Word from the Head of Program

Benjamin KEDDAD

“The decision to pursue doctoral studies is one of the most important decisions a person can ever make. The strength of the DBA program is its focus on professional experience, contrary to the Ph.D that is more theoretical.

Most of our students are as very much experts in their field but the program allows them to learn how to think critically, how to think outside of the box, to bring new solutions to design new instruments rather than using existing ones.

If you are looking to boost your career and to bring economic and social value to the international community, then the DBA is the program for you.”

Université Paris Dauphine-PSL designed a program of 288 hours (supervision time excluded) that accompanies its students all the way through their studies. The Executive PhD takes place over three years and can, with special permission from the Scientific Committee, include a fourth year. The first year is devoted to a methodic and conceptual foundation via courses at the Université and to elaborating a scientific project. In the second year, in-depth seminars are proposed as well as the development of an empirical assignment. Program structure

Our carefully tailored DBA program is available in English or French language and focuses on practical experience rather than pure academic research; making it suitable for individuals looking to advance their careers and bring economic and social value to the international community.

The core DBA program is structured around a comprehensive curriculum that comprises three interrelated core modules, which are essential for all candidates, and an optional research-focused module that allows individuals to specialize in their area of interest. These modules are delivered through intensive and interactive 3-day on-site seminars, providing a dynamic learning environment for participants.

The DBA candidate is required to show his or her ability to conduct original investigations; test, apply and examine his or her own ideas as well as others, and understand the relationship between his or her theme and a wider field of knowledge. As such, the degree will be granted based entirely on a personal thesis of approximately 50,000 words in length (and of no less than 40,000 words). Quality of research, however, is the single most important factor for awarding the DBA degree, not length.

The following diagram visualizes the milestones of the DBA project journey:

phd business administration dauphine

It’s important to note that the timeframes mentioned for each milestone may vary depending on individual progress and program requirements. The program structure and milestones are designed to ensure a comprehensive and rigorous research experience for DBA candidate.

SPECIALIZED TRACK: Our DBA program also offers a specialized track in Performing Arts Management, in parallel and in complements to the core program. This specialization provides candidates with the opportunity to engage with esteemed academics and industry professionals in the fields of music, dance, and theater.

DOUBLE-DEGREE TRACK : In line with our commitment to excellence and international partnerships, our DBA program also features a double-degree initiative in collaboration with the American Imperial University (Florida, United States of America) through a special Doctor of Business Administration in Strategic Leadership program which allow candidates to explore some of the greatest strategic challenges and opportunities facing business today and start applying the findings to corporate scenarios. The double-degree track is reserved for a select number of qualifying eligible candidates and supplements the core DBA program with a focus on cultivating expertise in strategic leadership.

Students in our PhD programs are encouraged from day one to think of this experience as their first job in business academia—a training ground for a challenging and rewarding career generating rigorous, relevant research that influences practice.

Our doctoral students work with faculty and access resources throughout HBS and Harvard University. The PhD program curriculum requires coursework at HBS and other Harvard discipline departments, and with HBS and Harvard faculty on advisory committees. Faculty throughout Harvard guide the programs through their participation on advisory committees.

How do I know which program is right for me?

There are many paths, but we are one HBS. Our PhD students draw on diverse personal and professional backgrounds to pursue an ever-expanding range of research topics. Explore more here about each program’s requirements & curriculum, read student profiles for each discipline as well as student research , and placement information.

The PhD in Business Administration grounds students in the disciplinary theories and research methods that form the foundation of an academic career. Jointly administered by HBS and GSAS, the program has five areas of study: Accounting and Management , Management , Marketing , Strategy , and Technology and Operations Management . All areas of study involve roughly two years of coursework culminating in a field exam. The remaining years of the program are spent conducting independent research, working on co-authored publications, and writing the dissertation. Students join these programs from a wide range of backgrounds, from consulting to engineering. Many applicants possess liberal arts degrees, as there is not a requirement to possess a business degree before joining the program

The PhD in Business Economics provides students the opportunity to study in both Harvard’s world-class Economics Department and Harvard Business School. Throughout the program, coursework includes exploration of microeconomic theory, macroeconomic theory, probability and statistics, and econometrics. While some students join the Business Economics program directly from undergraduate or masters programs, others have worked in economic consulting firms or as research assistants at universities or intergovernmental organizations.

The PhD program in Health Policy (Management) is rooted in data-driven research on the managerial, operational, and strategic issues facing a wide range of organizations. Coursework includes the study of microeconomic theory, management, research methods, and statistics. The backgrounds of students in this program are quite varied, with some coming from public health or the healthcare industry, while others arrive at the program with a background in disciplinary research

The PhD program in Organizational Behavior offers two tracks: either a micro or macro approach. In the micro track, students focus on the study of interpersonal relationships within organizations and the effects that groups have on individuals. Students in the macro track use sociological methods to examine organizations, groups, and markets as a whole, including topics such as the influence of individuals on organizational change, or the relationship between social missions and financial objectives. Jointly administered by HBS and GSAS, the program includes core disciplinary training in sociology or psychology, as well as additional coursework in organizational behavior.

MBA & Executive MBA

Why do an mba with dauphine executive education, reinforce your managerial abilities and your leadership.

The MBA is designed to develop hard skills that allow you to understand the complexity of an organization, and to develop a holistic vision of its varied roles (marketing, logistics, HR, finance, accounting, etc.) and of the interactions between roles and teams. It makes use of roleplaying exercises, case studies, and group work to direct participants to challenge themselves, as well as persuade, synthesize ideas, listen, question their assumptions, and so forth – soft skills that every manager needs.

Gain a dual skill set

The MBA enables managers working in technical fields not typically associated with management (engineering, medicine, law, etc.) to gain new skills, advance in their company, and hold positions they couldn't access before.

Accelerate your career and improve your salary

During the program, managers question themselves, compare themselves to colleagues, and gain confidence. They can then aspire to positions with greater responsibility, whether in their current company or in a different sector altogether. For many it remains the degree of future senior executives. Although Dauphine-PSL MBAs are not simply intended to offer financial value but also to develop your values, it is true that an MBA will often provide an excellent return on investment.

Acquire an international profile

The MBA constitutes a passport for an international career. The program has students and professors of diverse nationalities, offering a truly intercultural approach to management and an international dimension.

Develop your network of contacts

While completing the MBA, your address book will fill up with recruiters, other participants, alumni, and more.
