $5,000 per session for 2 or 3 consecutive sessions.

Available start dates for the current competition are  May 1, or September 1 .  For January 1,  a start date is an option with the award holder’s program start date.

5. University of Calgary Graduate Scholarship Office

This merit-based scholarship is available for both international and home students willing to pursue full-time graduate studies at the University of Manitoba for either Masters or Ph.D. studies.

The scholarship is worth 26 500 dollars for masters and 31 500 for doctoral studies for a period of two and four years respectively.

8. Graduate Award Competition at the University of Calgary

9. The Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation Doctoral Scholarships

This scholarship is available for up to fifteen beneficiaries in the humanities and social sciences for full-time students who are already enrolled.
