Most of the apps out there allow you to download them for free, and provide at least some free services–such as a couple of free questions and answers. Additional services or subscriptions are then charged as in-app purchases. When it comes to in-app purchases and subscriptions for homework help, the prices vary depending on the amount of services you want to subscribe to. Subscriptions can cost anywhere from $2 to around $60 dollars per month, with the most expensive app subscriptions including some tutoring (which is usually only available through homework help websites.)

The Khan Academy app works like the website, and offers the same services. It’s full of information and can be personalized to suit your educational needs. 

After you download the app, you choose which courses you need to study, and Khan Academy sets up a personal dashboard of instructional videos, practice exercises, and quizzes –with both correct and incorrect answer explanations–so you can learn at your own pace. 

As an added bonus, it covers more course topics than many other homework help apps, including several AP classes.

Best Paid Homework Help App: Brainly

• Price: $18 for a 6 month subscription, $24 for a year 
• Best for: 24/7 homework assistance 

Brainly is free to download and allows you to type in questions (or snap a pic) and get answers and explanations from both fellow students and teachers. Plus, subject matter experts and moderators verify answers daily, so you know you’re getting quality solutions! The downside is that you’re limited to two free answers per question and have to watch ads for more if you don’t pay for a subscription. 

That said, their subscription fees average around only $2 per month, making this a particularly affordable option if you’re looking for homework help on a budget. Brainly subscriptions not only cover unlimited answers and explanations on a wide variety of school subjects (including Art and World Languages which aren’t always included in other apps), they also provide tutoring in Math and Physics!

Best App for Math Homework Help: Photomath

• Price: Free (or up to $59.99 per year for premium services) 
• Best for: Explaining solutions to math problems

This app allows you to take a picture of a math problem, and instantly pulls up a step-by-step solution, as well as a detailed explanation of the concept. Photomath subscription services also include animated videos that break down mathematical concepts–all the way up to advanced Calculus!--to help you better understand and remember them. 

The basic textbook solution service is free, but for an additional fee you can get extra study tools, access to one-on-one tutoring, and additional strategies for solving common math problems.

Best App for STEM and English Homework Help: Studypool

• Price: Varies; you’ll pay for each question you submit
• Best for: Science and English homework help in one app

When it comes to apps for science and English homework help, there aren’t lots of great resources out there, much less out there all in one place. While Grammarly is a good service for proofreading, SparkNotes has some decent summaries, and Khan Academy covers science, the best of the bunch if you need help with both subjects Studypool. Instead of using lots of different apps for STEM and English help, they’re combined together here! But while Studypool has great reviews, there are some downsides as well. 

The Studypool Q&A model is a little different than other homework help apps. After you create a free account, you ask questions, and tutors submit bids to answer them. You’ll be able to select the tutor–and price point–that works for you, then you’ll pay to have your homework question answered. You can also pay a small fee to access thousands of notes, lectures, and other documents that top tutors have uploaded.  

The downside to Studypool is that the pricing is not transparent . There’s no way to plan for how much your homework help will cost, especially if you have lots of questions! It’s also not clear how they choose their tutors, so you’ll need to be careful when you decide who you’d like to answer your homework questions. That said, if you only need a few questions answered per month, this could be cheaper than other monthly subscription services.

Best Homework Scheduling App: MyStudyLife

• Best for: Keeping track of your schedule and deadlines

If the reason you’re looking for homework help is less about finding answers to questions and more about needing assistance with organization and time-management , MyStudyLife is a great option. This is a cross-platform planner that allows you to store your class schedule, upcoming tests, and homework assignments in the cloud so you can access it all wherever you are, and on any device.

Just keep in mind that if you want better grades you have to actually learn the material you’re studying, not just find easy answers. So be sure to use apps that provide good explanations . It’s hard to beat homework help that you can access anywhere you are from your mobile device. You can also get assistance whenever you need it since the best apps offer their services 24/7. While having tons of information at your fingertips can be helpful, the sheer amount and variety of videos, tutorials, expert answers, and resources a homework app provides can be overwhelming . The point of practicing concepts and skills is so you develop them and can access them whenever you need to. This is especially true if skills build on one another, like in a math or English class. 

Sometimes s truggling with an assignment or question, trying, failing, then trying again until you succeed can help you learn difficult material. If you don’t let yourself really try, and instead take too many shortcuts, you may end up behind.

When Does “Help” Become “Cheating”?

When it comes to using homework help apps, sometimes the difference between “help” and “cheating” is really clear. For example, if you’re using an app to get answers while you’re taking a test, that’s definitely cheating . But what if you’re struggling with a math problem and need to know the correct answer so you can work backwards to learn the process? Is that “cheating” or is it “help?” 

The truth is, not everyone agrees on when “help” crosses the line into “cheating .” If you’re not sure, you can always check with your teacher to see what they think about a particular type of help you want to get. That said, a general rule of thumb to keep in mind is to make sure that the assignment you turn in for credit is authentically yours . It needs to demonstrate your own thoughts and your own current abilities. Remember: the point of every homework assignment is to 1) help you learn something, and 2) show what you’ve learned. 

So if you’re relying on an app to do all of the work for you, there’s a good chance using it might constitute cheating. 

Think of it this way: say you’re studying for an upcoming math test, and are stumped by a few of the questions on the study guide. Even though you’ve tried and tried, you can’t seem to get the right answer because you can’t remember the steps to take. Using an app to explain the steps as you’re studying is “help.” Using the app to get answers so you can make a good homework grade is “cheating.”

Having someone read it and give you feedback about what you need to change is also “help,” provided you’re the one that makes the changes later. 

But copying all or part of an essay you find online or having someone write (or rewrite) the whole thing for you would be “cheating.” Ultimately, if you’re not generating your own work or learning to produce your own answers, it’s probably cheating.

Getting started with DirectML on Copilot+ PCs

System requirements.

Ensure you have the correct versions of DirectML, ONNX Runtime (ORT), Windows and the minimum versioned Qualcomm® Hexagon NPU driver.

• DirectML minimum version of 1.15.2 (ARM64)
• ONNX Runtime minimum version of 1.18 (ARM64)
• Windows 11, version 24H2 or newer
• Qualcomm® Hexagon NPU Driver minimum version 30.0.31.250 or newer (instruction below)

Developer-environment set-up on your Copilot+ PC

Let’s walk through how you can utilize DirectML and ONNX Runtime to leverage a set of models on the Copilot+ PC powered by Qualcomm® Hexagon NPU. First, you need to ensure you have the latest Qualcomm® Hexagon NPU driver package. Setting up a Qualcomm dev account is your very first step:

• Create an account at https://qpm.qualcomm.com/

Now, log in with your account credentials and click the following link: Qualcomm Package Manager 3 and download the latest driver available. Then, follow the steps below to download the Qualcomm® Hexagon NPU Driver Package for Windows:

• Change OS from “Windows” to “Windows (ARM64)”
• Click Download ( latest driver version available )
• Extract QHND.Core.1.0.0.9.Windows-ARM64.zip
• Run PreAlpha_QCHexagon_NPU_Driver installer

DirectML is rapidly expanding, and we are simplifying how developers can utilize the various local accelerators, hardware variations and frameworks across Windows. There are constraints with what is available today and they are highlighted below:

• C++ Developers need to depend on DirectML 1.15.2 as a redistributable package within their app (reference the sample above).
• NPU selection through the Python API for ONNX Runtime is not available currently but is coming soon!
• Developers will experience error code DXGI_ERROR_UNSUPPORTED (0x887A0004) stating “The specified device interface or feature level is not supported on this system” when attempting to use models outside of supported models .
• For testing any models outside of our supported list, developers may enable windows developer mode (settings/systems/for developers). Models that are run in this mode may have undefined behavior.

We are excited for this initial release and the continued expansion of DirectML on Copilot+ PCs. Stay tuned for more capabilities and announcements as we continue our investment in this space.

DirectML unlocks NPUs for web-based machine learning with WebNN NPU Developer Preview

At Build, we launched the WebNN Developer Preview across Windows GPUs, and showcased initial support for NPUs, powered by DirectML. We are excited to announce that web developers can now leverage the power of NPUs on Windows devices with the latest release of DirectML and WebNN Developer Preview. This release enables support for an initial set of models on Intel® Core™ Ultra processors with Intel® AI Boost and the Copilot+ PC, powered by Qualcomm® Hexagon™ NPUs that you can try out today on the WebNN Developer Preview website.

WebNN is an emerging web standard that defines how to run machine learning models in the browser and offers new possibilities for bringing AI innovations to the web. It defines how to interface with hardware acceleration APIs such as DirectML, enabling web sites to leverage the GPU or NPU on a user’s PC to run AI locally. DirectML, a key foundational component of the Windows Copilot Runtime , uniquely simplifies how developers can scale their AI innovations, through a single, cross-hardware DirectX API that provides a secure, consistent, performant experience across different hardware architectures. WebNN also supports integration with machine learning frameworks, like ONNX Runtime Web (ORT Web), which is part of the ONNX Runtime project. ORT Web is a JavaScript library that enables you to run ONNX models in the web browser and extends the Execution Provider (EP) framework to include WebNN as an EP.

Enabling DirectML across NPUs with WebNN is only possible with the support and close collaboration of hardware partners like Intel. Intel Fellow, Moh Haghighat, remarked: “Intel is excited that WebNN and DirectML can now provide countless web developers the ability to harness the power and efficiency of Intel’s NPU for creating and executing innovative machine learning features in web applications on AI PCs. We eagerly look forward to the new possibilities that WebNN and DirectML bring to web developers and the web users around the world who will benefit from faster, smarter, and more engaging web applications.”

This is just the beginning of our journey to enable AI on the web with WebNN and DirectML. Stay tuned for upcoming releases that will include more functionality and broader model coverage, including generative AI models.

Get started with the WebNN Developer Preview

With the WebNN Developer Preview, powered by DirectML and ORT Web, you can run ONNX models in the browser with hardware acceleration and minimal code changes.

To get started with WebNN on DirectML compatible devices you will need:

• Window 11, version 24H2 or newer
• Insider version of Edge (exact instructions provided below)
• Intel® Core™ Ultra NPU Driver for Windows
• Qualcomm® Hexagon NPU Driver Package for windows (see instruction set above)

Now that you have the latest NPU driver installed, here are the exact steps required to sample models with the WebNN framework.

Enabling Insider version of Edge for WebNN Dev Preview

• Download from https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/edge/download/insider
• Run installer
• Navigate to about://flags
• Search for “Enables WebNN API” and change it to “Enabled”
• Exit browser
• Download DirectML from https://www.nuget.org/packages/Microsoft.AI.DirectML/1.15.2
• Rename microsoft.ai.directml.1.15.2.nupkg to microsoft.ai.directml.1.15.2.nupkg.zip and extract it
• When the dialog asks for Administrator permission, choose “Continue”
• Edge Canary: “%LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Edge SxS\Application\129.0.2779.0\”
• The version-specific directory (129.0.2779.0) may differ on your machine
• New versions of Edge may require directml.dll to be recopied to the directory
• If using Edge Dev: “C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge Dev\Application”
• If using Edge Canary: “%LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Edge SxS\Application”
• .\msedge.exe –use-redist-dml –disable_webnn_for_npu=0 –disable-gpu-sandbox

Now, you can run samples with the WebNN Framework by navigating to aka.ms/webnn and choosing either Image Classification or Whisper Base samples (and don’t forget to click the ‘npu’ button) or by directly linking here:

MobilNetV2 NPU Selected / ResNet50 NPU Selected / EfficientNetV4 NPU Selected / Whisper Base NPU Selected

Note, model start up times may be >1 minute; NPUs are in a rapid optimization stage so compile times will improve as we move WebNN to production trials. For more instructions and information about supported models and operators, please visit our documentation .

Gradual rollout

These might not be available to all users because they will roll out gradually.

[Widgets Board] We are rolling out an update to the Widgets Board to improve security and the APIs for creating widgets and feeds for users in EEA regions. As part of this update, the Microsoft Start Experiences app will power the Microsoft Start widget and feed experiences. Also, as part of this update, some existing widgets will be removed and others will be modified, temporarily affecting their functionality. This update sets the foundation for new widgets and other features in development, set to roll out soon.​​​​​​​

[Windows Share] New! You can now share content to your Android device from the Windows Share window. To do this, you must pair your Android device to your Windows PC. Use the Link to Windows app on your Android device and Phone Link on your PC.

When you press Windows logo key + E, a screen reader might say a pane has focus, or the focus might not be set at all.

When you press Ctrl + F, sometimes the search does not start.

Keyboard focus sometimes might get lost when you press Shift + Tab.

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​ [Narrator] This update makes scan mode respond quicker. This is especially helpful when you use Microsoft Edge and read large documents. To use scan mode, you must turn on Narrator first (Windows logo key + Ctrl + Enter). Then, turn on scan mode by pressing Caps lock + Spacebar during a Narrator session.

Improvements

This non-security update includes quality improvements. Below is a summary of the key issues that this update addresses when you install this KB. If there are new features, it lists them as well. The bold text within the brackets indicates the item or area of the change we are documenting.

[FrameShutdownDelay] The browser ignores its value in the “HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main” registry key.

[Domain Name System (DNS)] A deadlock occurs in the domain controller (DC) when it starts up in the DNS client.

[OpenSSH] This update adds a prompt that asks you to confirm when you turn on OpenSSH using the Server Manager UI.

[Unified Write Filter (UWF) and Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM)] An SCCM task to re-enable UWF fails because of a deadlock in UWF. This stops the device from restarting when you expect it.

[vmswitches] They fail to enumerate using Get-VMSwitch command. ​​​​​​​

If you installed earlier updates, only the new updates contained in this package will be downloaded and installed on your device.

Windows 11 servicing stack update (KB5042114) - 26100.1591

This update makes quality improvements to the servicing stack, which is the component that installs Windows updates. Servicing stack updates (SSU) ensure that you have a robust and reliable servicing stack so that your devices can receive and install Microsoft updates.

Install this update

To install this update, use one of the following Windows and Microsoft release channels.

If you want to remove the LCU

To remove the LCU after installing the combined SSU and LCU package, use the DISM/Remove-Package command line option with the LCU package name as the argument. You can find the package name by using this command: DISM /online /get-packages .

Running Windows Update Standalone Installer ( wusa.exe ) with the /uninstall switch on the combined package will not work because the combined package contains the SSU. You cannot remove the SSU from the system after installation.

A wonderful app

Very helpful app I was needing something to help me with my daughter’s homework my daughter is horrible on taking notes in school. And if I have notes to see the task I’m good at figuring it out how to do the rest so I tried this help because I couldn’t find anything online to help me. So when this can’t up I was like why not. And I was glad I did it tells u how to solve it. And I could figure out the rest by their help. The only thing I would like if they make another app or add on this this one for younger kids. I know a couple of parents that also need help with there kid’s homework (how to help there child I don’t do it for my kids do there homework but I have to explain it to them sometimes and for that I need to refresh my mind as will) and this is a great app for that just hope they for something god younger students grades 2nd to 5th graders would help parents a lot.

Great App / One Major Issue

I love this app. Its saved me multiple times on upcoming tests, and the great thing about it is it thoroughly goes through the topic step-by-step making sure you understand how the AI got to the solution. All that to be said, I really wish there was a feature to edit the text that was scanned in the picture. I think its already an intended design because theres text displayed saying if you’d made typos heres the time to fix it, but it doesn't work. Tapping on the screen doesn't do anything. You can copy and paste the text but theres no way to edit it where the users keyboard opens. This is a 10/10 if I could edit the prompt.

Great academic support

Solvo has truly been a remarkable discovery for me as a busy working mom. My son has been facing difficulties with certain subjects in school, and finding the time and energy to assist him with homework has been a challenge for me.
