2021/2022 Catholic Citizenship Essay Contest

Each year the Knights of Columbus offer an international CATHOLIC CITIZENSHIP ESSAY CONTEST . This contest encourages today’s youth to be more connected to their community and their faith. The goal of this program is to involve young Catholics in grades 8 to 12 in civic discourse and instill in them religious and life-affirming values. Entrants are judged on grammar, style, and how clearly, they present the theme in a way that showcases creativity, imagination and overall development of the topic. This year’s topic is Faith in Action. Winners of our council level competition are;

The overall winner with the highest score across all grades is Nadia Henry.

In prior years, many of the council winners have won at the diocese and state level. We are very proud of all our entrants from previous years and look forward to another great year of prize worthy entries.

Knights of Columbus Catholic Citizenship Essay Contest

Youth in Grades 8-12 are invited to participate in the 2020-2021 Knights of Columbus Catholic Citizenship Essay Contest. 

This year’s topic is about trusting in God during a difficult time. 1 Peter 1:8 reads “Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy”.  We know God is always with us, through good and bad times. 

This contest is open to all youth in grades 8-12. Whether your parish has a Knight of Columbus council or not, all young people can enter this contest. More information: https://www.kofchawaii.org/2020-2021-catholic-citizenship-essay-contest . Deadline for submissions is 5:00 pm on December 1, 2020. Note that there will be ONE WINNER on the State level in each of the grade categories. The highest score for these categories will receive a scholarship of $500!!! About the contest

In an essay of 500- 750 words, explain how young Catholics can evangelize our faith to families and friends who have turned away from religion and encourage them to return to the Church and embrace the sacraments. The essay should be approximately 500-750 words on a specific subject, changing every other year. Entrants will be judged on grammar, style, and how clearly they present the theme – which should showcase creativity, imagination and overall development of the topic.

Council 12708 has decided to limit participation in this contest to 8th graders at Ss Simon and Jude Cathedral School.

Essays must reflect the assigned theme and be the student’s original work.

Essays must be typed and be between 500 and 750 words in length.

The student’s name should appear only on the official Catholic Citizenship essay Contest entry form, which must be stapled to the essay.

All entries become the property of the Knights of Columbus and will not be returned.

Knights of Columbus announce essay contest

The New Hampshire Knights of Columbus is once again sponsoring a Student Respect Life Essay Contest. The contest is open to any junior high (grades 6, 7, 8) and senior high (grades 9, 10, 11, 12) student in the state. The N.H. Knights of Columbus will make up to six cash awards of $100. You do not have to be a member of the Knights or a Catholic to participate.

The theme for this year’s contest is: “Scandal is doing or saying something that encourages others to do wrong. What would you say to Catholics who publicly advocate and support abortion, thus giving scandal, and compromising their own and others' salvation?”

Deadline for the contest is midnight on Dec. 15, 2021

Essays may not be longer than 500 words; typed, and submitted as a PDF or Word Document and emailed to [email protected].  Include student name, age, grade, school, parent name and address, phone, parish and email.

Students may obtain help and information, including from parents, teachers, friends, and internet, but the essay itself must be their own work.

2023-2024 Catholic Citizenship Essay Contest

All 8th Graders (OLS and Religious Education students) are invited to participate in the 2023-2024 Knights of Columbus (K of C) Catholic Citizenship Essay Contest. This contest encourages today’s youth to be more connected to their community and their Catholic faith through creative writing. The local contest is being hosted by St. Francis Knights of Columbus Council #4401.

Student essays must be original compositions of 500-750 words that address the following topic:

How can the Church evangelize in the digital age? In Biblical times, the only way to “carry” good news was to bring it physically, walking from one place to another. Technological advances, however, have opened up numerous additional communication channels, all of which we can use to amplify the rate at which we spread the Word. – Romans 10:14-15

Deadline for submissions is December 15, 2023 at 10:00pm. We expect to complete judging over the holidays and announce winners in early January.

Prizes Cash prizes of $150 (1st Place), $100 (2nd Place) and $50 (3rd Place) will be awarded.

Knights of Columbus crown winners of annual Vocations Essay Contest

The Delaware State Council of the Knights of Columbus announced the winners of the 2021-22 Jerry E. Dawson PSD Memorial 26 th Annual Vocation Essay Contest.

The winners will receive a $50 check and an engraved plaque, plus they will record their essays for broadcast on Relevant Radio 640-AM.

The winners are Stella Bickling, St. Mary Magdalen, fifth grade; Charlotte Danner, St. Ann, sixth grade; Eliana Lawrence, Immaculate Heart of Mary, seventh grade; and Sarah Eastment, Ursuline, eighth grade.
