ONSA, School and Room Assignments: August 2023 Civil Service Exam (CSE)

MANILA, Philippines – The Civil Service Commission (CSC) releases the School and Room Assignments for the August 2023 Civil Service Exam – Pen and Paper Test (CSE-PPT) a few weeks before the exams.

The Online Notice of School Assignments (ONSA) for Professional and Subprofessional Levels eligibility exams is available on the CSC’s official regional pages as well as the official website.

How to use ONSA?

Checking the room assignments through CSC’s Online Notice of School Assignments is fairly easy. Here are the steps.

Go to the ONSA page from CSC .
Enter the Last Name, First Name, Ext. Name (if any), MIddle Initial and Date of Birth.
Select the date of examination (August 20, 2023).
Select the type of examination (Professional or Subprofessional).
Accept the CSC Privacy Policy.
Press the Submit Button.
If problems persist, contact the Regional office for assistance.

2023 Civil Service Exam Schedule

CSE-PPT aims to establish a Register of Eligibles (RoE) from which certification and appointment to first and second-level positions in the civil service.

This is with exception to those involving the practice of profession and/or covered by special laws, provided the eligibles meet the qualifications and other requirements of the positions.

Additionally, passers of Bar and Board exams may opt not to take the Civil Service Exam as they are already considered exempted pursuant to Republic Act 1080.

Should the examinee can’t access the room assignment, he/she can directly verify with the concerned CSC Regional or Field Office.

Examinees shall bring the following requirements on examination proper. Valid Identification Card – preferably same ID presented during filing of exams; if no valid ID, bring original PSA-issued birth certificate; Notice of School Assignment generated thru ONSA, Application Receipt (if applicable); black ball-pen, water or non-alcoholic beverage placed in a transparent container.

In preparation for the upcoming exam, examinees can visit the assigned school/testing venue before the examination day to be familiar with the location.

On the exam proper, CSC reminds examinees to report earlier at the testing venue. Testing centers will be open starting at 6:00 A.M.

Additional Reminders

Examinees must take note of the succeeding additional reminders from CSC.

Gates of testing venues will close at 7:30 A.M. Latecomers will not be admitted.
Cellular phones or similar gadgets, calculators, wristwatches, books, and other forms of printed materials are not allowed inside the examination premises.
Examinees shall adhere to the attire set by the Civil Service Commission. Proper attire shall be worn on the day of exams.
Similarly, wearing slippers, short pants, a sleeveless shirt and blouse, or similar clothes are not allowed.

If you are taking the Civil Service Exam (CSE), one of the things you need to know is your school and room assignment. This information is required as you have your schedule for the test. Please follow the guidelines below which explains the steps on how you can check your room and school via Online Notice of School Assignment (ONSA) by the Civil Service Commission team.

As finding jobs in the Philippines, becomes more difficult, having more in terms of career options is a definite advantage. So, what is the Civil Service Exam?

The Civil Service Exam is an eligibility test created by the Civil Service Commission. It isn’t as prestigious as the PRC Licensure Exam , the Bar Exam, or the Medical Board Exam, but it is something worth putting in your resume as it gives the candidate the qualifications to express their interest to serve the government.

The Civil Service Exam comes in two different forms: The one for professionals and the other one is for sub-professionals. Each comes with its own set of requirements and criteria and passing it offers a totally different eligibility. The exam is also available for taking in two different ways, either through the Paper and Pencil Test (PPT) or thr Computer Assisted Test (CAT).

In terms of scope, this eligibility exam covers the following subject matters:

English and Filipino vocabulary
Proper grammar and accurate usage,
Organizing paragraphs
Reading comprehension
Logic and analogy
Numerical reasoning
Clerical reasoning, functions, and procedures
Philippine Constitution, especially the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees.

Why should you take the Civil Service Exam?

Passing the Civil Service Exam is your ticket to more job opportunities, especially if you haven’t completed your Bachelor’s, Master’s, or even Doctor’s degree. It opens more doors will open for you career-wise, especially if you are interested in working for the government.

Once you pass the Civil Service Exams, it automatically makes you eligible to work in government agencies like GSIS, SSS, BIR, DSWD and DPWH. That said, being a civil service eligible person allows you to see how and branch out into different career paths. For some people, it opens the doors to heroic and noble jobs like working in the PNP, AFP, and Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP). For some otbers, it grants them the bragging rights for passing a tough exam that requires at least 80% to pass.

Though it does allow the option for more career opportunities, taking the Civil Service Exam is not a walk in the park. In fact, the exam itself is hard, with only 10% average passing rate in the country. Nevertheless, passing the exam also means that you msy be able to work for the government, which isn’t exactly bad at all. In fact, it may even be better in the long run because of the incredibly attractive benefits and compensation package.

Taking the Civil Service Exam

Once you decide to take the Civil Service Exam, there are a few things that you need to prepare and be mindful of.

To make it easier for you, we rounded up the list of requirements and everything else that you’ll ever need, up until the day you take the exam, in one complete guide to taking the Civil Service Exam.

Qualification

Before you can take the Civil Service Exam, here are some things that you need to satisfy first:

All applicants must be Filipino citizens;
at least 18 years old on the date of filing of application;
Has good moral character;
Have not been convicted by final judgment of an offense or crime involving moral turpitude, or disgraceful or immoral conduct, dishonesty, examination irregularity, drunkenness, or addiction to drugs;
Have not been dishonorably discharged from military service or dismissed for cause from any civilian position in the government; and
Have not taken the same level of Career Service Examination, either through PPT or CSC Computerized Examination (CSC COMEX), within three months before the date of examination.

Note that pregnant women are allowed to take the CSE-PPT, but only if the applications were from those who are, at most, 6 months on the way on the day of the exam due. This is to reduce the risk that the strenuous pre-exam to post-exam activities may have for pregnant women.

Documentary Requirements

For applicants looking to take the Civil Service Exam, some documentary requirements will need to be prepared. To apply for the exam, the applicants must submit:

A fully accomplished application form (CS Form No. 100), which may be downloaded from the CSC website at www.csc.gov.ph, and printed on legal size bond paper;
Four (4) identical passport size ID pictures with name tag; and
Original and photocopy of any of the accepted ID cards , preferably valid or not expired on the date of filing of application.
an examination fee of PHP500.

Some things to remember:

Applicants without date of birth in their ID cards must present an original and photocopy of their birth certificate issued by the Philippine Statistics Authority or the Local Civil Registry .
For applicants holding dual citizenship as well as those recognized as citizens of the Philippines under Sec 1, Article IV of the 1987 Philippine Constitution, must present an original and photocopy of their Identification Certificate issued by the Bureau of Immigration.

Applicants must submit the requirements at the CSC RO, or any of its FOs with jurisdiction over the testing center where they wish to take the exam.

New CSC rules for taking the exam in 2021

In view of the restrictions this 2021, the CSC has introduced the following changes in the conduct of the CSE-PPT:

Only 50% occupancy per testing room is allowed to ensure adequate space for physical distancing.
Examinees with special needs (e.g., pregnant women, persons with disability, elderly), along with examinees with comorbidities are assigned in separate room/s.
Examinees are required to pre-accomplish a Health Declaration Form (to be posted on the CSC website for downloading and printing) the day before the exam. The form will include a temperature reading which will be written only upon going through thermal scanning at the school/testing venue main entrance on exam day.

Note that those examinees who did not pre-accomplished the Health Declaration Form shall be required to accomplish the form at the designated area near the entrance.

Examinees are also required to register an account with StaySafe.PH, a contract tracing app. They are strongly encouraged to update their StaySafe.PH health status every day, within 14 days before and 14 days after the exam date.
The Orientation/Briefing prior to the test proper has been removed. Instead, the CSC will release an “Examinee’s Guide” approximately 1 to 2 weeks before exam day. This guide will contain comprehensive information on the conduct of the examination, including guidelines and procedures to be observed before exam day, on exam day, and after exam day, as well as all the health and safety protocols to be observed. It shall be the responsibility of each and every examinee to access and be able to understand thoroughly the Examinee’s Guide.
Examinees are required to wear face masks and face shields and practice physical distancing at all times during physical filing of application and on the day of exam.
Examinees must bring the Health Declaration Form on the exam day, along with no more than 100 mL of alcohol/hand sanitizer. These are required along with the standard exam requirements like valid ID card, birth certificate (for those without date of birth on their ID card), and black ballpen/s.
Examinees are also still allowed to bring water or beverage, provided that they are in a transparent container, along with candies or biscuits.
A Health Monitoring Team will be present on the day of the exam to monitor the observance of health and safety protocols. The team is on charge of handling any case of examinees or examiners who would manifest any COVID-19 symptoms on the day of exam.

How to Know your Online School and Room Assignment (ONSA) for the Civil Service Commission (CSC) Exam

Once the application is filed, examinees will need to check the Online School and Room Assignment (ONSA) page on the Civil Service Commission’s official website for information on the school assignments, as well as the assigned room for the exams.

In this guide, we’ve listed a detailed procedure below on how you can find your room and school assignments through the ONSA. To do this, the applicant must:

1. Go to the Civil Service Commission’s official website.

2. Then, click the ONSA option on the right side of the screen.

3. Once you reach the page and the link appears to be offline, then it only means that there are no upcoming schedules available yet.

Note that you will have to keep revisiting the site from time to time to check if the latest schedules have been posted. Take note that the link for the soonest scheduled exam will be available at least 2 weeks before the exam.

If schedules are available, the applicant must read the directions carefully before filling out the form with their personal information.
In the section where you have to put your middle initial, make sure to type it in with no periods.
Then, fill out space with your birthday in the format MM/DD/YYYY.
Once done, review the form to ensure that the details are accurate, including the exam type.
Then, Press the button to create your room.
Once done, the applicant will need to print the ONSA and carry it on the examination day.

CSC Regional Field Office Inquiries

For any concerns regarding the creation of the ONSA account, it is advisable to check your room assignment and schedule at the nearest CSC Regional/Field Office at least one week before the selected Civil Service examination day.

Note that the applicants for the Civil Service Exam are allowed to request for transfer of testing center, but it jas to be done no later than five (5) working days after the deadline of filing of application.

To request for transfer of testing center, the applicant must submit a written request to the CSC RO/FO where the application was filed, along with the reason for the transfer of testing center, along with supporting evidence and a copy of the Application Receipt.

Read the instructions carefully and properly fill out the form with your personal details.
When you reach the part that requires you to put your middle initial, online put the letter in. Make sure you don’t put periods in this portion. For example, you only need S for Santos and DJ for De Jesus.

March 2023 CSE Room Assignment: Complete List

The Civil Service Commission posted the room assignments for the March 2023 Civil Service Examination: Pen and Paper Test few weeks before the examination date.

General Instruction to Examinees

A. reminders.

Wear proper attire on the examination day (Sleeveless shirt/blouse, short pants, or slippers are not allowed).
Examinees should be at their assigned school/testing venue early on the examination day, Testing venues shall be open at 6:00 a.m.

NOTE: Gate of testing venues shall be closed at 7:30 a.m. Examinees who will arrive later than 7:30 a.m shall NOT be admitted in the testing venue.

Bring the following items on the examination day:

a. I.D. Card, presented during the filing of application even if already expired. Otherwise, bring any of the following I.D. cards, which must be valid (i.e. not expired): Driver’s license; Passport; GSIS ID; BIR ID(ATM type/TIN card type with picture); Voter’s ID; Postal ID; current Company/ Office ID; current School ID (validated for the current school year/ semester/ trimester); PhilHealth ID (must contain the bearer’s name, clear picture, signature and PhilHealth number); PRC ID; Police Clearance/ Police Clearance Certificate; NBI Clearance.

b. Original PSA (formerly NSO) Birth Certificate (if ID card has no date of birth);

c. Application Receipt, with corresponding Office Receipt (if available)

d. Notice of Assignment generated thru the ONSA (as applicable)

e. Black ballpen/s only; and

f. Clear bottled water, or preferred beverage (except alcoholic beverage) place in the clear/ transparent container, and/or candies/biscuits, if any, which shall be subject to inspection by the Room Examiner/ Proctor.

B. Preliminary Activities/ Documentation

Before occupying their designated sears, examinees shall put all their personal belongings in front of the room. Baseball caps, sunglasses, jackets/sweat shirts (except in cool places, or as need), Examinees should also empty all their pockets of any pieces of paper and all other materials/items. Examinees wearing long sleeves should roll the same up to elbow level.
For the preliminaries, the only items that the examinees should bring with them in their seats are: 1) Black ballpens/s only; 2) Two extra pictures (to be given by the Room Examiner on the examination day); 3) Application Receipt/ Notice of Assignment/ Admission Pass (as applicable); and 4) Clear bottled water/preferred beverage, except alcoholic beverage, placed in clear/ transparent container and/ or biscuits/candies, if any.
Three (3) important documents in the examination shall be accomplished: the Answer Sheet, the Examinee Attendance Sheet, and the Picture-Seat Plan. Instructions on accomplishing these for s shall be provided on the examination day.
In accomplishing the above forms, use Black Ballpen only for all written and all shaded entries.
Print legibly personal information as required:

Name – should be in the format First Name, Middle Initial, Last Name, and Extension Name (if any). Example: JUAN A. DELA CRUZ III

Sex – should be written in full | Correct: FEMALE/ MALE | Wrong: F/M

Date of Birth – should be written completely in the format month, day and year. The month should be in full word or abbreviation and not in number. The year should not be abbreviated. Correct: October10, 1974 or Oct. 10, 1974 Wrong: 10/10/1974

After accomplishing the forms on the Proctor’s table, examinees should put/ keep their Application Receipt/ Notice of Assignment/ Admission Pass or any other items in their bags in front of the room, before they return to their respective seats.

C. The Answer Sheet

The Answer Sheet has numbers written vertically that correspond to the question items. After each question are five (5) circles corresponding the five (5) answer options. For each question, choose the correct or best answer from among the given answer options, and on the Answer Sheet, shade neatly and complete the circle that corresponds to your choses answer option using Black Ballpen only.

Below are important reminders in accomplishing the Answer Sheet:

Use BLACK BALLPEN only in filling out all text fields and in marking/shading answers.
DO NOT USE gel pen, sign pen, fountain pen, friction pen, or any other kinds of pen, including other colors of ball pen.
Shade neatly and completely the circles that correspond to your answers.
To change an answer:

– Put an “X” mark over the original answer, then shade the circle that corresponds to the new and final answer.

– DO NOT USE correction fluid, correction pen, correction tape, pen eraser, or any other similar materials.

– Examinees are allowed to CHANGE AN ANSWER for each test item ONLY ONCE. DO NOT make any stray/unnecessary marks on the Answer Sheet.

D. Test Proper

For the test proper, the ONLY ITEMS to remain with the examinees in their seats are:
Accomplished Answer Sheets;
Black Ballpen/s; and
Clear bottled water/beverage, and candies/biscuits (if any).
Use of any aid in answering the test questions (i.e. calculators; books, dictionaries and any other forms of printed materials; watch calculators; cellular phones, tablets and any other gadgets; and all other similar materials/items) is strictly PROHIBITED.
At any point during the examination, DO NOT STAND TO SUBMIT YOUR TEST MATERIALS. The Proctor shall approach examinees at their seats to collect their Answer Sheets and Test Booklets.
All remaining examinees, whether or not they finish answering the test by 10 minutes before the allotted time, shall stay inside the room until properly allowed to leave. Waiting time may take 30 minutes to one hour.

Passing Grade

To pass the test, an examinee should get a general rating of at least 80.00.

Release of Test Result

The List of Passers shall be uploaded/posted on the CSC website www.csc.gov.ph within 41 to 60 days after the examination.

Examination rating can be generated approximately 15 days after the List of Passers is posted, using the Online Civil Service Examination Result Generation System(OCSERGS) which can also be accessed through the CSC website.

Those who pass the examination should verify with CSC Regional Office the availability of their Certification of Eligibility. A complete directly of the CSC Regional Offices is available at the CSC website for reference.

Passers must personally claim their Certification. Representatives are not allowed to claim the same. The basic requirements in claiming the Certification are.

At least one identification (I.D.) card, preferably the same I.D. card presented during filling of application , or any of the other accepted I.D. cards in which case the I.D. card must be valid i.e. not expired. The I.D. card must contain the holder’s name, clear picture, date of birth (if any) and signature, and the name and signature of the issuing agency’s current head/authorized representative.

Note: ID cards accepted are: Driver’s License,, SSS ID, GSIS ID, PhilHealth ID(must contain the holder’s name, picture, signature and PhilHealth number), current Company/Office ID, School ID (must be validated for the current school year/semester/trimester), Postal ID, BIR ID (ATM type/TIN card type with picture), Barangay ID, Voter’s ID, Passport, PRC ID, and Police Clearance. Any other ID card not included in the above list shall NOT be accepted.

Application receipt, if available.

The CSC Regional/Field Office, though, may require additional document/s as necessary to establish the identity of the passers.

Claiming of Certification shall be available approximately 30 days after the posting of the List of Passers.

A corresponding Advisory on these matters shall be posted on the CSC website. For any other concerns on examination results including queries on examinee number, examinees should verify directly with the CSC Regional Office concerned. The CSC Regional Offices shall handle the release and distribution of the examination results and Certification of Eligibility.

The Anti-Cheating Law

The CSC uses a highly reliable system to detect cheats. Examinees are strongly warned that any form of cheating in any civil service examination shall be considered a violation of Republic Act No. 9416, which shall be a basis for the filing of an administrative case and/ or criminal prosecution.

The forms of cheating are, as follows:

Use of crib sheets or “codigo”;
Impersonation;
Employing a “poste” or a person inside or outside of the examination room who may not be an examinee but provides examinees with answers;
Collusion of whatever nature between examinees and examination personnel;
Examinee number switching;
Possession and/ or use fake Certificate of Eligibility;
Such other acts of similar nature which facilitate the passing of examination.

Any person convicted of any crime involving any form of cheating shall be meted the penalty of imprisonment from six (6) to twelve (12) years and a fine of not less than Fifty Thousand Pesos (P50,000.00).

Apart from imprisonment and fine, offenders who are in government service shall be administratively liable for Dishonesty and Grave Misconduct and will be imposed the penalty of dismissal from the service with all its accessory penalties of forfeiture of retirement benefits except leave credits earned and personal contributions to the GSIS, if any, cancellation of eligibility, bar from taking any Civil Service Examination, and perpetual disqualification from re-entering the government service. On the other hand, private individuals shall be perpetually barred from entering the government service and from taking any Civil Service examination.

Suspending the Conduct of Civil Service Examinations in Times of Calamities.

The CSC, in time of calamities (natural or man-made), may suspend the conduction of examination. Such suspension may be partial, or full (either at the regional, or national level) based on assessment of conditions as support by reports issued by authorized government agencies as well as multi-media reports.

In any such event, the CSC shall immediately issue related directive and post an Examination Advisory on the CSC website www.csc.gov.ph . The CSC Regional Offices shall likewise post the advisory on their respective websites, as applicable. Press Release shall be issued and all efforts exerted to disseminate information, including use of social media.

Eligibility

The Career Service Professional Eligibility is appropriate for occupations at the first and second levels of government that do not need professional practice and are not protected by other legislation. On the other hand, the Sub-Professional Eligibility is only appropriate for first-level government positions that do not require professional practice and are not otherwise governed by other laws.

The creation of a Registry of Eligibles is the major objective of the CSE-PPT exam (RoE). Except for those positions that require professional practice and are subject to specific laws, this register will serve as the basis for certification and appointment to first- and second-level positions in the civil service. The candidates must also fulfill all other qualifications and job requirements.

Civil Service Exam Schedule 2023 (Professional and Sub-professional)

Civil Service Exam Schedule 2023 for Professional and Sub-professional Paper-and-Pencil Test (CSE-PPT) is now posted and will accept applications on the date of filing (below).

First batch of the exam will be on March 26, 2023 while the second batch is scheduled on August 13, 2023 . See the deadline and filing of application below.

Civil Service Exam Schedule in 20 23 in the Philippines

The Commission has also pointed out that acceptance of applications will be on a first-come-first-serve basis and they have quotas for every batch of applicants. That means applications may no longer be accepted even before the deadline if the target and quota of number of examinees has already reached by the CSC Regional and Field Offices.

Qualifications When Applying for the Civil Service Exam in 2023:

All applicants must meet the following qualification requirements:

Filipino citizen

At least 18 years old on the date of filing of application of exam

Of good moral character

Must not have been convicted by final judgement of an offense or crime

Must not have been dishonorably discharged from military service or dismissed for cause from any civilian position in the government

Must not have taken the same level of Career Service Exam in less than 3 months (3 months Prohibition Period in taking the same level of exam)

Requirements When Applying for the Civil Service Exam in 2023:

Fully accomplished Application Form (CS Form No.100)
Application Fee of P500 for PPT (P600 for COMEX)
Passport size (4.5 cm x 3.5 cm or 1.8 inches x 1.4 inches)
Colored, with white background
Taken within 3 months prior to the date of filing your application
Printed on good quality photo paper (photo does not peel off)
In standard close-up shot (from shoulder level up with the head and face occupying at least 80% of the picture and with the name tag positioned at approximately 1 inch or 2.54 cm below the chin)
In bare face (no eyeglasses; no colored contact lens; no headdress; no bandana, or any other accessories that may cover the facial features; facial features not computer enhanced)
Showing left and right ears
Taken in full-face view directly facing the camera
With neutral facial expression , and both eyes open
With handwritten (not computer-generated) name tag legibly showing signature over printed full name which includes: given name, middle initial (if any), last name, and extension name (if any)
Original and photocopy of any valid ID (see list of acceptable ID cards below)
Duly accomplished Certificate of Consent (attached as Annex A)
Original and photocopy of Birth Certificate issued by the PSA or the Local Civil Registry (only for applicants without date of birth in their ID cards)
Original and photocopy of Identification Certificate issued by the Bureau of Immigration (only for applicants holding dual citizenship under R.A. 9225; and applicants recognized as citizens of the Philippines under Section 1, Article IV of the 1987 Philippine Constitution

Go to the Civil Service Commission Regional Office or CSC Field Office near you to file for the Career Service exam. The List of CSC Offices and Branches are listed on the link below. File early and avoid the deadline.

Civil Service Exam Testing Centers

Applicants for the Career Service exam must communicate with the CSC Regional Office or CSC Field Office where they intent to take their examination. The updated lists are posted at the official website of the Civil Service Commission.

How to Check Your School Assignment for the Civil Service Exam?

The Civil Service Commission launched an online platform to assist and serve applicants of the Civil Service exam for the places where they will take their examination. Applicants can check their school assignments through the Online Notice of School Assignment (ONSA) at the CSC website approximately two weeks before their examination date.

Examinees may opt to have a print out of their Notice of School Assignment using online for their personal use. If applicants cannot access their ONSA one week before their exam date, they are advised to inquire directly with their CSC Regional or Field Office.

It is also recommended to conduct an ocular visit of their testing venue or room assignments before their exam date to familiarized themselves with the location and route of the school.

Things to bring when taking the Civil Service Exam:

ID Card – preferable the same ID card presented when you filed your application. Alternately, you may present any of the acceptable ID cards for the civil service exam (IDs must be valid and not expired).
Health Declaration Form (pre-accomplished not earlier than one day or within 24 hours before the exam day; your temperature will be supplied upon going through thermal scanner on your exam day)
Vaccination Card (for fully vaccinated applicants)
Negative RT-PCR / Saliva or Antigen Test Result( for partially vaccinated and unvaccinated applicants)
Certificate of Consent (only if not submitted during filing of application)
Black ball pens
Personal hand sanitizer or alcohol (not more than 100 ml)

Technically, yes, you are exempted in taking the CSE as all other board/bar passers and honor graduates. But may I recommend that you take the CSE, too, to have a better chance of landing a job in the govt. They normally, in my experience, don’t consider much the professional license issued by PRC when the position applied for is not related to the academic background and nature of license. When you have the CSE, though, there is a better chance of being considered even on positions not your direct forte.

For the Professional Level, it takes 3 hours and 10 minutes. For the Sub-professional Level, it takes 2 hours and 40 minutes.

Hai Miss Donna, as far as I know, you don’t need to apply or take the exam anymore since you already have your license as a teacher, it qualifies you already to work in government as a teacher. However, if you take and pass the CSC exam, you may use it for future purposes such as being a candidate for a higher position or for ranking . And if you will apply abroad, you can also use it as an edge from the other candidates for your desired position.

I have already passed the CS Professional Exam last October 26, 2014. By the way, thanks for your reviewer, I have some questions though.:

1. Can you still take the SubProfessional Exam even after you have passed the Professional Exam, or are you already barred from taking the SubPro exam if you passed the Prof exam?

2. Can I apply for a sub professional position notwithsanding my eligibility?

Hi. nagreserve ako ng slot for computer test through comex. the personal appearance and exam is scheduled for next week. According to the email I got from them, the only requirement needed is ID. pero yung ID ko lang is School ID withouth birthdate listed. So, pwede bang Certificate of Live Birth yung dalhin instead of NSO birth certificate (nawawala kasi, kukuha pa lang ako baka hindi ko makuha before the date of my exam). Thanks!

Go to the CSC and bring your valid IDs and 2 photos with name plate and signature when claiming your certificate. You can claim it even if you lost the receipt, just make sure you have valid IDs.

Is there a big difference between the Sub-Pro exam and the Pro exam?

Yes the Computer Assisted Exam is always held at the main office. Maybe in teh future they will add more testing centers for the computerized exam. Better apply personally for the exam po before the deadline

Computer Assisted exam is usually once or twice a year and it’s held in Manila. If you passed the CSC Prof, you don’t need to take Paper and Pencil Test again for Prof. again

1 Overview

This course is an awesome course. It’s the next course for you, and you’re incredibly excited about it. So are we!

Yes, we can be more specific.

In 101, you learned the fundamentals of programming. In particular, you worked hard and created a sequence of programs of increasing difficulty. What’s next?

In order to create the programs that you want to create, you need to be able to apply these programming skills to your particular problem domains. Computer Scientists like to make a lot of noise about algorithms, but most of the time, the place where the rubber hits the road is in the design and selection of data structures . That’s what this course is about!

1.1 Can you give me more detail?

We sure can!

Let’s consider some examples. Suppose you’re designing a program to save the world by tracking patterns of educational success, and the correlation between geographic area and academic achievement. In order to do this, your first core task is to figure out how you’re going to represent this data.

Choice number one: A huge long string. This would be a terrible choice; processing English text is notoriously error-prone, and we have whole courses (cf. Natural Language Processing) devoted entirely to extracting shreds of meaning from the gibble-gabble that humans generate when they communicate.

Choice number two: a list of people, where each person is a structure containing a name, a location, and the score on the SAT. This is a lot better, but might be very inefficient; for instance, isolating the mean SAT score in a community would require scanning the whole list of three hundred million people.

Choice number three: a hash table mapping zip codes to lists of people. This would probably be pretty good... except in situations where an educational community doesn’t align well with zip code boundaries.

Choice number four: a geographic tree, where each tree split corresponds to a bisection of a geographic aread. This also has advantages and disadvantages.

As you can see, the list is long, and the choices you make will influence nearly every aspect of later development. The history of software is rife with examples of poor data structure choices leading to much developer pain and suffering or simply to product collapse.

1.2 Do you have a Hidden Agenda?

Yes! We do!

The single largest problem in software development is that of managing complexity. Put differently, the central problem is scale .

It’s not hard to write twenty-line programs; you fiddle around until it works. When you get up to 200-line programs, some of the things that worked in the small don’t work any more. When you get up to 2,000-line programs (and believe me, you’ll be there very very soon), many of the things that worked for smaller programs fail again. Scaling up is extremely difficult. In fact, this is the central skill that separates programmers from engineers that program: programmers know how to design programs in a way that will be robust at 20, 200, or 200,000 lines of code.

In this course, We’ll be teaching you a “Design Recipe.” This design recipe will provide specific numbered steps involved in developing a program. Following these steps will guide you toward solutions that are correct, and solutions that scale well.

1.2.1 But what about my creativity?

You might worry that following a design recipe will stifle your creativity.

Don’t.

In essence, the design recipe is all about preventing you from struggling with the easy problems, so that you can get more quickly to the difficult problems. To see this, consider training a painter. Do you want to spend your first ten weeks trying to figure out which end of the paintbrush to apply to the canvas? You do not. In a similar way, the purpose of the design recipe is to enable you to program fluently, in order to get you more quickly to challenging problems.

5 Lecture Classroom

I think that an interactive and lively classroom is a better learning environment. In particular, I will almost certainly learn everyone’s name, and I’m likely to notice if you’re missing. My experience is that if you come to class reliably, you’re extremely likely to pass the class—there’s a reason that we conduct classes face-to-face; it keeps you engaged, and ensures that you’re connected to the other students in the class.

In addition, I’m likely to call on you, in places during the lecture where I want to see if you’re following what’s going on. If you don’t know, it’s totally fine to say "no, I have no idea." In particular, this is probably evidence that I’m going too fast or not explaining things well. However, I try to respect the wishes of students for whom this technique is disruptive. Please let me know if you don’t want me to call on you.

Finally, my experience standing in front of classes and more especially my experience of sitting behind classes has convinced me that laptops are useful for note-taking in approximately 1% of cases. Essentially, never.

Indeed, there’s now a mountain of evidence indicating that laptops are distracting to students and to those around them, and that even when these distractions are eliminated, taking notes on laptops fails to create learning in effective ways. I’ll just cite this one paper, because it’s got copious references to other sources.

Mueller, Pam A., and Daniel M. Oppenheimer. "The pen is mightier than the keyboard: Advantages of longhand over laptop note taking." Psychological science 25.6 (2014): 1159-1168.

For this reason, I do not allow the use of laptops in class without special dispensation. If you need to use a laptop to take notes, please come and talk to me; otherwise, just put it away and take notes on paper.

6 Computing Environment

You will be required to complete the assignments in this class using Python 3.10. It is freely available for all major platforms, including Mac OS, Windows, and UNIX.

We do not require you to use a particular IDE (Integrated Development Environment), but we invite you to use PyCharm, and promise to do our best to support users that use it.

6.1 Handin Server

This class will be using GitHub Classroom. That means that for each assignment, you’ll be clicking on an invitation link in order to create a fresh private repository for your assignment. You’ll do your work in that repository, and as you’re working on the assignment, the handin server will be periodically checking your work. This means that you’ll probably get lots of e-mails indicating that your project isn’t working yet; don’t worry about this. The only score that matters is your final score.

I would also be remiss if I didn’t say right up front that this system is still under development; I can pretty much guarantee that there will be problems. On the other hand, I’m extremely confident that github won’t lose your code; if you push your changes up to github, they should stay there.

8 Communication

This class will use EdStem . This will be the principal means that I’ll use to notify you of deadlines, organizational updates, and changes to assignments. If you’re not keeping up with the group, you’re going to be missing important information.

It’s also the best way for you to direct questions to me and/or the class. Feel free to e-mail me with personal questions, but use the EdStem group as your main means of communication. It’s possible to post anonymously, if you like.

You should already have received an invitation to the EdStem group; let me know if you need an invite.

Don’t post your code or test cases to the group; anything else is fair game.

Also, please keep in mind that I (and everyone else) judge you based in part on your written communication. Spelling, complete sentences, and evidence of forethought are important in all of your posts & e-mails. One easy rule of thumb: just read over what you’ve written before clicking post or send, and imagine others in the class reading it.

9 Labs

Labs in this course take the form of simple exercises to be completed in a week during lab periods, designed to help you understand the lecture material and to lead you toward solutions for the larger assignments.

Some instructors will be checking these labs off during lab. Others will simply ask you to submit them to the handin server. Talk to your instructor to find out what’s happening in your class.

The labs will be due at the end of your lab period on the day specified, typically Monday.

In labs, you are heartily encouraged to collaborate like crazy. Look at everyone else’s code, copy and paste, type on your neighbor’s keyboard, whatever. Labs need not be entirely your own work.

10 Assignments

Programming assignments will be due at 11:00 PM.

11 Grading Code

Different instructors will be grading code differently. Talk to your instructor to see what standards she or he applies.

12 Quizzes and Exams

The frequency of quizzes will depend on your individual instructor.

There will be two midterms and a final exam in the course. The midterms will be during the lecture period in the fourth and seventh week of class. The quizzes and exams will be closed-note. No electronic devices, including calculators, phones, or mp3 players, will be permitted during the quizzes or exams.

13 Grades

Grades will be determined by performance on programming projects, the exams, and class interaction. A small fraction of the grade is determined by the labs, and by the instructor’s whim. The breakdown of the grade is as follows:

Assignments : 30%

Quizzes : 14%

Midterm : 14%

Final : 27%

14 Supplemental, Clements only

For each of the first two labs, I will be randomly assigning you to work with a lab partner. (Not the same one; I roll the dice twice.) After the second one, we may decide to go with lab partners for the rest of the course... or we may just give up. We’ll see.

14.2 Assignment Grading

I will be grading your code repeatedly in this class. On most assignments, your score will consist of a part (usually 20 points) based on your performance on a set of test cases automatically administered by the handin server, and a part (usually 6 points) based on my opinion of your code’s clarity, organization, and adherence to rules about purpose statements and contracts/types (in short: you’ve got to have them). As a rule, my "eyeball" score rubric runs something like this:

6 points – Your code displays unusual clarity or elegance, with no problems of consequence.

5 points – some inelegant parts, or one or two purpose statements or contracts/types missing

4 points – an actual misunderstanding, or a widespread lack of purpose statements and contracts/types

3 points – a serious misunderstanding–you didn’t understand some major part of the assignment, or I had to work to try to get your code to compile or run without looping

2 points – your program is seriously incomplete, doesn’t compile, or has widespread major problems

1 point – you didn’t make any apparent progress on the program at all.

Finally, please note that I will place comments in some of your submissions indicating errors or stylistic requests. These will all begin with the string ;;> (in Racket) or ##> (in Python), so you can search for these in the e-mail that you get with your final assignment grade.

14.3 Code Organization

Here’s the most important thing to know about code in this class: I do actually read it. That means that— like most code you’ll write in industry— it neads to be readable and clear. If your code isn’t predictable and understandable, it will be ripped out and replaced, probably by someone who’s grumpy.

This means that getting your code to work is not the end of the process; after you get your code to work, you have to clean it up, put nice headers on the various parts, collect the test cases, document strange things that you did, and clarify the code.

You should begin with a single-paragraph comment that describes how far you got: did you finish, or did you get stuck on something? If you got stuck, describe what’s done and what’s still left to implement.

As a rule, I like to read code in a "top-down" way. This means that the definition of the top-level, important functions should come first, and the supporting functions should come later. I want to have a good understanding of the big picture before getting into the details. My experience is that if interp makes sense, then add-to-env will probably not present any difficulty.

Another part of cleaning up the code is collecting the test cases in a place that’s sensible and doesn’t interrupt the flow of reading the code. It’s probably best–after you’re done writing the code–to collect the test cases at the bottom of the file (or put them in another file altogether, if appropriate).

Whatever language you use, it’s likely to have a style guide. Here’s the one for Racket . You’re not required to follow any style guide, but anything that makes your code hard to read could hurt your score.

Finally: dead code is misleading and makes code hard to read. Delete it.

14.4 "But it Works!"

I reserve the right to assign bad scores to programs that work correctly; if I don’t think you’re doing a good job of programming, then you won’t receive a good score. "It works" isn’t a defense for bad code.

14.5 Grading Time Limit

Good code is easy to read. I reserve the right to allocate a fixed period of time to grading a program submission. Don’t be surprised to see comments like "ran out of grading time here."

Naturally, all grades contain an element of subjectivity.

14.6 Quizzes

My experience suggests that frequent quizzes are a good way to ensure that you’re understanding what I’m teaching, and that I’m teaching things that you understand. You don’t like taking them, and I don’t like grading them, but they do actually seem to help quite a bit.

This class will have quizzes in weeks 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 8. These quizzes will probably be fifteen minutes long, and will probably take place during lab.

14.7 Assignments

Your last GitHub “push” before the assignment deadline will be graded as your submission.

From time to time, we may examine student code, in lecture. Try to ensure that the code you submit is something you’d be proud to show to the others in the class.

ROOM ASSIGNMENTS: March 2024 Civil Service Exam – Professional & Subprofessional Levels

The Online Notice of School Assignment (ONSA) is a documentation or notice that specifies the testing venue or school assignment of an examinee who is scheduled to take the Civil Service Examination.

Our website has compiled an organized list of all the room assignments for all the registered CSE-PPT examinees in all regions who will take the upcoming exam nationwide (check the table below). Meanwhile, examinees can also access their individual ONSA through the official website of the Civil Service Commission (CSC). It is important for examinees to check their assigned testing venue and be present on the examination day to avoid any inconvenience or issues.

Please be reminded that ONSA is released a few weeks before the scheduled examination date. It contains information such as the name of the examinee, the school or venue where the exam will be held, and the room number and seat number assigned to the examinee.

Testing Centers/School Assignments

Examinees’ testing venue or school assignment for the August 2023 CSE-PPT for Professional and SubProfessional levels may be generated using ONSA or the Online Notice of School Assignment. The CSC Regional Offices (ROs) though may also initiate/utilize individual approaches in disseminating information on school assignments of their respective examinees. Examinees may check the availability of ONSA, through the CSC Website at www.csc.gov.ph, a week before the exam.

To use ONSA, examinees should encode/fill in the required data in the corresponding data fields accurately, following the indicated format. Examinees may opt to have a print-out of their Notice of School Assignment using ONSA for their personal reference, but, this is not mandatory and is not a requirement.

If examinees cannot access the ONSA and/or still do not know their school assignment one week before the examination day, they should INQUIRE DIRECTLY with the CSC Regional/Field Office concerned. A complete directory of CSC regional/field offices nationwide is available at the CSC Website.

Important Reminders

1. Wearing of FACE MASKS shall be OPTIONALNOLUNTARY. However, as a matter of prerogative, there may be CSC Regional Offices that may require the wearing of face masks. On the other hand, the following individuals are still recommended1 to wear face mask: (i) elderly; (ii) individuals with comorbidities; (iii) immunocompromised individuals; (iv) pregnant women; (v) unvaccinated individuals; and (vi) symptomatic individuals.

2. NO I.D. CARD/DOCUMENT, NO EXAM.

3. Be at the testing venue not later than 6:30 a.m., or as required by the CSC Regional/Field Offices concerned.

4. GATES OF TESTING VENUES SHALL BE CLOSED TO EXAMINEES AT EXACTLY 7:45 A.M. Examinees who arrive later than 7:45 a.m. shall NOT be admitted to take the exam.

5. If feasible, VISIT AND CONDUCT AN OCULAR INSPECTION of the assigned school/testing venue at least one day before the examination day to be familiar with the school location and its route/direction, the available means of public transport, and the time and motion requirement of travelling from point of origin to the school/testing venue. DO NOT SOLELY RELY ON GPS NAVIGATION/ROUTE/DIRECTION APP TO LEAD YOU TO YOUR TESTING VENUE ON EXAMINATION DAY

6. Wear proper attire on examination day, preferably plain white shirt/tops. Examinees wearing SLEEVELESS SHIRT/BLOUSE, SHORTS/SHORT PANTS, TOKONG PANTS, RIPPED JEANS, and SLIPPERS will NOT be ALLOWED to enter the exam venue. Also, long hair must be tied.

7. Bringing of cellular phones, including smart phones/watches and pens/eyeglasses with built-in camera, and any other gadgets/electronic devices, including those that may facilitate video/audio recording of any test material/form, or part/portion/phase of the conduct of the exam, and all other similar items, IN EXAMINEE’S SEAT IS NOT ALLOWED. Prior to occupying the assigned seat, examinees shall be required to deposit said items and all other personal belongings in the designated area. Examinees are encouraged to use transparent bag.

8. Use of any aid in answering the test (such as calculators; watch calculators; tablets; books, dictionaries and other forms of printed materials; and any other similar materials/items/gadgets) is NOT allowed.

9. Bringing of the test booklet outside of the testing room/venue is strictly prohibited. The examination or test results of those found violating this rule shall be cancelled.

Examinees’ Guide

A link to the Examinee’s Guide in Taking CSE-PPT is also available through the ONSA. Examinees are strongly advised to access this link, read thoroughly, and understand fully the examinee’s guide to be familiar with the examination process.

Serving as the orientation/briefing material of examinees, the Examinee’s Guide contains comprehensive information on the conduct of the examination to include guidelines and procedures to be observed before and during exam day,among other concerns.

The Examinee’s Guide is intended for the exclusive use of examinees. Thus, examinees are advised NOT to re-distribute their copy of the guide on their Facebook Page, or any other communication platforms.

Things to Bring on Exam Day

1. I.D. CARD (Original) – preferably the same I.D. card presented during the filing of exam application. In case of loss or unavailability, the examinee must present any of the other accepted I.D. cards for civil service exam (see Annex A), which is preferably valid, i.e., not expired on exam day.

Photocopy only of I.D. card, or cellphone photo of I.D., shall not be accepted.
All other I.D. cards not included in the list of accepted I.D. cards/documents for civil service exam shall not be accepted.
As a last resort, expired I.D. card may be presented for admission on examination day, provided that, the expiry date of the I. D card is within the preceding months of the year reckoning the date of examination (or from 01 January 2023 to 25 March 2023).
If I.D. card has no date of birth, examinees should also bring their original Birth Certificate issued by the Philippine Statistics Authority, or the Local Civil Registry.

3. BLACK BALL PEN/s

Examinees must bring their own ball pen/s.
Borrowing of ball pen/s shall not be allowed to prevent cross-contamination.
Only black ball pen shall be used in the examination.
Pencils and any other kinds of pen such as gel pen, sign pen, fountain pen, friction pen, etc. including other colors of ball pen are not allowed.

Also, examinees may opt to bring water in clear/transparent container, and/or candies/biscuits, which shall be inspected by the Room Examiner/Proctor. However, drinking/eating may only be done outside the testing room, one at a time, and only upon the approval of the Room Examiner. Hence, water containers should be placed inside examinees’ bag and brought out only when drinking/eating.

Examination Coverage

The following topics were covered in the March 2023 CSE-PPT for both Professional and Subprofessional levels:

1. Professional Level – In English and Filipino

Numerical Ability (Basic Operations; Word Problems)
Analytical Ability (Word Association – identifying assumptions and conclusions; Logic; Data Interpretation)
Verbal Ability (Grammar and Correct Usage; Vocabulary; Paragraph Organization; Reading Comprehension)

2. Subprofessional Level – In English and Filipino

Clerical Ability (Filing; Spelling)

The general information items on the following: Philippine Constitution; Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees (R.A. 6713); Peace and Human Rights Issues and Concepts; and Environment Management and Protection are also included for both professional and sub-professional exams. Number of Items

For Professional level, 170 items in a 3 hours and 10 minutes time will be given
For Sub-Professional level, 165 items in a 2 hours and 40 minutes time

The applicant is advised by the Commission to come at the examination center one hour before the test proper.

Passing Score

To pass the examination, the examinee must get an overall score of 80.00%.

Release of Results

The Civil Service Commission (CSC) is releasing the official list of passers for all regions in the March 2024 Civil Service Exam Exam (CSC-PPT) within 60 days after the exams.

CSC advised examinees to directly coordinate with the CSC Regional Office for other concerns like verification of examinee number and further examination result-related matters.

Civil Service Eligibility

Career Service Professional Eligibility is the second appropriate level for first- and second-level government positions that do not involve the practice of the profession and are not covered by other laws.

Meanwhile, Sub-Professional Eligibility is only appropriate for first-level government positions that do not involve the practice of the profession and are not covered by other laws.

The CSE-PPT examination aims to establish a Register of Eligibles (RoE) from which certification and appointment to first and second-level positions in the civil service, except those involving the practice of the profession and are covered by special laws, shall be made, provided the eligibles meet the qualifications and other requirements of the positions.
