Have you are wondered why soldiers are always clad in green? This is to enable them to camouflage themselves during wartime. Hiding in the jungles, their green attire blends into the surrounding trees and shrubs, making it difficult for the enemies to spot them.
Long before man-made use of camouflaging, insects have already adopted the tactic of disguise to escape from the clutches of their predators. By having body colour close to those of the rocks and dried leaves, they can escape from being pursued by the predators.
Butterflies and moths have developed a variety of camouflage strategies since they are quite defenceless and their predators are abundant. Possessing wings which resemble dried leaves help certain butterflies and moths to hide among heaps of dried leaves when predators are around.
Fortunately, not all insects choose the art of disguise to escape from their predators; otherwise, the world would be so dull and colourless. There are insects which assimilate the bright body colours of bees and wasps to escape from being pursued by their predator. Long ago, birds have already learnt to avoid brilliantly coloured wasps and bees in fear of their painful stings. Hence, over millions of years, many harmless insects have assimilated the bees and wasps by imitating. their bright body colours and shapes. In this way, they appear dangerous and hence ward them off.
The beefy, not only appears like the bumblebee in terms of body colour, even its hums sound similar too. The only difference is that the beefy does not have a stirring and is hence harmless. The hoverfly is another insect which imitates. the body colours of the wasps. Their bodies are striped yellow and black. The only deviations are that hoverflies do not have stings, and they have only one pair of wings each while wasps have two pairs each. These variations are hardly noticed by the predators and hence help them to escape.

(1) The extract deals with the writer’s concern over Chaitanya's handicap. (2) The extract depicts the writer’s proud feelings towards her son’s achievement. (3) The extract deals with how Chaitanya made the writer see positively towards life. (4) The extract deals with how the writer helps Chaitanya to buy the bus ticket.
Early in 1997-98, when he returned from state-level inter-school sports, he had two prizes to his credit and a silver medal. He had won his laurels in athletic events and the silver medal in a running race. When I saw the prizes and read the citation Chaitanya had received, I was stupefied, in total disbelief, then–hugged him, kissed him and cried unabashedly to my heart’s content. That day, I cried for the first time out of joy and a sense of being vindicated. Without practice, he had competed with approximately 1,800 children drawn from various schools all over the state. He was subsequently selected for the marathon race, but he could not participate due to a health problem. “Maybe next year, he would”, I assured myself. And I, as his proud mother, would proudly chronicle his future achievements and success to inspire other - mothers of the world. Looking back at my own life, I feel that it is the spirit with which we can accept our life gracefully is what matters ultimately; and it is love that nourishes us. All other things are unimportant. Chaitanya has made me look inwards. His handicap doesn’t disturb me any longer. He and I shall live with it and still be happy. The mental strength which he has given to me is inexhaustible. One day, as both of us got onto a public transport bus, Chaitanya offered to buy the tickets for us. “One full, one half ”, he said to the conductor beaming with joy. Looking at him, I wondered whether he was really only a half? An incomplete person? Was I really full? Complete in all respects? Why do then normal people feel that they are ‘full’ and others like Chaitanya are ‘half’ or incomplete? Chaitanya’s world is complete in itself, pure and innocent while our lives are full of deceit, jealousies, ill-feelings.

The Summit of Mount Everest
Summarizing is to briefly sum up the various points from the notes made from the below passage.
The Sherpas were nomadic people who first migrated from Tibet approximately 600 years ago, through the Nangpa La pass and settled in the Solukhumbu District, Nepal. These nomadic people then gradually moved westward along salt trade routes. During 14th century, Sherpa ancestors migrated from Kham. The group of people from the Kham region, east of Tibet, was called “Shyar Khamba”. The inhabitants of Shyar Khamba, were called Sherpa. Sherpa migrants travelled through Ü and Tsang, before crossing the Himalayas. According to Sherpa oral history, four groups migrated out of Solukhumbu at different times, giving rise to the four fundamental Sherpa clans: Minyagpa, Thimmi, Sertawa and Chawa. These four groups have since split into the more than 20 different clans that exist today.
Sherpas had little contact with the world beyond the mountains and they spoke their own language. AngDawa, a 76-year-old former mountaineer recalled “My first expedition was to Makalu [the world’s fifth highest mountain] with Sir Edmund Hillary’’. We were not allowed to go to the top. We wore leather boots that got really heavy when wet, and we only got a little salary, but we danced the Sherpa dance, and we were able to buy firewood and make campfires, and we spent a lot of the time dancing and singing and drinking. Today Sherpas get good pay and good equipment, but they don’t have good entertainment. My one regret is that I never got to the top of Everest. I got to the South Summit, but I never got a chance to go for the top.
The transformation began when the Sherpa Tenzing Norgay and the New Zealander Edmund Hillary scaled Everest in 1953. Edmund Hillary took efforts to build schools and health clinics to raise the living standards of the Sherpas. Thus life in Khumbu improved due to the efforts taken by Edmund Hillary and hence he was known as ‘Sherpa King’.
Sherpas working on the Everest generally tend to perish one by one, casualties of crevasse falls, avalanches, and altitude sickness. Some have simply disappeared on the mountain, never to be seen again. Apart from the bad seasons in 1922, 1970 and 2014 they do not die en masse. Sherpas carry the heaviest loads and pay the highest prices on the world’s tallest mountain. In some ways, Sherpas have benefited from the commercialization of the Everest more than any group, earning income from thousands of climbers and trekkers drawn to the mountain. While interest in climbing Everest grew gradually over the decades after the first ascent, it wasn’t until the 1990s that the economic motives of commercial guiding on Everest began. This leads to eclipse the amateur impetus of traditional mountaineering. Climbers looked after each other for the love of adventure and “the brotherhood of the rope” now are tending to mountain businesses. Sherpas have taken up jobs as guides to look after clients for a salary. Commercial guiding agencies promised any reasonably fit person a shot at Everest.

According to some experts, a staggering 93 percent of our daily communication is non-verbal. Facial expressions are easy to decipher. One can readily detect happiness, sadness, anger. Physicians can tell a patient is doing well (or not) by looking at his/her face. Eye contact is another type of non-verbal communication, which can tell a lot about the other person. The eyes convey a range of emotions-happiness, sadness, boredom, surprise, confidence ..... even emotional interest. Staring at someone's forehead may intimidate the recipient, staring at the mouth is sometimes interpretated as a sign of emotional interest. In fact staring into someone's eyes is a sign of lying, and so is looking away. In certain cultures, lack of eye contact is taken as a sign of respect. If body language is to be defined, it is a combination of facial expression, gestures, eye contact, body movements and posture and voice. Frequent blinking is a sign of the person feeling distressed or uncomfortable. If the pupils are dilated, it often indicates interest, even emotional interest. The lips also reflect our body language, and lip biting indicates worry and/or anxiety; tightening of the lips may be an indication of disapproval. Slightly turned-up lips indicate happiness and slightly turned-down lips indicate sadness. |

Certainly anyone who insists on condemning all lies should think about what would happen if we could reliably tell when our family, friends, colleagues, and government leaders were deceiving us. It is tempting to think that the world would become a better place without the deceptions that seem to interfere with our attempts are genuine communication. On the other hand, perhaps there is such a thing as too much honesty. - Adapted from Allison Kornet, "The Truth About Lying"
Would the world be a better place if everyone always told the complete truth? Plan and write an essay in which you develop your point of view on this issue. Support your position with reasoning and examples taken from your reading, studies, experience, or observations.
It is widely believed that people do their best work when they are promised rewards for their achievements. Our schools and workplaces operate on the assumption that good work occurs when people are competing for grades, money, or recognition from others. In truth, the prospect of rewards provided by others can inhibit and limit people’s drive and creativity. People do their best work when motivated from within by their enjoyment of a particular challenge and their satisfaction in doing something well.
What do you think motivates people to do their best? Plan and write an essay in which you develop your point of view on this issue. Support your position with reasoning and examples taken from your reading, studies, experience, or observation.

The weather was very pleasant. Mussoorie is Rightly called the ‘Queen of Hills’. It transports one into a heaven of joy.
My parents took me to Lal Tibba, the highest point in Mussoorie. Lal Tibba provides a mesmerizing view of Himalayan mountain peaks. I was mesmerized to see beautiful scenery and high mountains. Last month, our school arranged a trip to the Taj Mahal, Agra. The beauty of the Taj Mahal seemed to have no parallel. It is made of white marble on the bank of the river Yamuna. The garden in front of it has tall cypress trees, colourful flowers, and rows of mountains. Many precious gems and stones are seen set on the tomb.
I found in the Taj Mahal the artistic and cultural heritage of India. Every stone of this building tells the story of the true love of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz. The white marble structure unrolled before me a new world of beauty. It is, indeed, matchless in beauty and grandeur. That’s why it is considered one of the seven wonders of the world. I was greatly charmed by its beauty. I felt breathless for a white. It was undoubtedly the most memorable day of my life.

The most memorable incident of my life is when I got an opportunity to exhibit my talent on stage in front of a huge audience. I always dreamt of becoming a singer. As a kid, I used my toothbrush as the mike and treated my dolls as my audience.
I was enrolled in a vocal training course in an eminent singer’s singing class and from there, based on my performance I was selected to display my skills at the Zee Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. A moment which is sweet lasts long in our memory. I distinctly remember the day. My H. S. examination was over and I was having a relaxed time. One day, after spending the afternoon with my friends, I returned home.
My parents were waiting for me. Sister also came running. She was carrying a big envelope in her hand. They all seemed to be very excited and their faces bore reflections of animated joy. My sister shouted that there was a good news for me in the envelope and she would not tell unless she got a heavy bakshis.
After much cajoling, I could get the letter. Lo and behold! It was the admission letter from the I.I.T, Kharagpur. My joy then knew no bounds, I did quite well in the joint entrance examination. But to get selected finally in the highly competitive all-India test was something none could be sure of. In fact, I was a little tense to know the result.

A memorable journey
Introduction: One learns a lot about the world and life during travels. One gets to meet new people and find new cultures. I had an opportunity to visit Daijeeling along with my uncle who is working . there.
Darjeeling, the Queen of hill stations: Daijeeling is a mesmerising hill station located in West Bengal. While travelling in the amazing toy train I was transported to heaven. The lush green hills, beautiful serene monasteries, tea plantations and the clouds that played hide and seek with the Sun really dazzled me.
I spoke to the natives. They understood Hindi and Bengali. Fortunately my uncle knew Bengali and he could translate what people said in English and Tamil which broke the barrier of language. There were frequent mild rainfalls which ran chills down my spine. I can never forget the travel in toy train from Jalpaiguri to Daijeeling. The tracks rise from sea level to 7500 ft in just about 70 km. In order to overcome the gradients, the train used zig zag reverses and loops. Batasia loop is the most famous loop with the figure of eight. As the train slowly went for seven hours, I could drink the beauty of nature and take in the fresh air of the green forests.
I went to Kangchenjunga the third highest mountain in the world with an altitude of 8586 metres above sea. I felt like standing on top of the World. Sunrise from the tiger hill was the most fascinating scenes I can never forget in my life.
Conclusion: I strongly recommend that all my friends must visit Daijeeling once in their life.

DS and my fellow student officer, assalamualaikum and good afternoon. Today, I am here to discuss a memorable incident from my life. “A good long ride can clear your mind, restore your faith, and use up a lot of fuel.” And I absolutely enjoy doing that. Despite the potential discomfort of being in unfamiliar territory – including travel expenses, separation from home and family, and difficulties in communication with locals – people still have a strong passion for traveling and are willing to invest significant amounts of money for it. This is because one of the primary benefits of traveling is that it breaks the monotony of everyday life and work.
Travelling is not only a way to broaden our knowledge of geography, diverse cultures, and individuals but it is also one of my passions and hobbies. Discovering new places brings me immense happiness, satisfaction, and mental energy. Today, I want to share an unforgettable travel experience that will always hold a special place in my heart. The unknown path ahead inspires me to undertake unique journeys, even without knowing their final destinations. And now, gentlemen, let me narrate a travel story when I embarked on an adventure to explore an abandoned road. During my free time, I enjoy using Google Earth to search for exciting new destinations.

Without paying upfront
During my search, I came across an abandoned road connecting Chimbuk and Lama in Bandarban. Although unmarked, it was visible on Google Earth. Unfortunately, there was no available information about this road as it had been completely deserted. When going on vacation, typically the start is after reaching your destination by car or bus. However, if you choose to travel by motorcycle, your vacation begins right from your doorstep. Intrigued by the mystery of the road, my friend Rohit and I decided to explore it on our motorcycles. On December 14th morning, we embarked on our journey to uncover the secrets of this deserted road.
Everything was going very smoothly as we reached Bandarban at around 1135 hrs. The journey continued towards Nilgiri, which is known for its adventurous and beautiful road. The road to Nilgiri is filled with ups and downs, twists and turns, making it a thrilling experience. However, what truly mesmerizes everyone is the lush greenery of Bandarban. Along the way to Nilgiri, there is a spot called “Soilo Propat” where a water stream flows over rocks. During the rainy season, this stream becomes extremely powerful and has claimed the lives of several tourists. Nevertheless, it remains an important source of drinking water for the hill tracts areas.
Then we began our journey to Nilgiri and took a break at Peak 69, which offers a breathtaking view of the hill tracts. Continuing on our way to Nilgiri, we discovered that it is the perfect place to experience the sensation of touching the clouds while standing on the ground. Nilgiri is considered one of the most stunning destinations in Bangladesh and offers excellent accommodation options. However, our true adventure is yet to begin. Leaving Nilgiri behind, we return to Chimbuk, where we find our abandoned road. Initially, the road was incredibly beautiful and we stumbled upon some massive rocks alongside it.
During our journey, we took multiple breaks to photograph the breathtaking views. However, we encountered difficult inclines and significantly damaged parts of the road that even a 4-wheel vehicle would think twice about crossing. The road extended for 60 kilometers and only two motorcycles passed by; there were no other vehicles around. Since the road was located at the peak of the mountain, veering off course could have catastrophic outcomes. Nevertheless, despite these potential risks, we couldn’t resist being captivated by the indescribable magnificence of our environment, making it challenging to look away.
Despite the desolate nature of the road, even attracting wild elephants, we were fortunate to avoid encountering any. However, we did discover numerous elephant droppings along our journey. I would like to share a frightening experience from our trip. Certain parts of the road were steep and filled with stones and gravel. While attempting to cross one of these treacherous sections, my bike lost traction causing both wheels to skid. Although overwhelmed with fear, I somehow managed to regain control of my bike and narrowly avoided a catastrophic accident. Any slight deviation in direction could have led to significant danger.
We had to be wary at every bend and curve on this road, as it is brimming with unexpectedness and peril. In certain sections, the road was in ruins. I am immensely thankful to the individuals who built these roads.
Memorable incidents pertain to instances and reminiscences that evoke delightful emotions in our hearts and minds. The travel episode I am recounting is one such memory in my life, which rejuvenated me for my forthcoming journeys and made an enduring impact on my mind. I consider myself fortunate to have the opportunity to share awe-inspiring experiences with all of you.
