February 7, 1995–March 14, 2006

New Line Home Video Coming Soon ID (1995)

Bumper : Same as before, except the announcements now appear over the New Line Home Video/Entertainment filmbox:

  • Coming Soon To A Motion Picture Theatre Near You (1995-2006)
  • Now Playing At A Motion Picture Theatre Near You (1995-2006)
  • Coming Soon From New Line Home Video (1995-2001)
  • Now Available From New Line Home Video (1995-2001)
  • Coming Soon From New Line Home Entertainment (2001-2006)
  • Now Available From New Line Home Entertainment (2001-2006)
  • Feature Presentation (1995-2006)
  • In Theaters Holiday 2001 (2001)
  • Coming Soon From New Line Television
  • Debuting in 2001, the "Home Video" clip-ons were altered to read "Home Entertainment," as New Line's home media division had changed its name to the latter. With this came a slightly altered font for all clip-ons as well.
  • An extremely rare clip-on variant exists where the text says "In Theaters Holiday 2001". It precedes a trailer for The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring . Only known to appear on the 2001 VHS releases of Rush Hour 2 and Hedwig and the Angry Inch .
  • A very rare "stay tuned" clip-on variant of this bumper exists, wherein the text says "Stay Tuned After Our Feature Presentation." It only appears on select VHS releases as described here .
  • A Spanish version of the "Feature Presentation" clip-on exists on Spanish subtitled tapes from the era.

FX/SFX : Same as above.

Music/Sounds : Wendell Craig (who also announced for Nickelodeon) says:

  • Coming Soon To A Motion Picture Theatre Near You (1995-2001): "Coming soon to a motion picture theatre near you."
  • Now Playing At A Motion Picture Theatre Near You (1995-2001): "Now playing at a motion picture theatre near you."
  • Coming Soon From New Line Home Video (1995-2001): "Coming soon from New Line Home Video."
  • Now Available From New Line Home Video (1995-2001): "Now available from New Line Home Video."
  • Feature Presentation (1995-2001): "And now, our feature presentation."

Music/Sounds Variants :

  • It was also like this on the 1995 VHS releases of Corrina, Corrina , Wes Craven's New Nightmare , and Cyborg Soldier , some of the very first releases with the bumper.
  • A rare early variant of the 2001 version features Wendell saying just "Coming Soon" or "Now Available" over the "...From New Line Home Entertainment" clip-ons. This can be seen on the 2001 VHS releases of Thirteen Days , State and Main , 15 Minutes , and The Invisible Circus .

Availability : Seen on New Line Home Video/Entertainment VHS releases from the era, as well as demo DVDs. The first tape to use the voiceover variant was Dumb and Dumber , and the last to use the full, unedited voiceovers was Dungeons & Dragons . The last tape to use this bumper in general was A History of Violence , widely regarded as the last VHS ever released (though some major studio titles would be released on analog tape into 2008, albeit either as Disney Movie Club exclusives or only as screener tapes). The Feature Presentation variant is strangely left off the 1999 "Edited for Family Viewing" VHS of The Mask , as well as reissues of older New Line films such as 8 Seconds and Now and Then , the 2002 VHS of Storytelling , and the 2002 screener tape of Happy Campers . The Feature Presentation voiceover variant continued to be used on some demo tapes from 2001-02 ( Life as a House uses the silent version), ending with All About the Benjamins , though it makes a surprise appearance on the 2002 VHS of Brother's Keeper , which otherwise has silent bumpers.

Editor's Notes :

  • The early subvariant of the 2001 version awkwardly cuts off the audio of Wendell saying "...from New Line Home Video." In fairness, the edit was done long before the invention of modern audio editing programs, though why it was never re-recorded is unknown.
  • Certain clip-on variants of the bumper cut off abruptly, meaning Wendell's voiceover carries into the fadeout. This has been known to occur on both "Motion Picture Theatre" clip-ons.

COMMENTS

  1. New Line Home Entertainment

On New Line Home Video DVD releases from 1999 to 2001, the Time Warner byline is in bold and in all caps. There is one 4:3 version of the AOL Time Warner byline variant that has similar camera field of vision angle degrees as the 60p version of the logo. Another notable difference is that the byline is not near the bottom of the screen.

  2. New Line Home Entertainment (Home Video Bumpers)

Visuals: Same as the previous bumpers, except the announcements now appear over the New Line Home Video filmbox. There also exists a variant with "Feature Presentation". Variant: Starting in 2001, the text is in a slightly different font. Technique: A still, computerized graphic.
