Popular PDF editing and management app PDF Expert has been updated to add support for iOS 15.1 and SharePlay. The move means that people can present the contents of a PDF over FaceTime from anywhere in the world.

The update, which is available for download from the App Store now and was announced via blog post , means that it's easier than ever to show people what's on a PDF, no matter whether they're in the same room or on the other side of the world.

With PDF Expert, you don't need to rush to the desktop whenever you need to hold an online presentation. It now integrates with FaceTime, letting you effortlessly share your screen and draw on the slides together with others.

Presenting a document is as simple as opening it and then pressing a button to "Start Presenting." And that's it, you're done! The person receiving the SharePlay call doesn't need to be a PDF Expert Pro user either — anyone will be able to follow along.

Readdle PDF Expert brings redesign and dark mode to Mac, iPhone, and iPad

Readdle is out with a major update for its popular PDF Expert app on Mac , iPhone , and iPad . The latest release comes with an all-new design, dark mode for Mac, Smart OCR, Smart Enhance for scans, and more.

Readdle announced the release in a blog post today:

Enhance PDF Presentations with full-screen mode and page transitions

Full-screen mode allows you to set PDFs for Presentations, filling the entire screen and hiding Acrobat's menu bar, toolbar, and window controls.

You can establish consistent initial views for your documents or collections of documents.

Page transitions can be added to create visual effects as viewers navigate through the document.

Set initial view

When users open your PDF document or Portfolio, they see the initial view. You can s et the initial view to your desired magnification level, page, and layout.

In Acrobat Pro, Action wizards enable changing default settings for multiple documents.

To set the initial view:

• From the dialog, select the Initial View tab.
• Navigation tab - Determines which panels are displayed in the navigation pane.
• Page layout - Determines how the document pages are arranged.
• Magnification - Sets the zoom level for the document after it's opened. The default uses the magnification set by the user.
• Open to page - Specifies the page that appears when the document opens.
• Window Options - Determines how the window adjusts in the screen area when a user opens the document. These options apply to the document window itself in relationship to the screen area of the user’s monitor.
• Interface Options - Determines which parts of the interface—the menu bar, the toolbars, and the window controls—are hidden.
• Select Open in Full Screen mode  check box.
• For the Navigation tab, select Page Only .
• For Page layout, select Single Page .
• Set  Open to page  to the page where you want to start the presentation.
• Select Ok .
• Save and reopen the file to view the effects.

In full-screen mode, users can press the "Esc" key to exit if their preferences permit it. However, users can only execute commands or choose tools using keyboard shortcuts. To maintain functionality, consider setting up page actions within the document.

Two factors can alter page layout and magnification:

Selecting Default for the Magnification and Page Layout options will follow the user's settings in the Page Display preferences.

If you hide the menu bar and toolbars, users can only use commands or select tools with keyboard shortcuts. Consider creating page actions that temporarily conceal interface controls while the page is visible.  See Add actions with page thumbnails .

Add page transitions

You can create engaging effects when advancing pages by using page transitions.  Acrobat Pro's Actions wizard allows you to set page transitions for multiple documents.

From the All tools menu, select Organize pages > Page transitions .

Or select the desired page thumbnails in the Page thumbnails panel, then choose Page transitions from the Options menu.

In the Page   transitions dialog, pick a transition effect from the Transition menu. These effects are identical to the ones in the Full Screen preferences.

Select the direction and speed of the transition effect. Options vary based on the transition.

Select Auto Flip and enter the time interval in seconds for automatic page turning. If this option isn't selected, users must turn pages using keyboard commands or the mouse.

Specify the Page Range to which the transitions should apply.

If the 'Ignore All Transitions in the Full Screen' setting is enabled in Document preferences, users won't see the page transitions.  Acrobat also supports PowerPoint's page transitions and bullet fly-ins.

Use presenter mode in Pages on iPad

In a word-processing document, you can use presenter mode so that your text scrolls automatically like it’s on a teleprompter. The text appears in a large font against a dark background—without images or other media—so that it’s easy to read.

Note: Presenter mode displays body text only. You don’t see text in text boxes, shapes, captions, tables, headers, or other objects.

I’ve been holding off on recommending this PDF Expert as I was annoyed by its inability to properly access icloud storage. This has now been addressed. I find the package well laid out and easy to use with a short learning time. I particularly like the ability to record and store signatures which allows speedy dealing with large numbers of documents and forms that need filling in. The editing functions are comprehensive and easier to use than other packages that I have used in the past like GoodReader and Notetaker HD. I’ve found that, to be effective, I need to use the app in conjunction with PDF Converter (by the same company) to ensure compatibility of files. It would make sense to me to incorporate the pdf conversion function into PDF Expert rather than making it a two app/two step process.

BUYERS BEWARE OF ATTEMPTED SCAM ON SIGN-UP

Please everyone, read the whole comment: apologies for length. I have used PDF Expert for years - hands down the best PDF editor available. I paid for it before it was made free, so, usual story: somebody who paid for a program then had to put up with severely limited functionality because READDLE had discovered it could gouge more money from users by creating a two-tier free/premium structure. All the best features have for several years only been available to subscribers. The new free version is more basic. All that’s bad enough. However, earlier this year, PDF Expert (it’s on my iPad) stopped communicating with my DropBox account. I don’t know why. Anyway, I reinstalled, and have just tried to sign in again. Here’s the warning: there is a deliberate and deceptive attempt to fool you into signing on to the Premium version with a 1-week trial that automatically then flips you over to the extortionately priced subscription. I had to uninstall and reinstall twice before I realised what was going on. Make sure not to click continue at the point the Premium version appears on the screen. Instead, click the option that comes up to restore previous version. I’m sure the nice people will now say how sorry they are that I had this experience. However, this is a deliberate attempt at bait-and-switch. It’s an attempted con by professional scammers…sorry, innocent and well-intentioned online business.

Great App for Work

With the recent update, the app has become unusable. I use this daily for work and while typing into a pdf tillable form, it keeps refreshing or reloading every few seconds, sending me out of the fillable box and not filling what I have typed. I constantly have to restart my sentence only for the form to refresh again and restart the process. I have tried deleting and reinstalling the app a number of times but it has not resolved the problem. In addition, I have a premium subscription and even though I select the restore button under settings, my premium features are not restored. I now only have 4 out of the seven menu items I had previously. I hope you fix this fast or I will have to find another program since I cannot reliably use it in the current state.
