A School Excursion

Last Saturday was a very fine day. The sky was overcast. We did not like to read on that day. We requested our teacher to arrange and excursion on a river. He granted our request. We started on our excursion.

The river is at a distance of four kilometers from our school. Our worthy teacher decided to go on foot. We all agreed to his proposal. We started  in happy mood. We had hardly gone two kilometers when we met another school party. It was a happy union. We went further happily and merrily.

We went on shouting out of joy. Some of us were singing merrily. Both the parties enjoyed the natural sights on the way. There came upon a welcome shower on the way. It made the weather good. On our way we met trucks and buses. Thus talking , laughing and singing we reached the river. We crossed the bridge and enjoyed the sight of water flowing rapidly.

We made small boats of paper and floated them on the surface of water. Both the parties separated to enjoy themselves. My party which consisted of sixteen boys crossed the river in a large boat and reached the other bank. Other boys selected a lonely place. While we were in the boat we heard a farmer boy singing a song. We kept on wandering  for some time to  enjoy sights. After two hours we returned to join our companions.     

At about 12 o’ clock we had our lunch with a great joy. We stole some fruits and vegetable from the fields and enjoyed them. In the evening both the parties played a Kabaddi match. When the match was going on, one of our companions entered the water to bath. As he went further, the waves swept him away. He cried for help. I , being a good swimmer, at once jumped into the  river and brought him to the bank. When he regained his senses, we were very happy.

Soon it was the time to return. We were again on the road for home. The sun in the west had grown more pleasant. So the return journey was more enjoyable. We came back talking and walking leisurely. It was quite dark when we were again in the school compound.

From school we started for our homes all glad at having a good excursion.

School Excursion Essay

Excursions are must, especially for students. They have a great educational value That is why schools often organize excursions for students. Apart from educating students and exposing them to various experiences, it is a great time of recreation. It is the day all students wait for eagerly.

My class was taken on an excursion last month. A bus was arranged. We sat in it and it took us to all the places we had to see. We were all very happy. We sang on our way and the bus speeded through various towns and villages. The sound of the horn was a constant irritant but we could tolerate it because we were too busy having a good singing session in the bus.

We were going to Agra from Delhi. The bus stopped on the way at a restaurant. We all got off the bus to have some refreshment. Our teachers had to take good care of us lest anybody got lost. After half an hour we were on our way again Many of my friends started feeling a little sleepy and tired.,

Soon we reached Agra. We formed a line and entered the guest house where our stay had been arranged. We were to see Fatehpur Sikri and the Taj Mahal and leave for Delhi the following day. We left our luggage in the guest house, freshened up and were on our way to see the Taj Mahal.

When I first set my eyes on the Taj Mahal, I was speechless It is rightly called one of the wonders of the world. A white marble dream was before our eyes. Many students began to click cameras. I took a closer look at the work done on the marble Inlay work which is a special feature with the artisans of Agra was visible on the walls of the Taj Mahal.

We sat down over the grass and played some games. All this time we had the beautiful Taj in view. Time and again would look up to glance at it. I could not resist walking around it several times It took me long to thoroughly absorb the beauty of this masterpiece.

We left for Fatehpur Sikri after that, it was a great experience to see the tombs of the ancient Mughal kings and queens. History suddenly came alive. I asked my teacher several questions to satisfy my curiosity about various details.

It was a memorable trip. We drove back home but the return journey was filled with a bit of sadness, It was the end of great two days in my school life.

A few years ago, I embarked on what was supposed to be an exhilarating solo hike through the dense forests of Daintree in Australia. It was a crisp, refreshing morning, with the sun peeking through the canopies and the sound of distant bird calls accompanying my journey.

My adventure commenced at the trailhead near the indigenous heritage sites, where the forest’s grandeur instantly captivated me. However, my fascination soon led me astray as I deviated from the marked paths, lured by the mysterious sounds and sights deeper within the woods and time slipped away unnoticed until the diminishing light and shifting shadows signaled dusk’s approach. It dawned on me then, with a jolt of anxiety, that I had ventured too far and lost my way.

Amid the forest’s cacophony, a sense of isolation crept in, and I struggled to quell the rising panic. Recognizing the futility of fear, I forced myself to focus, recalling survival documentaries that advised finding a water source. A nearby stream, fortunately, provided the lifeline I needed, and I decided to follow its flow, hoping it would lead me to broader pathways or inhabited areas.

My strategy proved effective when, after what seemed like an eternity, the stream merged with a more prominent river, alongside which ran a hiking trail. Relief flooded through me, replacing apprehension with a newfound sense of confidence.

Reflecting on this experience, it wasn’t just about confronting the fear of being lost. It was a profound journey of self-discovery, resilience, and learning to harness inner calm in the face of adversity. It taught me that sometimes, the path to finding oneself both physically and metaphorically requires us to navigate through our fears and uncertainties first.

Welcome home! Now that you’re back from your trip, you’d like to share it with others in a travel essay. You’re a good writer and a good editor of your work, but you’ve never tried travel writing before. As your potential reader, I have some advice and some requests for you as you write your travel experience essay.

Trip Essays: What to Avoid

Please don’t tell me everything about your trip. I don’t want to know your travel schedule or the names of all the castles or restaurants you visited. I don’t care about the plane trip that got you there (unless, of course, that trip is the story).

I have a friend who, when I return from a trip, never asks me, “How was your trip?” She knows that I would give her a long, rambling answer: “… and then … and then … and then.” So instead, she says, “Tell me about one thing that really stood out for you.” That’s what I’d like you to do in this travel essay you’re writing.

The Power of Compelling Scenes

One or two “snapshots” are enough—but make them great. Many good writers jump right into the middle of their account with a vivid written “snapshot” of an important scene. Then, having aroused their readers’ interest or curiosity, they fill in the story or background. I think this technique works great for travel writing; at least, I would rather enjoy a vivid snapshot than read through a day-to-day summary of somebody’s travel journal.

Write About a Trip Using Vivid Descriptions

Take your time. Tell a story. So what if you saw things that were “incredible,” did things that were “amazing,” observed actions that you thought “weird”? These words don’t mean anything to me unless you show me, in a story or a vivid description, the experience that made you want to use those adjectives.

I’d like to see the place, the people, or the journey through your eyes, not someone else’s. Please don’t rewrite someone else’s account of visiting the place. Please don’t try to imitate a travel guide or travelogue or someone’s blog or Facebook entry. You are not writing a real travel essay unless you are describing, as clearly and honestly as possible, yourself in the place you visited. What did you see, hear, taste, say? Don’t worry if your “take” on your experience doesn’t match what everyone else says about it. (I’ve already read what THEY have to say.)

The Importance of Self-Editing Your Trip Essay

Don’t give me your first draft to read. Instead, set it aside and then reread it. Reread it again. Where might I need more explanation? What parts of your account are likely to confuse me? (After all, I wasn’t there.) Where might you be wasting my time by repeating or rambling on about something you’ve already told me?

Make me feel, make me laugh, help me learn something. But don’t overdo it: Please don’t preach to me about broadening my horizons or understanding other cultures. Instead, let me in on your feelings, your change of heart and mind, even your fear and uncertainty, as you confronted something you’d never experienced before. If you can, surprise me with something I didn’t know or couldn’t have suspected.

The more you practice crafting short essays, the more your overall writing proficiency improves.

How to write a short essay

The tactics you use for longer essays apply to short essays as well. Regardless of the essay type, following these five steps will make writing your short essay much easier.

Don’t be afraid of learning too much about a subject when you have a small word count. The better you understand your subject, the easier it will be to write clearly about it.

2 Generate ideas

Jot down key points, arguments, or examples that you want to include in your essay. Don’t get too wrapped up in the details during this step. Just try to get down all of the big ideas that you want to get across. Your major argument or theme will likely emerge as you contemplate.

Outlines are especially helpful for short essays because you don’t have any room for excess information. Creating an outline will help you stay on topic when it comes time to write.

You have to actually write the essay. Once you’ve done your research, developed your big ideas, and outlined your essay, the writing will come more easily.

Naturally, our favorite part of the process is the editing . The hard part (writing) is done. Now you can go back through and make sure all of your word choices make sense, your grammar is checked, and you have cleaned up any unessential or irrelevant information.

Short essay examples

Why small dogs are better than big dogs (209 words).

Small dogs are beloved companions to many, and their unique qualities make them a perfect fit for some pet owners. In this essay, we explore why a small dog might be the right choice for you.

Firstly, the compact size of small dogs makes them ideal for people living in apartments or homes with limited space. As long as you can get your furry friend to fresh air (and grass) a couple of times per day, you don’t have to worry about having a big yard.

Secondly, small dogs require less food, which can be advantageous for those on a budget.

Use these travel writing prompts, initially created as part of the Wanderlust Writing Challenge, to help inspire your writing, dream up new story ideas, or simply get your creative juices flowing...

Welcome! You've landed on Wanderlust 's travel writing prompts. Hopefully, you're sat at your laptop (or have your pen in hand) and are ready to write.

Originally created for the Wanderlust Writing Challenge, these prompts are designed to help you flex your writing muscles. All of them will help you to explore past travels as something to write about, and hopefully spark a few ideas for future stories, articles and journal entries.

Explore your senses

For your first prompt, let’s open up the senses. Write no more than three sentences about one of your favourite destinations. Include all five senses in your description.

What can you see, hear and smell? Was the sun shining, and did you smell crisp, clear fresh air? Were cars whizzing past in a bustling city centre, or were you struck by the wild roar of a lion on safari? What did you eat while you were there – how delicious (or not-so-delicious) did it taste? Did you touch anything – how did it feel?

Save your sentences in a safe place, like a Notes folder or a Word Doc, so you can refer back to them.

Describing people

Often, our travels involve meeting kind strangers or quirky characters. Before you write about them, it might be easier to describe someone you know. Pick someone you’re close to – be it a travel companion, a friend at home, a family member, etc – and write out 10 words you’d use to describe them.

Think about their personality, the way they walk and talk, their laugh, not just their physical appearance. Now take two or three of those descriptors, and use them in a line or two about the person.

Reflect: Looking back, do you think you chose the best adjectives? Have any others popped into your head today, maybe that would be suited to describing the people you met on the road? Write them down and keep them somewhere you can look back on.

A picture tells 1,000 words

Today's prompt requires reflecting on travel photographs (Shutterstock)

Whether print or digital, pull out your last (pre-lockdown) travel photo. Take a good long look at it – what’s happening in the shot?

Write a short account of that experience, just before and just after you snapped the photo. As much as you like, but a few lines is more than enough. What was it like? What were you doing? How do you feel about that experience looking back now?

Don’t worry about trying to make it sound ‘fancy’ – instead, imagine you’re recounting the experience to a friend or fellow traveller.

Reflect: Did you find it easier to write when you imagined telling the story to someone? Or harder? It’s great to journal and record travel experiences for yourself, but your entry at the end of the challenge is about writing a story for other people – friends, and fellow travellers – read and enjoy.

Sentence starter

As  we've learned , an engaging first line and paragraph is important for hooking the reader's attention. Especially when it comes to travel writing. So, h ere's a sentence starter to get you going.

Try starting a piece of writing with the sentence:  Of all the things that could have gone wrong, this could only happen to me.  You'll need to revisit a trip that didn't quite go to plan to make it work.

Conversations

When we're travelling for ourselves, we don't often think to make a note of the conversations we have, though professional travel journalists and authors will often take a notebook and note conversations, times, dates and places.

For the latest prompt, try to write up what you remember of an interaction with a local, or a fellow traveller, from any past adventure you've been on. Where were you: haggling in a market? Meeting at a restaurant? What do you remember them saying, exactly? Can you only remember the outline of what they said? If so, jot it down.

What was it about? How did they describe things? Did you learn something from the conversation, and if so, how would get that across subtly in your writing, without saying it outright? Imagine how you'd recall the conversation to a friend or colleague, and try to write it that way.

Write as much or as little as you like. Keep your writing somewhere safe, so you can refer back to it.

Highs and lows

On any trip, no matter how spectacular, there'll be high points and low points. You may be ticking off a bucket list adventure, or enjoying one of the world's great wonders, but nobody is immune to the annoyance of a delayed flight or missing suitcase.

Ups and downs are still part of our travel experience, whether we like it or not. So, decide which trip you'd like to write about (surely, when you think of a 'low point', one springs to mind?) and try to take your reader on a short journey, starting with the lowest point.

The purpose? To help you write a knockout ending - with the 'pay off' being the absolute highlight of the trip. What went wrong, and how did you get past it? Was it all worth it in the end?

What's the weather?

Picture the worst weather you’ve experienced on your travels: biting cold, stifling heat or endless flurries of rain. How did it feel? Did you get drenched? Maybe it was so severe you had to seek shelter, or find a water supply?

Write as much or as little you like for this prompt, but you must start with a straight-into-the-action description of the weather around you.  See where that takes you.

If describing the weather doesn't come naturally, make an attempt to one instance of pathetic fallacy. It's a writing technique where you attribute a human emotion or feeling to something in nature, like an animal or, indeed, the weather. Here's an example: The sandstorm raged on.  Often, it mirrors the narrator's own feelings.

Sentence starter #2

No pressure to remember conversations or practice literary techniques for today’s prompt! Phew . Today, we just want to focus on the kindness of strangers, which was also our theme for the  Wanderlust Writing Challenge.

Pack your bags

Wherever you travel, however you travel, and no matter how long you travel for - packing for your trip is essential. Today's prompt is all about turning that unavoidable constant into something a bit more creative. It's simple: write as much or as little as you like about a packing for a recent trip. 

Ever packed for a long weekend the night before, and argued with your travel companion about a misplaced passport? Felt overwhelmed by a to-do list for a trek or three-month expedition, and forgotten most everything on it?

How do you feel when you pack: are you calm and excited for the adventure ahead, or do you feel wistful as you come across old plane tickets and paper maps, as you re-pack your trusty travel case? Perhaps you simply hate this part of travel, and want to (comedically) vent your frustration. Put it all down on paper, and see where that takes you.

Foodie travellers, rejoice! This prompt is for you. Your challenge is to write a few lines, a short paragraph, about a particularly enjoyable foodie experience you've had.

A  region or country's cuisine is part of its culture, and for lots of us, a big part of our travel experience. So, aim for lots of vivid detail: what were your surroundings? Was it made by a local chef?  What did you eat? What ingredients could you taste?

Was when you ate it important (say, after a challenging hike), and how did it make you feel? And important, did you dare to try the national tipple after your meal?

Describe the most breathtaking, awe-inspiring landscape you've ever witnessed, putting our travel writing tips into practice.

Don't fall into the trap of over-fluffing your descriptions, with fancy words you'd never use in daily life. At the same time, make a real effort to avoid these  all-too-common travel writing phrases . Time to stretch your vocabulary. Write as much or as little as you like, but aim for at least a few lines.

Your writing prompt today isn't about writing. It's about reading, which is incredibly important if you want to be a travel writer. Not just the work of others, but your own work, too.

“Expository” means “intended to explain or describe something.” An expository essay provides a clear, focused explanation of a particular topic, process, or set of ideas. It doesn’t set out to prove a point, just to give a balanced view of its subject matter.

Expository essays are usually short assignments intended to test your composition skills or your understanding of a subject. They tend to involve less research and original arguments than argumentative essays .

In school and university, you might have to write expository essays as in-class exercises, exam questions, or coursework assignments.

Sometimes it won’t be directly stated that the assignment is an expository essay, but there are certain keywords that imply expository writing is required. Consider the prompts below.

The word “explain” here is the clue: An essay responding to this prompt should provide an explanation of this historical process—not necessarily an original argument about it.

Sometimes you’ll be asked to define a particular term or concept. This means more than just copying down the dictionary definition; you’ll be expected to explore different ideas surrounding the term, as this prompt emphasizes.

An expository essay should take an objective approach: It isn’t about your personal opinions or experiences. Instead, your goal is to provide an informative and balanced explanation of your topic. Avoid using the first or second person (“I” or “you”).

The structure of your expository essay will vary according to the scope of your assignment and the demands of your topic. It’s worthwhile to plan out your structure before you start, using an essay outline .

A common structure for a short expository essay consists of five paragraphs: An introduction, three body paragraphs, and a conclusion.

Like all essays, an expository essay begins with an introduction . This serves to hook the reader’s interest, briefly introduce your topic, and provide a thesis statement summarizing what you’re going to say about it.

In many ways, the invention of the printing press marked the end of the Middle Ages. The medieval period in Europe is often remembered as a time of intellectual and political stagnation. Prior to the Renaissance, the average person had very limited access to books and was unlikely to be literate. The invention of the printing press in the 15th century allowed for much less restricted circulation of information in Europe, paving the way for the Reformation.

The body of your essay is where you cover your topic in depth. It often consists of three paragraphs, but may be more for a longer essay. This is where you present the details of the process, idea or topic you’re explaining.

It’s important to make sure each paragraph covers its own clearly defined topic, introduced with a topic sentence . Different topics (all related to the overall subject matter of the essay) should be presented in a logical order, with clear transitions between paragraphs.

The invention of the printing press in 1440 changed this situation dramatically. Johannes Gutenberg, who had worked as a goldsmith, used his knowledge of metals in the design of the press. He made his type from an alloy of lead, tin, and antimony, whose durability allowed for the reliable production of high-quality books. This new technology allowed texts to be reproduced and disseminated on a much larger scale than was previously possible. The Gutenberg Bible appeared in the 1450s, and a large number of printing presses sprang up across the continent in the following decades. Gutenberg’s invention rapidly transformed cultural production in Europe; among other things, it would lead to the Protestant Reformation.

An expository essay is a broad form that varies in length according to the scope of the assignment.

Expository essays are often assigned as a writing exercise or as part of an exam, in which case a five-paragraph essay of around 800 words may be appropriate.

You’ll usually be given guidelines regarding length; if you’re not sure, ask.

An Excursion in which you took part

Last year I went on an excursion to Thiruvananthapuram and Kanyakumari. In our party there were twenty students and four teachers. We had reserved twenty-four seats in the Kerala Express bound for Thiruvananthapuram.

We boarded the train and occupied the seats allotted to us. We were in high spirits. Everyone looked happy and relaxed. Hardly had we travelled about a hundred kilometers, when a number of passengers entered our coach. Some of them sat forcefully near our seats. For want of seats, some of them stood in the coach. When we told them that the coach was only for those who had reserved their seats, they reviled us. They became vociferous and boisterous and created a pandemonium. We wanted to chuck them out, but we could not. We resigned ourselves to our fate. We were greatly relieved when all of them got off at the next station.

As soon as the train reached Thiruvananthapurarn, we got down and went to the Mascot Hotel. We had already reserved a few rooms there. After food, we went to bed and slept like logs. Sleep, “great nature’s second course,” described by Shakespeare helped us greatly to get rid of our weariness and fatigue.

The next day we woke up and went to see the museum there. We saw a number of birds and animals. The antics of the black chimpanzee attracted us greatly. The tigers and lions in captivity do not have the prowess and vitality of the tigers and lions living in natural habitats. By 2 p.m. we returned to the hotel and had our lunch. Then we spent an hour discussing what we had seen in the museum.

Then our journey to Kanyakumari commenced. It was in a luxury coach belonging to the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation. At 3 p.m. we boarded the coach.

By 6 p.m. we reached Kanyakumari. Soon we went to the hotel and occupied the rooms that had been reserved for us. After keeping our luggage, we went to see the sunset. We saw a red globe sinking into the calm ocean there. Its beauty is ineffable. There is something solemn and even awe inspiring in the splendid beauty of the sky as the Sun sets in the west. Wordsworth felt it when he wrote:

The clouds that gather round the setting sun

Do take a sober colouring from an eye

That bath kept watch o’er man’s mortality.

We returned to the hotel.

At dawn we woke up and went to see the rising sun in all its glory. The refulgent sunlight dazzled the entire atmosphere. The enthralling sunrise reminded me of the Englishman in Henry New bolt’s poem He fell among thieves. The Englishman requested his enemies that he should be killed only after dawn since he wanted to see the rising sun in all its glory. The Englishman considered the Sun as the symbol and manifestation of god. We agree with him. It is the Sun that sustains all life on Earth.

At 4 p.m. on the next day, we went to see the Vivekananda Rock Memorial. The beautiful engravings on it captivated us. The ‘harmony and peace’ characteristic of every religion, mentioned by Swami Vivekananda in his address at the final session in Chicago (27th September 1893), seemed to prevail in the atmosphere there. We sat there in silence and thought of the contribution made by him to interpret the religious heritage of India to the outside world.

Our return journey home was pleasant.

Our stay was full of fun. My grandmother told us funny incidences about my dad as a little mischievous and a notorious kid. She told us how he used to play pranks on his school teachers and their neighbours. She also told us how I and my sister behaved when we were young. She told us we were as notorious as our dad.

One day my grandfather took us to the Great Ran of Kutch which is located in the Thar Desert and is one of the largest salt deserts in the world. We took a camel ride and stayed there till the sunset. After spending some quality time there we then went to the main market. My grandma told us about the unique handicrafts of Kutch and how a lot of women make their living by selling different types of embroidered cloths. We bought an embroidered kurta for dad and a sari for mom. After this we headed back home and helped grandma with dinner. The next day we went with our grandpa to a farm and he taught us about various farming techniques which was really fun. We indulged in different activities each day.

This was one of the best trips where we had loads of fun and also learnt about the culture and heritage of Kutch. I am looking forward to more trips like these.

For those of us living in metropolitan cities summer holidays mean watching movies and television series or hanging out with friends or just surfing internet. This consumes all of our time. But, this summer spending time at my aunt’s place in Bhiwani village was an enthralling experience. It seemed like a different world to me.

Knowing Village Culture

The houses in the village are as big as palaces but still people are emotionally attached and aware about what is going on in each other’s life. Eating together, understanding situations and opinions of other people and working together are some of the few small things that add up to make a beautiful village life.

Waking up early in the mornings is a practice that most villagers follow. It keeps them healthy and makes their day more productive. So, all the people of the house are required to be awake by 6 in morning which seemed like a curse to us initially. My uncle owns a utensils shop in the village and he opens it at 7 in the morning each day. He left for work before 7 am each day. Most of the people were seen heading for their work around the same time.

I spent my mornings in the kitchen with all the ladies of the house doing preparations for breakfast and lunch. I also helped them clean up the house after the kitchen tasks. In the afternoon, me and my brother took a round of the village and also delivered lunch at my uncle’s shop. Rest of the afternoon was spent in slumber after having a heavy diet and loads of gossips.

The evening time in the village was the time for which I waited with a lot of excitement. One evening we went to the village well where women went to fetch drinking water. It was great to see them balance the pots full of water and walking back in a row. But the main treat was to see the confidence and happiness on their faces. The village also encompassed a big playground that used to be full of kids during the evening hours.

Our aunt and uncle also took us to the farm to show us the beautiful process of growing and nurturing of fruits and vegetables. Looking at the farmers, putting so much effort on their harvest and their faces during the harvesting time was a great sight.

I also went to one of the panchayat going on in the village under a banyan tree where issues of the village were being solved by the elders of the village with the consent of all other people of village. This is where I witnessed a small example of democracy.

The simplicity of the life in village is where its beauty lies. My visit to village always teaches me compassion and to have love towards our family.

Summer season is mainly known for its heat waves and holidays that we students get because of that. It’s a great time for students to go for a stress relieving trip and to be closer to nature for which they don’t get time during their hectic schedule throughout the year.

We Decided to Go to a Hill Station

Our family decided to go for a summer trip and that too to a hill station this year. There are many beautiful places in India known for their scenic beauty such as Mussoorie, Ooty, Wilson Hills, Kufri, Nainital, Manali, Kerala and Rishikesh to name a few. After a long discussion about which hill station to go for, we finally settled for Shimla.

Our Trip to Shimla

We all went there via road in our car and reached there in the morning. Then, we directly went to the hotel that we had already booked. Shimla has got everything to lure the tourists from lavish hotels to picturesque locations and from mall road to shopping streets full of people coming from different cultures.

We had planned the trip for 5 days. So in the evening of our first day of trip we went to the mall road and Jhaku hills which are known as the main tourist spots in the city. In the evening, there are many different activities going on there. It was amazing to witness the night life of Shimla. We visited the Footloose Discotheque which was full of vibrant people and buzzed with great music.

Our next day included travelling through the toy train. This toy train here runs from Kalka to Shimla. There are only 3 such trains in our country and one of them is here. It’s an amusing experience to travel through them irrespective of the fact that they are really slow. The evening time was spent doing some snow adventures such as skiing and bungee jumping.

The next days were spent visiting places near Shimla such as Chail, Kufri and Chitkul. These places can be visited for some snow adventure besides enjoying their beautiful scenic beauty.

Shimla is also a good treat for foodies like me. A bizarre thing about Shimla’s food is – either there are really tiny diners or cafes offering just fast food, variety of teas and cold drinks or fancy eateries that have over priced alcohol in the menus – there is no ground in between. We had salami burgers at Beekays, which were delicious.

During all these days filled with loads of activities to do, we used to get really tired in the evening, but the night life of there or just staring at the starry sky used to give us immense sense of joy and fill us with new energy. There is an enchanting music from tall trees standing upright there, curvy roads that makes one look at those beautiful hills from all the angles and that lively breeze that fills one’s soul and heart with ecstasy.

We came back to Delhi after spending five fun-filled days in Shimla. The memory of this trip is fresh in my head. Shimla is indeed the queen of hill stations. I would love to visit the place again.

Summer is the most awaited time in any student’s academic year. Despite the scorching sun and blazing heat, these months for me have always brought a peculiar type of calmness to my soul that oozes freedom from monotony and dullness. As it is time for vacation, it is the time to explore, wander, plan and much more. Summer vacations are always fun but my summer holidays were especially memorable. What made it special was that it was my first advent on a foreign land or I might say “lands”.

My First Foreign Trip

The year 2017 was my last academic session in school. So, before going to the college a complete family gateway to exotic lands was the gift I got from my family. I could not have asked for more. Our travel plan was a perfect mixture of fairy Disneyworld and glamorous Hong Kong and then to the multi ethnic country island of Malaysia.

On the very next day when my summer vacations began, I found myself on the terminal 2 of Chhatrapati Shivaji airport, Mumbai, looking for my flight boarding pass and posting stories about it on my social media accounts. My parents, siblings and cousins surrounded me. There was excitement on every one’s face. Being a full extended family vacation with all my cousins, aunts and uncles it seemed super fun from the time we set out in cabs to the airport. It was not my first time being amidst the clouds but it was my first international flight giving a magnificent view of night lights of the complete city and looking at that I knew that this trip was going to be a one of a kind experience for me.

Landing at Hong Kong, I was taken aback by just the mere sight of their airport. I think they indeed lived to the fact that the “first impression is the last impression”. I was definitely amazed beyond imagination but somewhere I knew this was just the beginning. The first day at this beautiful place mainly consisted of exploring the streets of this breathtaking city which was rich in fashion, food, tech and everything that screamed modern and at the same time archaic in their way of life.

The next place we visited was what all of us had dreamed of visiting since long. IT was the mesmerizing Disneyland. The very first thing that caught my attention was not the people around dressed in Disney characters or the marvellous expanse of the space and rides and shops but the castle at the far end – The Disney Castle. It was just spectacular. The very charm and enchantment of it knocked me out of breath. The fireworks at night after a complete parade show especially makes you wonder if you really had crossed a line and entered the fantasy world. It had been a lot more than I would have imagined even in my make-believe.

The next was a travelling day as we moved to our next destination Malaysia. The City gateway was complete opposite of where we came. This city did not have many sky scrapers but the beautifully spread horizontal city was very rich in culture and diversity. The exquisiteness of mosques, museums and heritage sites perfectly blend with the modern lifestyle and modern layout of city. The hill top parts of the country like Genting Highlands could be definitely called heaven on earth. The beaches here offered a perfect place to relax and rejuvenate. I am glad we choose this as our last destination during this trip.

This has been one of the best holidays I have ever gone on. I saw so many beautiful places, had great experiences and spent a lot of time with my loving family. My last summer vacation was indeed the best so far.

Long Essay on How I Spent my Summer Vacation – Essay 6 (800 Words)

Summer vacation is the most awaited time of the year, by the students. With almost a year of classes, schedules, tests and examinations, behind them, they look forward to a joyous and relaxed month. Summer vacation could be spent in many ways, depending on your choices and preferences. Some like to play, some to visit places, while some prefer watching TV and their favorite movies.

I personally dislike watching TV, even when my parents don’t object. My heart craves for the woods and the serenity of nature, away from the hustle bustle of everyday existence. I have always wanted to visit forests and other similar landscapes in the lap of nature.

Below I have narrated a journey to a few of such places, that I took during my last summer vacation. Though, I returned and joined school thereafter, the memories of the journey and the places are deeply engraved in my heart.

The journey started with a visit from my town to my ancestral village and then to a wildlife reserve, which, I am sure you too will plan to go this vacation, after going through my experiences.

At Village with my Grandparents

The journey began on the next day of my summer vacation. These arrangements were made well in advance by my father, supposedly when I was preparing for my exams. When I came back home after writing my last exam, my mother and sister were already packing for the journey. Though, I knew that we were going to visit our grandparent’s village and staying there for a couple of days; I had no idea about the further planned trip.

The journey to the village was smooth one. We started well ahead to the train’s arrival time and reached the platform before its arrival time. It is a three hours of train journey from my city to the grandparent’s village, passing through lush green agricultural fields and glimpses of village life.

When we got down from the train, I saw my grandfather waving at us and walking towards us, accompanied by my cousins. After exchanging initial greetings, we started walking towards our house which was a couple of kilometers from the station. Though, there is a road to reach the house, we rather took rather secluded trails, passing through the fields.

There is something mesmerizing about an Indian village, the cool breeze, the peace and calm, the smell and sound of cattle and the distant sound of a pumping set from the fields, entices you and make you cherish every passing moment of it.

The food, milk and even water, everything tastes so much better in village than in the city. We stayed at village for four days, during which I met many of my relatives, elders and friends from the village. I even went to our family’s agricultural field and learnt few tips of farming. Four days passed quickly and the day soon arrived, when we had to move on a further journey. However, it appeared that there were few surprises waiting for me.

Trip to the Dudhwa National Park

When the day arrived, I was in for two surprises. Firstly, that we were going to “Dudhwa National Park” and secondly that my grandparents were also going with us.

Dudhwa tiger reserve is a protected area spanning over 1280 sq Km in the state of Uttar Pradesh. It stretches across the districts of Lakhimpur Kheri and Bahraich, sharing the northeastern boundary with Nepal.

We boarded on the train to Bareilly from Varanasi, which was an unforgettable overnight journey, spent with family and like minded wildlife enthusiast, travelling to the same destination as us. From Bareilly we took a connecting train to Dudhwa, which is approximately at a distance of 12 kilometers.

We reached the park in evening and stayed in a simple yet comfortable resort, having all the comforts and basic amenities. The staff was very helpful and the food simply delicious. The resort was surrounded by forest on all sides and was securely fenced and well guarded. We fell to sleep listening to the voices of jungle fowls and animals coming from a distance.

Next morning we all woke up early and got ready for the jungle safari. The safari was organized by the forest department, in open roof bus, with a guard and an experienced guide onboard. As soon as we entered the forest, we started seeing birds and animals, which we have only seen in books and television. Birds like Bengal Florican and great slaty woodpecker were a delight to watch. Different species of lizards were also seen crawling to cover.

As we progressed deeper, many species of deer- swamp deer, barasingha and chital came into view.  We were also lucky enough to spot barking deer, which is very difficult to spot due to its shy nature. On our third and last day we were lucky enough to spot a tiger lurking in the bushes. With this last sighting our journey came to an end and we headed back home on the same evening.

Summer vacation is the best time of the year in any student’s life. A month or more of fun time at your disposal is nothing less than a blessing. There are number of ways to spend a summer vacation, although we must spend it in such a way, so that we learn new things and gain new experiences. Also, take care to not to harm or disregard anyone during your enjoyment.

Essay on an Excursion

Excursions are a must, especially for students. They have a great educational value. That is why schools often organize excursions for the students. Apart from educating students and exposing them to various experiences, it is a great means of recreation. It is the day all students wait for eagerly.

My class was taken on an excursion last month. A bus was arranged. We sat in it and it took us to all the places we had to see. We were all very happy. We sang on our way and the bus speeded through various towns and villages. The sound of the horn was a constant irritant but we could tolerate it because we were too busy having a good singing session in the bus. We were going to Agra from Delhi.

The bus stopped on the way at a restaurant. We all got off the bus to have some refreshments. Our teachers had to take good care of us lest any body got lost. After half an hour we were on our way again. Many of my friends started feeling a little sleepy and tired.

Soon we reached Agra. We formed a line and entered the guest house where our stay had been arranged. We were to see Fatehpur Sikri and the Taj Mahal and leave for Delhi the following day. We left our luggage in the guest house, freshened up and were on our way to see the Taj Mahal. When I first set my eyes on the Taj Mahal, I was speechless. It is rightly called one of the wonders of the world. A white marble dream was before our eyes. Many students began to click cameras. I took a closer look at the work done on the marble. The inlay work which is a special feature with the artisans of Agra was visible on the walls of the Taj Mahal.

We sat down on the grass and played some games again. All this time we had the beautiful Taj in view. Time and again I would look up to glance at it. I could not resist walking around it several times. It took me long to thoroughly absorb the beauty of this masterpiece.

We left for Fatehpur Sikri after that; it was a great experience to sec the tombs of the ancient Mughal Kings and Queens. History suddenly came alive. I asked my teacher several questions to satisfy my curiosity about various details. It was a memorable trip.

We drove back home but the return journey was filled with a bit of sadness. It was the end of great two days in my school life.
