A camel has four legs, two eyes, a tail, and a hump on its back. Its lips are broad and drooping outside with which it can eat the thorny cactus plants. It has 34 teeth. It can close its nostrils when there is a violent storm in the desert to protect itself. Its feet are paddy and they help to walk faster in the sand.

A camel drinks 36 liters of water in a day. If fresh leaves are available then it drinks 32 liters of water. It can store food and water in a big bag-like structure situated in the stomach. This organ is called a hump. Hence camels can stay without food and water for longer durations. The need for water is further reduced if fresh leaves are available as food. Camel is the most popular means of transport in deserts.

Camels are used for carrying luggage, heavy loads, and even in farming. They are also used during wars. On Republic Day , the soldiers riding on their camels take part in the parade. Children enjoy the camel ride along the seashore. Apart from this, the hair of the camel is used in the textile industry. It’s the basic raw material for making wool, ropes, bags, etc. In some parts, they are also used in farming. It is truly called the ship of the desert.

It contains a large amount of water. So the camel can go without drinking water for several days. 

Camel is found in lands where there are great deserts. It is used in the deserts of Arabia, Persia, Afghanistan, Egypt and India.

Camel is very adventurous and is famous for its patience. It can travel several miles across the desert. It does not get tired easily. When it travels in the desert, it cannot drink water or eat grass and no shade is found for rest. It drinks a lot of water before starting and can go on without drinking for about a week. It can see things from afar. It can smell water from long distances. It is gentle and painful and it does not harm us. But sometimes, it gets furious and bites us if we tease it too much.
