A user inserted an image of a baseball player in the document. With word processing software, you easily can modify the appearance of an image after inserting it in the document. You can use word processing software to define the size of the paper on which to print and specify the margins.
A feature, called wordwrap, allows users to type words in a paragraph continually without pressing the enter key at the end of each line. As you type more lines of text than can be displayed on the screen, the top portion of the document moves upward, or scrolls, off the screen.
Presentation Software
Presentation software is application software that allows users to create visual aids for presentations to communicate ideas, messages, and other information to a group. The presentations can be viewed as slides, sometimes called a slide show , that are displayed on a large monitor or on a projection screen. Presentation software typically provides a variety of predefined presentation formats that define complementary colors for backgrounds, text, and graphical accents on the slides.
This software also provides a variety of layouts for each individual slide such as a title slide, a two-column slide, and a slide with clip art, a chart, a table, or a diagram. In addition, you can enhance any text, charts, and graphical images on a slide with 3-D, animation, and other special effects such as shading, shadows, and textures.
When building a presentation, users can set the slide timing so that the presentation automatically displays the next slide after a preset delay. Presentation software allows you to apply special effects to the transition between slides. One slide, for example, might fade away as the next slide appears.
Presentation software typically includes a clip gallery that provides images, photos, video clips, and audio clips to enhance multimedia presentations. Some audio and video editing programs work with presentation software, providing users with an easy means to record and insert video, music, and audio commentary in a presentation. You can view or print a finished presentation in a variety of formats, including an outline of text from each slide and audience handouts that show completed slides. Presentation software incorporates features such as checking spelling, formatting, research, and creating Web pages from existing slide shows.

In this paper, critical discussions of electronic presentation software, initially focused on PowerPoint, are reviewed. The potentials and pedagogic implications of newer forms, such as Microsoft Producer, Prezi and Xerte, are then considered. Discussion turns to whether teaching technologies, including face to face formats, constrain or prompt pedagogic innovation. An argument is developed about using presentation software in a different context to construct learning objects (stand-alone online resources), to isolate the effects of the presentation software itself. Finally, non-technological issues which also affect actual use are considered, especially in teaching subject specialisms like leisure studies.

This is a descriptive cross-sectional study conducted in Najran University College of Medicine in Saudi Arabia. The aim was to find out some of the disadvantages of the PowerPoint presentations from the students’ points of views. Only undergraduate medical students were included in the study. A questionnaire was designed that includes demographic data along with other data about PowerPoint presentations. One hundred and ten students participated in this study voluntarily, data was collected and analyzed using Statistical package for Social Sciences (SPSS Program). Result showed out of the total (n=110), 95(86%) of the students believed that PowerPoint presentations have a lot of pitfalls and limitations. Approximately half of the students 57(52%) reported that the most boring factor in the presentations was the large number of slides being presented. About 60 (54%) of the students considered that dim light was the first distracting factor. Whilst 28(25%) said that the flying text or slides during changing to the next one is the most distracting factors. Whereas, 74(67%) of the group reported that twenty to thirty slides per one hour presentation is quite suitable slides number in the presentations. Additionally, 73(66%) quoted that only six bullets in one slide were a quite suitable for effective presentation. Finally, 83(75%) of the whole group stated that mixing PowerPoint with conventional method of whiteboard chalks and talks is the most effective method of teaching. The authors concluded that most of the students believed that PowerPoint presentations have a lot of limitation which can make the presentation dull and boring. Also it is concluded that the use of integrated methods of chalks and talks in association with PowerPoint presentation is the most effective and satisfying tool for the students

The main difference between PowerPoint, Word, and Excel is the purpose of each software. PowerPoint is used for making presentations. Excel is the most helpful for capturing, tracking, and analyzing data with the help of graphical charts. Word is used for creating documents such as reports and books.
But, there is a lot more to it and in this article, I’m going to talk about what each one does, the differences between the three, and finally, how can we leverage the power of the three applications by working with all of them together. So, keep reading!

In today’s class, we will be talking about word processing. Enjoy the class!
Word processing is the phrase used to describe using a computer to create, edit and print documents. It is also the creation, input, editing and production of a document with a computerized device. A word processing package enables you to type in and manipulate text. It helps you to enter, store, format, copy and print text. It is software that turns the computer into a sophisticated typewriter. The word processing software allows you to determine how you want the finished page to look i.e. page size, line, width, margin etc. Once you are satisfied that everything looks all right, you can print out any number of copies on paper.
Basic features
The basic functions are
- Text editing
- Creating documents.
- Text can be typed, inserted, deleted.
- Text can also be centred between the left and right margins.
- Headers and footers
- Page numbering.
Functions include layout setting, copy, move, search and replace text can be copied or moved within the document and any occurrence of text can be replaced with another block of text.
The simplest programs that do word processing are known as text editors. These programs are designed to be small, simple and cheap. Almost all operating system made comes with at least one text editor built-in. most editors are saved files in a special format called ASCII (American Standard Code for Information Interchange).

A word processor is a computer software application that performs the task of creation and printing of electronic documents. There are several types of word processors; they include Word Perfect, Word Star, MS-Word, Loco Script, Ami-Pro, Word Craft, and WordPad etc.
- Microsoft Word : it is part of the Microsoft office suite. Word consistently wins the title of the most widely word processing program worldwide. Besides basic word processing functions. Word also has desktop publishing capabilities. All the Microsoft office programs have the capacity to work together. An excel worksheet can exist within a word document. Word also has the power to easily merge with Excel lists or from access database files.
- Corel Word Perfect : word perfect suite contains several software programs essential for business and home users. The suite comes with WordPerfect word, Quattro Pro spreadsheet program, Corel presentations and WordPerfect mail.
- OpenOffice: The OpenOffice suite includes a word processor, spreadsheet, presentation program, database and graphics editor. As with Microsoft Office, the OpenOffice programs also work with one another.

The major difference between a text editor and word processor is that word processors have special features that are used to beautify texts. They have varieties of colours and other icons while the text editors can only accept text with little features such as changing of font’s colours, sizes, etc. The common type of text editor is the notepad that comes with window systems.
Creating a word document
Click on the start icon to display the start menu and then click on the Microsoft word icon. The program gives you an empty one to type.
How to save a document
- Start a new document in Word and type your text.
- Click the file in the top left-hand corner of the screen.
- From the menu, choose to save as.
- A ‘Save As’ dialogue box will come up. It will show the folder where you will be saving.
- Type in the name of your document and click Save.
NOTE: You can also save your document using the shortcut “Ctrl S”
Saving formats
Documents can be saved in different file formats depending on what purpose you intend to use it for. Click on the down arrow to the right save in section of the dialog box, which will display a drop-down menu, choose the file format you want for your document. File formats include HTML, PDF, RTF etc.

- On the menu bar, click File and then click the open icon.
- Click the folder and the file you want to open.
- Click the file.
- Click open.

Increasing or decreasing the size of a table as per requirement is known as resizing a table. A table can be resized length-wise or width-wise depending upon the data item.
Merging and splitting of cells
Merging cells means to combine cells by converting one or more cells into a single cell.
Splitting cells is the reverse of merging cells. It happens when a particular cell is divided into a number of small cells.
Cell alignment
Cell alignment defines the position of data/text placed within the boundary of a cell.
There are two different types of alignment of text within a cell:
- Vertical alignment — It arranges the text in an upright direction in the selected cells. It is further categorised as Top, Center and Bottom .
- Horizontal alignment — It arranges the text within the same level of the selected cells. It is further categorised as Align Text Left, Align Text Right, Center Text and Justify .
Write all the steps to perform the following tasks
To create a table, follow these steps:
Step 1: Click at the position on the document where you want to insert a table.
Step 2: Click the 'Insert' tab on the ribbon.
Step 3: Select 'Table' and then 'Insert Table' from the drop-down list. The 'Insert Table' dialog box will appear on the screen.
Step 4: Enter the number of columns and rows in the 'Insert Table' dialog box.
Step 5: Click 'OK' . The table will be created.
Deleting a column in a table
To delete a column in a table, follow these steps:
Step 1: Select the column that is to be deleted.
Step 2: Click the 'Layout' tab on the ribbon under the 'Table tools' option.
Step 3: Now in 'Rows and Columns' group, click 'Delete'. A drop-down list opens with four options — (1) Delete Cells (2) Delete Columns (3) Delete Rows (4) Delete Table.
Step 4: Select 'Delete Columns' from the drop-down list.
Thus, the selected column will be deleted.

To insert a row in a table, follow these steps:
Step 1: Set the cursor in any cell in the row above or below where you want to insert a new row.
Step 2: Click the 'Layout' tab on the ribbon under the 'Table Tools' option.
