Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of time commitment does an AOEU course take?

The commitment can vary depending on your pace. We tell students they can expect 45 hours of contact time per credit. That includes interacting with your peers, researching, reading, and completing assignments. For example, a two-credit course will require around 90 hours over 8 weeks, or 11 hours per week. This includes online learning, interactions with peers, and reading/coursework completed outside of class.

Will these classes transfer to other institutions?

The Art of Education University cannot guarantee that credits will be accepted as transfer credits at other institutions. It is strongly advised to check with the degree-granting school, your state, and your district to verify that the credits will be accepted for license renewal, salary advancement, or use in a degree program.

How are courses graded?

All participants will be given a letter grade for our courses. This letter grade will be scored based on the rubrics and requirements found in the course syllabus. Morningside College and The Art of Education University follow a rigorous academic model to maintain the highest standards and rigor.

Course Lifecycle

Every course has a distinct yet uniform timeline, so you will know what you’re getting into no matter which class you take. This timeline is simple, direct, and easy to understand. It’s more Mondrian than Pollock.

Art Education (Post-Baccalaureate Certification)

The Post-Baccalaureate Certification in Art Education is available to candidates with an undergraduate B.F.A. degree in the visual arts or B.A. in a related field who have an  interest in teaching art in PreK-12 settings. As part of the application process, candidates must meet clearance requirements and have them on file prior to starting the program. For candidates already teaching art in private and charter schools and are required to earn PA certification, see the Art Education Intern Program.

The certification program culminates in a Pennsylvania Department of Education Level I certification in the visual arts. Students in art education have gone on to teach in public, private and charter schools, museums, and community settings. Information for prospective students who reside outside of Pennsylvania, or plan to relocate .

For full-time study, the program consists of three semesters of required courses that reflect current directions in art education and one semester of student teaching. In addition, candidates take EDU and SPU professional competencies common to all teacher certification programs. Most courses are taught in the evenings, weekends, summers, and online for maximum flexibility for those with busy schedules. See the suggested sequence of courses on the Post-Baccalaureate Certification Checksheet for Art Education .

While grounded in theory, the program focuses on contemporary practices in public schools and other educational settings. Students take coursework offered by professors who are nationally and internationally recognized artists, educators and scholars. During clinical semesters, students have opportunities to be mentored by experienced PreK-12 art teachers in local schools while being supervised by university professors.

Upon satisfactory completion of the program and filing paperwork with the PA Department of Education, students can apply for teaching jobs. Employers seek our graduates as potential colleagues because of KU’s long history and solid reputation for producing quality art teachers. By taking two more courses (both online), students can earn an M.Ed. in Art Education.

When you’re ready for a new career, choose wisely. Choose KU Art Ed.

Your major advisor and the Director of Education, who serves as a second advisor, will ensure that all required coursework is completed prior to student teaching.

Why Study Art Education at Rosemont?

Our Education program has a 100% job placement rate.  We give credit to our outstanding, committed faculty, who are all seasoned practitioners at local schools. They are genuinely invested in each student’s success, providing firsthand insight on how to not just land a job, but thrive as an educator at schools of all types. The Education department also offers networking opportunities, help with resume writing, and engagement in mock interviews with teachers and administrators who work at area schools.

Grow as an artist:  The on-campus Patricia M. Nugent Gallery is central to students’ artistic and professional development. Frequent exhibit openings bring accomplished artists to Rosemont, giving students opportunities to ask questions and grow their professional network. Plus, seniors in the Studio Art and Design program take part in their own gallery show. Our location in suburban Philadelphia is another fantastic resource. With renowned art museums, studios, and galleries throughout the city and suburbs, you’ll have ample chances to hone your craft while exploring the works of both emerging and legendary artists.

Thrive in a close-knit, supportive setting: Rosemont’s intentionally small class size allows our students to make deep connections to their peers and professors, helping you find your unique voice and expanding your worldview. Our intimate academic environment means that you’ll be an active participant in your learning: contributing to discussions, engaging with different viewpoints, and thinking critically about your own.

If you already hold a bachelor’s degree and want to pursue further studies in your area of specialization at the graduate level while becoming a certified teacher, Liberty University’s 100% online master’s degree in teaching can give you the necessary skills and knowledge you need to teach with excellence.

At Liberty, you’ll study online under industry-leading professionals with real-world teaching experience who provide personal examples and guidance for new teachers, as well as help for experienced teachers to hone their craft. And, like every graduate program offered by Liberty University’s School of Education, you’ll be learning from professors who teach from a biblical worldview and strive to encourage their students as engaged mentors.

Military Friendly School

An MAT Degree that Works for You

Through Liberty’s master’s in teaching online, you can complete your coursework  from the comfort of your home , gain hands-on experience with  flexible scheduling , and gain a foothold for employment with a local school district during your  student teaching . The online Master of Arts in Teaching offers a clear path for students seeking  teaching licensure  — and because it holds prestigious  CAEP accreditation , you can be confident your degree has met rigorous educational standards.

Specifics for Our Master’s in Teaching Online

Our teacher education programs are approved by the Virginia Department of Education and accredited under the  Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation ( CAEP )  accreditation system. Graduates of Liberty’s teacher licensure program are  eligible for licensure by the Commonwealth of Virginia  in the teacher candidate’s approved specialization, other states by reciprocal agreement, and Association of Christian Schools International.

After satisfying all course and core competency requirements, completing all practicums associated with the program, and passing the required Virginia assessments, you can be eligible for a Virginia teaching license in elementary, middle grades, secondary, or special education. Your teaching license can be used to teach in public, private, and charter schools in Virginia or in one of the states that have Virginia teacher reciprocity agreements.

Upon successful completion of Liberty University’s Virginia state-approved Master of Arts in Teaching program,  you may apply for your teaching license in another state  through reciprocity, which may or may not result in additional requirements based on your state’s Department of Education  regulations .

Check out the topics below to learn more about how Liberty’s master’s degree in teaching equips you for teacher certification.

Reciprocity

Our online MAT programs are designed to support state reciprocity. You can be confident that you are getting an excellent education recognized across the country.

After completing the Master of Arts in Teaching and receiving your endorsement for a Virginia license, you can complete the necessary steps for transferring your license to another state.

Practicums and Student Teaching

Practicums  allow you to learn alongside K-12 educators as you observe and integrate instructional strategies vital in today’s school system. These  field experiences  typically total at least  90 hours . Best of all, you can be in a setting that aligns with your program and licensure endorsement area!

Student teaching  is the course that defines your final semester as you demonstrate all that you’ve learned during the program. You will be placed in an accredited school, completing hours under the supervision of a licensed Cooperating Teacher.

You will be in the classroom all day, every day for a full semester, reflecting a full-time teacher’s schedule. Your experience will begin with observing and assisting the Cooperating Teacher and then gradually assuming primary responsibility of the classroom.

Your student teaching is a  full-time commitment  and is often viewed as a four-month interview for potential employment. As such, you should plan to minimize extra-curricular activity and/or other work commitments to focus on completing student teaching to your full potential. Prior classroom experience may not be used to fulfill your program’s student teaching requirement.

Content Competencies

The Master of Arts in Teaching is designed to equip you with the skills, methodologies, and practical experiences for becoming an effective teacher. Part of this educational journey is growing and excelling in the content you will be instructing in your own classroom! As part of your elementary, middle grades, or secondary education training, you will complete courses that provide instruction on the various content areas you will be teaching, whether that be English, mathematics, social studies, or a variety of other subjects.

Upon acceptance, we will evaluate all of your previous accredited coursework to determine if you fulfill any content competency areas through prior education. Based on the results of your evaluation, an Academic Advisor will assist you in creating a plan for fulfilling the remainder of your content competencies, whether that be through undergraduate classes, graduate coursework, or CLEP testing.

Gate Process for Licensure Programs

To guide you through your program and licensure requirements, you will complete a series of Gate checkpoints.

  • Gate 1 : Once you are admitted to the university’s master’s in teaching program, you will need to submit the Gate 1 application.
  • Gate 2:  Serves as a status check for licensure track program requirements. This includes a background check, test scores, and field experience requirements.
  • Gate 3 : Submit your application for student teaching. If you are seeking licensure, Gate 3 also includes submission of program and licensure requirements (i.e., licensure assessments, etc.) to be eligible for student teaching.
  • Gate 4 : The final step for students seeking licensure. Consists of program completion and state licensure application.

At each Gate, coordinators stand ready to assist and support you.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is reciprocity.

Reciprocity is when a state board of education sees another state’s licensing requirements as equal or superior to its own.

How do I find placement for my student teaching?

In our Master of Arts in Teaching, we provide you with a team of  placement coordinators  dedicated to connecting you with a placement setting that fits your unique career path.

Our team has  collaborated with schools in all 50 states , as well as many international schools.

What are the benefits of our Master’s in Teaching online?

If you pursue your initial teaching licensure through our online Master of Arts in Teaching, you can be in a better position to take advantage of the increased market demand for teachers — and with an MAT degree, you may be eligible for higher pay than with a bachelor’s degree alone.

While opportunities vary with location and population, students who complete our online teaching degree can complete initial licensure requirements with flexible scheduling. As a Liberty MAT student, you can even complete your degree in less than 2 years with our online, 3-semester schedule.

Here are some additional benefits of our online teaching degree:

  • Completing licensure track requirements through our online Master of Arts in Teaching provides the highest level of marketability for teaching positions — both in private and public school settings.
  • Completing Liberty’s MAT degree both enables students with limited previous teaching experience to enter the teaching profession and allows students with previous experience to pursue higher paid and/or administrative roles.
  • Pursuing our online Master of Arts in Teaching licensure track may make you eligible for the  Federal TEACH Grant .
  • Liberty University’s School of Education meets rigorous national standards for educator preparation set by the  Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation ( CAEP ) .

We don’t just train educators — we train educators who want to make a positive impact on the next generation. It’s who you are and who you aspire to become. We want to help you reach your goals, so we’re making our online MAT programs more affordable. While other colleges are increasing their tuition, we have frozen our tuition for all undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs for the past 9 years and counting.

Are there ways to specialize my degree?

You can also customize your Master of Arts in Teaching online by choosing an endorsement area, which will provide you with more focused training in a particular area of the education field. As a Liberty student, you will have the opportunity to learn from professors who are passionate about teaching from a biblical worldview — and who look forward to encouraging and mentoring their students.

While all of your MAT degree coursework will be available 100% online, you will still have the opportunity to complete your student teaching, where you can gain valuable tools and skills to implement in your career.

Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.

Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery and Museum

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

online art education certification

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

online art education certification

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

online art education certification

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

online art education certification

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.

Exercise for weight loss: Calories burned in 1 hour

Being active can help you lose weight and keep it off. Find out how much you need.

Being active is vital to losing weight and keeping it off. When active, the body uses more energy in the form of calories. And burning more calories than you take in leads to weight loss.

To lose weight, most people need to cut the number of calories they eat and move more. This is according to the 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans. Most often, that means cutting daily calories by 500 to 750 to lose 1 1/2 pounds (0.7 kilograms) a week.

Other factors might be involved in losing weight. Because of changes to the body over time, you might need to cut calories more as you age to keep losing weight or to stay at the same weight.

Diet or exercise: Does one matter more?

Both are important. Diet affects weight loss more than physical activity does. Physical activity, including exercise, has a stronger effect in keeping weight from coming back after weight loss.

Losing weight with diet alone and without physical activity can make people weaker. This is because of age-related losses in bone density and muscle mass. Adding resistance training and aerobic exercise to a weight-loss program helps prevent the loss of bone and muscle.

These are the exercise guidelines for most healthy adults from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services:

Aerobic activity. Get at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity a week. Or get 75 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity a week. You also can get an equal mix of the two types.

Aim to exercise most days of the week. For even more health benefits, strive for 300 minutes a week or more of moderate aerobic activity or 150 minutes of vigorous activity. Exercising this much may help with weight loss or keeping off lost weight. But even small amounts of physical activity can be helpful. Being active for short periods of time during the day can add up and give you great health benefits.

  • Strength training. Do strength training exercises for all major muscle groups at least two times a week. One set of each exercise is enough for health and fitness benefits. Use a weight or resistance level heavy enough to tire your muscles after about 12 to 15 repetitions.

Moderate aerobic exercise includes activities such as brisk walking, biking, swimming and mowing the lawn.

Vigorous aerobic exercise includes activities such as running, swimming hard laps, heavy yardwork and aerobic dancing.

Strength training can include use of weights or weight machines, your own body weight, resistance tubing, or activities such as rock climbing.

How much am I burning?

This list shows about how many calories are burned while doing certain exercises for one hour. This is based on a person who weighs 160 pounds (73 kilograms). The calories you burn depend on the exercise you do, how hard you do it, how much you weigh and other factors.

Based on Ainsworth BE, et al. 2011 compendium of physical activities: A second update of codes and MET values. Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise. 2011;43:1575.

Remember, to lose weight or to keep weight from creeping up on you as you age, you need to eat less and move more. Moving more means adding more physical activity into your life.
