Let's talk about no-essay scholarships. Whether you've been applying to scholarships for a while or you're completely new to the scholarship process, chances are, at some point you've felt tired, frustrated, or even fully on fed-up with writing all of those essays. Finding financial aid can be a lot of work - I feel you!

A smart strategy when applying for scholarships is to mix up the types of scholarships you're applying for. But what does this actually mean?

Well, if you're familiar with the world of scholarships, you've probably discovered that there are scholarships out there of all sorts, shapes, and sizes.

Some scholarships are for small amounts (think: anywhere from $100 to a few thousand dollars) while others go for larger amounts (sometimes even full-tuition!). Some scholarships have long lists of application requirements, while others only ask you to write a sentence, upload your transcript, or fill out a form.

So, when I say "mix up the types of scholarships you're applying for", I'm saying that it's important to consider things such as scholarship type (is there an essay required?), amount (generally, scholarships with  bigger awards  are harder to earn), and category (how specific does the scholarship get in terms of matching your unique profile?).

This post covers one specific type of scholarship that I'm sure you'll enjoy incorporating into your scholarship strategy: a no-essay scholarship!

Most of these no essay scholarships are open to high school , college , and  graduate  school students, be sure to get those easy applications in, and keep your toes crossed while you get to work on some of those other more labor-intensive opportunities.

*Pro-tip - While some of these no essay scholarships currently have specific deadlines, keep them bookmarked because they often renew monthly, quarterly, or yearly!

This is in contrast with other more labor-intensive scholarships, that require a greater amount of work and time commitment (think: essays, letters of recommendation, videos, interviews).

The fact that no essay scholarships don't require a whole lot of effort (they're definitely the easiest opportunities out there!) doesn't mean that they aren't just as real as other scholarships that do have more detailed eligibility and application requirements to apply. In fact, no essay scholarships can sometimes be just as competitive as full-ride scholarships , given the fact that so many students apply for these opportunities.

At the end of the day, each and every scholarship we feature in our database and in our blog posts aims to guide students in the direction of legitimate opportunities to help you navigate the journey of paying for college.

What are some common qualities of a no essay scholarship?

The most identifiable quality of a no essay scholarship is the fact that it doesn't require an essay! Rather than asking students to upload an essay on the application page, these scholarships generally will ask for the completion of a form, or for students to upload a photo, video, or other unique type of submission. The fact that these scholarships can often be completed much more quickly and easily than other scholarships is what makes them so great.

You'll also find that the majority of no essay scholarships are open to a wide variety of students, and they usually won't have any specific eligibility requirements such as only being open to students in certain majors or with a certain minimum GPA.

Who is eligible to apply for no essay scholarships?

When it comes to eligiblity, as I mentioned just above, no essay scholarships are usually open to a wide range of students. For example, a no essay scholarship might be open to students ages 13 and older in the US, or maybe it's open to all high school students in the US. These eligibility criteria are very generous and intended to give all (or nearly all) students who want to apply an opportunity to do so.

How difficult is it to win a no essay scholarship?

Because no essay scholarships are usually open to so many different types of students, along with the fact that they often require very little effort on the part of the student (and run more like sweepstakes than real in-depth scholarships), means that they are difficult to win, and the process is unpredictable.

Luckily, because these scholarships require so little time commitment to apply, not winning one of these types of scholarships doesn't necessarily indicate that you've wasted your time applying, since it likely didn't take that much time in the first place!

How can I increase my chances of winning no essay scholarships?

No essay scholarships are open to such a wide variety of students in terms of eligible areas of study, state residency, and year in school. This, in combination with the fact that the winners for these scholarships are generally always selected at random, means that increasing your chances of winning one of these scholarships is very, very difficult.

In the spirit of full-transparency: the only way that you can actually increase your chances of winning no essay scholarships is by applying for all of them and not missing any deadlines.

For example, take Tallo's monthly no essay scholarships . They pick at least 12 winners each year, usually at the end of each month. If you want to maximize your chances of winning one of Tallo's no essay scholarships, you should set a reminder to make sure that you apply for them every month, so that you don't miss out on an opportunity to win.

Most of the no essay scholarships I've come across are for small amounts, such as $1,000. Why is this the case?

Most no-essay scholarships are for small amounts (think: $500 - $2,000) because, in comparison to other scholarships that have lots of application requirements, no-essay scholarships tend to run more like contests.

Organizations love to give back to students in any and all ways possible, and they also like to try to make student's lives easier by offering easy scholarship opportunities.

However, from the perspective of private organizations, many of them would rather save their scholarships of higher amounts to be distributed through competitive opportunities where they can select students on the basis of merit, leadership, and other qualities. That's why you'll probably never come across a full-ride scholarship that doesn't require an essay or extra submission of some sort!

Where can I find more scholarships to apply for?

There are tons of resources and places out there that you can use to find "harder" scholarships to apply for to pair with your efforts in applying to the easy ones.

The first place I recommend you go is over to the Access Scholarship Search Engine or Blog, where you can find all types of scholarships based on criteria such as home state, area of study, ethnicity, and more.

After that, I recommend you also do some surfing of the web, as well as outreach to your guidance counselor or financial aid office to help you find local scholarships and even more nuanced opportunities.

Important tips and things to keep in mind with no essay scholarships

Tip #1: apply often..

Many of these scholarships run continuously on a monthly or quarterly basis.

Set a reminder for yourself to revisit these scholarships each month and reapply to give yourself the best chance at winning one!

Tip #2: Find ways to get a leg up.

Scholarships with no essays that have any sort of additional component (like an art or video submission) will tend to give you a "leg up" because they involve more than some luck.

Take full advantage of scholarships like these by putting your best foot forward with that extra submission!

Tip #3: Make no essay scholarships one piece of the puzzle.

Scholarships with no essays should be a key component of your scholarship application strategy because of how easy they are to apply for.

However, it's important to remember they should be balanced with other scholarships that have more specific and stringent requirements.

When you apply for essay-based scholarships, you're given the opportunity to tell the committee about you, who you are and why you should be selected for the opportunity. The winners for these scholarships, unlike their no-essay counterparts, are not chosen at random, so if you choose these scholarships carefully, apply for ones that are specific to your qualities, and write strong essays, you'll have the best chances of winning at the end of the day!

General tips for applying for all kinds of scholarships

Navigating the world of scholarships can be stressful and confusing to say the least. Follow these tips to make sure you’re covering all of your bases and giving yourself the greatest possible chance at success!

#1: Get yourself organized before you dive right in.

Just like with any other part of the college / financial aid process, organization is crucial to success when it comes to searching and applying for scholarships.

My top organization-related recommendation for students is to start by creating a readily-accessible folder on your computer where you can then create subfolders for your scholarship essays, transcripts, and other application materials. This is also the place where you’ll want to house your scholarship tracker , which will help you keep track of scholarships you find, upcoming deadlines, and your overall progress.

#2: Do your brainstorming.

You likely wouldn’t start an essay on the American Revolution without doing some initial brainstorming and planning first. The same rule should apply for when it’s time to search for scholarships.

Sit down with a pen and paper or a blank word document open, and start to bullet out a list of traits and things that you feel make up who you are as a person. These things should be both academic and personal. To give you an idea of what I’m talking about, here’s a sneak peek into what my own personal list might look like:

-I am from New Jersey

-I am a business student with an interest in marketing

-I like to play sports (tennis, basketball, etc)

-I hold leadership positions in my extracurriculars

-I identify as female

-I am a twin

-I am left-handed

-I enjoy doing crossword puzzles

-I go to college in Wisconsin

I could go on and on with this list, but I won’t bore you! What I’m trying to get at though is that creating a list like this to track your hobbies, academic pursuits, and other things that make up who you are can be incredibly helpful in allowing you to find scholarships that are highly specific to you.

PS - For some students, this may also fall under the initial organization step of the process, but ultimately it doesn’t matter when you do it as long as it gets done.

#3: Know where to look.

Knowing what types of scholarships you want to search for doesn’t really matter if you don’t know where to actually search for them! Here are a few ideas on where you can get started in searching for scholarships:

- Scholarship search engines like AccessScholarships.com, which allow you to search through thousands of scholarship opportunities all in one place

- Normal search engines , such as Google (the more specific you can be here, the better)

-Your school’s college prep, guidance, or financial aid page/website

- Social media (you can follow scholarship accounts and hashtags that might be relevant to help you discover local scholarships)

- Family, friends, teachers, coaches, and other people in your community who might know of local or community-based scholarships that you’re eligible for

#4: If a scholarship has an essay or additional type of submission, make sure you put your absolute best foot forward.

This is, in my opinion, the biggest key to help students see success in actually winning scholarships.

You can have a 4.0 GPA and solid letters of recommendation, but if you don’t also take the time to carefully craft, edit, and perfect the essay (or other additional submission), you’re missing out on giving the scholarship committee the opportunity to learn more about who you are as a person and why you’re a great fit to win the award.

#5: Keep those grades up.

Although this eligibility requirement can definitely vary, many scholarships require students to have at least a 2.5 or 3.0 GPA. Sometimes, the minimum requirement can be even higher, such as a 3.75/4.0.

While grades certainly aren’t the end-all-be-all, keeping your GPA up (as high as you possibly can!) will make sure that you are opening yourself up to as many opportunities as possible.

#6: Apply often.

Unfortunately, applying for scholarships is not a “one and done” process. To give yourself the highest chance at seeing success, you should apply for scholarships as often as you can, or whenever you come across an opportunity that you think is worth applying for.

Many students find it helpful to set specific goals in this area, like to apply for 3 scholarships each month. Ultimately, the goal you set should be one that is specific and realistic, based on all of the other things that you’re juggling!

#7: Ask for feedback along the way.

If you don't ever take the time to assess your weak spots, how can you possibly improve?

Asking for feedback throughout the scholarship process, whether it be from a committee, a teacher, or someone who is helping you along the way, is crucial to helping you grow and becoming a stronger applicant. 

Getting feedback is especially important when it comes to the scholarship essay piece of the puzzle. When we write and edit, we tend to overlook our own mistakes because we're so used to making them. Sometimes it takes an extra set of eyes on an essay to help lead you in the direction of success.

No-essay scholarships: To conclude...

To summarize, no-essay scholarships can be a great addition to any overall scholarship strategy for high school, college, and graduate students.

Since no-essay scholarships often operate on a monthly or quarterly basis, you can give yourself a better chance at winning these scholarships if you enter in every application period that you're eligible for.

Although no-essay scholarships usually aren't for large amounts, the process of entering to win is usually an easy one, so there's no harm in applying for these scholarships to round out your strategy and yes, give you a break from all those essays!

20 No Essay Scholarships You Should Apply For

With the rising cost of higher education, it’s important to secure as much financial aid for school as possible. You may not realize it, but you probably already qualify for dozens of scholarships.  You may be a competitor for awards because of your strong GPA, academic area of interest, hobbies, or even because you graduated high school in a particular county.

While there are many scholarships that require you to submit a long list of supporting documentation, not all applications are so taxing. The list below offers information on 20 scholarships that do not require you to write a personal essay or statement of academic goals.

Here are a couple of things to consider while compiling your no essay scholarship applications. Bear in mind that even no essay scholarships will require you to submit at least a few important documents. Be sure that you meet all of the submission requirements for each scholarship, as each one will ask for specific information. If you don’t submit all of the required documents, they may toss out your application. 

Secondly, in addition to searching for scholarship opportunities at the local level and students in your county, state, or region, do not overlook scholarships that offer smaller awards. No matter the size of the scholarship, all of the money you receive means taking on less debt through loans or paying out of pocket.

1. Richard J. Seif Technical Sales and Marketing Scholarship

This $3,000 award is reserved for learners pursuing a bachelor’s degree in business or engineering with a concentration in marketing or sales. Applicants should possess a 2.5 or higher GPA and be U.S. or Canadian citizens. This one is closed for the year but will reopen again in early 2024 so mark your calendars!

2. Honeywell Scholarship

Offered by the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), this award is for students in a graduate or undergraduate program preparing for a career in computer science , engineering , or engineering technology. Awards range from $1,000-$15,000. Applicants must identify as women and be enrolled in an ABET-accredited program. Applications will be open in December and February and are due in February or May, depending on the applicant’s grade level.

3. Reisher Scholars Program

The Reisher Scholars Program offers both merit- and need-based scholarships for sophomores and transfer students in Colorado. Awards range from $4,000-$11,000, with the average being $7,984. Applicants should be full-time students at one of the seven Reisher partner universities 3.0 or higher GPA. Application due dates vary depending on the student’s institution.

4. Alwin B. Newton Scholarship

The $5,000, one-year Newton Scholarship requires applicants to possess a 3.0 or higher or be in the top 30% of their class. Applications must include three letters of recommendation and documents that demonstrate the student’s financial need. Applications are due on December 1 for awards granted the following fall semester.

5. Welder Training Scholarship

This $2,500 award is reserved for students studying welding engineering. Applicants must be at least 18 years old with a 3.0 or higher GPA and enrolled in a four-year undergraduate welding engineering technology program. Applicants must include two letters of recommendation and be submitted by November 30, 2023. 

6. Tang Scholarship

Established by Edward C. Tang, this scholarship is designed to help Asian and Pacific Islander students who identify as part of the LGBTQIA+ community . Up to four awards are given each year, with each award being up to $15,000. Applicants must have graduated from a high school located in one of the nine Bay Area counties with a 3.0 or higher GPA. This application is closed for the 2023-2024 academic year, but should reopen in early 2024. Applications are due in April.

7. Western Digital Scholarship Program

This award is reserved for any undergraduate student who is a biological dependent of a Western Digital employee. Applicants must be enrolled, or plan on enrolling, in a four-year college or university program as a full-time student. Competitive applicants possess a 3.0 or higher GPA. Awards range from $2,000-$5,000. The application opens in January and is usually due at the beginning of April.

8. Cathay Bank Foundation Scholarship Program

The foundation offers up to 20 scholarships of $1,000 to outstanding high school seniors each year. Applicants must reside in California, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Texas, or Washington. The need-based award is for learners who plan on attending a four-year program in one of the states previously listed and possess a 3.0 or higher cumulative high school GPA. Applications are due at the beginning of April each year.

9. James R. Bullock Scholarship

Reserved for students residing in North Carolina, South Carolina, or Georgia, the Bullock Scholarship is a one-year award for undergraduates in architectural or mechanical engineering worth up to $5,000. Applicants should possess a 3.0 or higher GPA or be in the top 30% of their class. Applications are due by December 1, 2023.

10. Project Grant

Offered by the Connecticut Space Grant Consortium, the Project Grant is worth up to $1,000. The award is designed to offset the cost of materials for students completing their senior capstone projects or undergraduate research projects. Applicants need a 3.0 or higher GPA and must be enrolled at a Consortium Member Institution. Applications are open in January for spring scholarships, and in September for fall scholarships. 

11. Coca-Cola Scholars Program

Prospective recipients must be current high school students in one of the 50 states or Puerto Rico with a 3.0 or higher GPA. Applicants must have plans to attend a degree-granting, accredited college or university in the U.S. Up to 150 scholars are chosen each year for this $20,000 award. Applications will be open from August 1-October 2, 2023 for students who will graduate during the 2023-2024 academic year.

12. ASHRAE General Scholarship

The ASHRAE General Scholarship award is worth $5,000. Applicants must be full-time undergraduate engineering or pre-engineering students with a 3.0 or higher GPA at an ABET-accredited institution. Applications must include official academic transcripts and three signed letters of recommendation. Applications are due by December 1, 2023.

13. Tennessee HOPE Scholarship

Funded by the proceeds from the Tennessee State Lottery, this award is for new college freshmen enrolling in one of 16 eligible colleges or universities in the state. The award is for $1,500-$2,250 per semester, depending on whether the student is attending a two- or four-year school. Students with a 3.0 or higher GPA planning to pursue a bachelor’s or associate degree are eligible to apply. Standardized test scores may be required. Applications are due by September 1 each year.

14. Children of Veterans Tuition Grant

Applicants must be biological or adopted 16-26-year-old children of veterans living in Michigan. Their veteran parents must have passed away or become disabled as a result of their military service. Applicants should have a 2.25 or higher GPA and be enrolled at least half-time at a participating institution in Michigan. Full-time students can receive up to $2,800 per academic year. The application deadline varies per year.

15. Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program

Applicants must be Florida residents and a U.S. or eligible citizen to apply. Prospective recipients must have graduated from a Florida high school with a 3.0 or higher GPA. Applications must include documentation of at least 75 hours of community service. Competitive ACT or SAT scores are also required. This award is worth up to $212.71 per credit hour. Applications are due by August 31 after high school graduation.

16. The Scott McClean Love Scholarship

This award is for undergraduate learners with a 2.0 or higher GPA who are children of former U.S. Army personnel. Eligible students have graduated high school, currently attending a college or university, and are 24 years old or younger. Awards range from $500-$2,000 per year. Applications open every January and close in April.

17. Robert W. White, Sr. Scholarship

The Robert W. White, Sr. Scholarship is for full-time students who are juniors or seniors in a four-year welding engineering degree program. Applicants must be at least 18 years old with a 3.2 or higher GPA. This need-based scholarship requires proof of financial need and is renewable for up to two years. The $2,500 award may be used for tuition and fees only. Applications are due by March 1 each year. 

18. Pearl Scholarship

The Pearl Scholarship is for students in Oregon who have lived or remain in foster care and want to attend a public college or university in the state . The award is for those interested in studying health sciences. Applicants should be 26 years old or younger and plan to enroll at least half-time in school. The amount awarded varies per year. Applications are open from November - March for the upcoming academic year. 

19. General Mills Internship and Scholarship

This program is open to graduate students enrolled in a food science program who want to take on a paid summer research and development internship. The scholarship portion of the award is worth $4,800 for one academic year. Prospective recipients should have a 3.0 or higher GPA and must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program for fall 2022 to be eligible. Applications are due by September 30. 

20. Scholarship America Dream Award

Applicants for the American Dream Award must be 17 years of age or older with at least one year of college completed. Prospective recipients must be currently enrolled as a full-time student in an associate or bachelor’s degree program with a 3.0 or higher GPA. These awards are need-based and worth between $5,000-$15,000. The application will reopen February 2024.

Uncommon Student Award

Overview: The Herbert Hoover Uncommon Student Award is a $10,000 scholarship program for Iowa high school juniors. The program is designed to attract students who are motivated and community minded. The award, which honors Herbert Hoover, an Iowa native and the 31st President of the United States, identifies approximately 15 Iowa high school juniors who propose and then accomplish projects of their own design. The projects the students propose should demonstrate the values that Herbert Hoover exemplified in his life of public service.

USG Reflection Scholarship

Overview: To help students pursue this level of achievement, they would like to financially assist those who wish to attend college. The Morgan Levine Dolan Community Service Scholarship seeks to help applicants who are team players and have experience playing sports in high school or volunteering for community services in their local communities.

Alexander de Guia Memorial Scholarship

Award Amount: 5 winners, $1,020 each

Overview: This scholarship seeks to support students from the Philippines or with Filipino heritage who are leaders in their communities.

Any immigrant or child of immigrants from the Philippines who is in high school or studying at a two-year community college and planning to transfer may apply for this scholarship if they have at least a 3.5 GPA and community service and/or leadership experience.

Pierson Family Scholarship for U.S. Studies

Overview: This scholarship aims to support international students who want to pursue higher education in the United States.

Any high school or undergraduate student who is from a low-income background, an international and/or non-US citizen and has at least a 3.5 GPA may apply for this scholarship, but those from Nigeria, Ethiopia, and Rwanda are preferred.

Rev. Frank W. Steward Memorial Scholarship

Award Amount: $1,370

Overview: As students work to make a difference in the lives of others through their careers and through volunteer work, they can live rich and meaningful lives. The Rev. Frank W. Steward Memorial Scholarship will honor Frank’s legacy and encourage students to continue persevering through challenges in order to make the world a better place.

High school seniors in Florida are eligible to apply if they have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and have volunteer experience.

To apply, write about how you plan to use your career to make a difference, and explain how you plan to overcome obstacles that come your way as you pursue your educational goals.

Spirit of Giving Scholarship

Overview: The Spirit of Giving Scholarship is available to high school seniors and current college students. You must submit an essay of between 500 and 750 words on one of the following three topics in order to be considered for this award: How have you advanced the spirit of giving in your community or abroad either through service or in giving? How has the spirit of giving affected you personally? How will your college or post-secondary education allow you to be of service to others or give to others?

  The Barron Prize

Deadline: April 15, 2024

Overview: The Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes celebrates inspiring, public-spirited young people from diverse backgrounds all across North America. Each year, the Barron Prize honors 25 outstanding young leaders ages 8 to 18 who have made a significant positive difference to people and the environment.

Christianson Grant

Deadline: Annual deadlines: March 15, July 15, October 15.

Award Amount: Up to $10,000

Overview: The Christianson Grant is awarded to motivated young Americans who create and carry out their own meaningful service projects abroad. Grantees also share their experiences via regular blog posts about their project and a completion report in order to further international understanding and promote cultural awareness.

Horatio Alger Association National Scholarship

Deadline: The undergraduate application will be available from December 1, 2023 – March 15, 2024.

Overview: The Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans is dedicated to the simple but powerful belief that hard work, honesty and determination can conquer all obstacles. As such, the Association honors the achievements of outstanding individuals in our society who have succeeded in spite of adversity and who are committed to supporting young people in pursuit of increased opportunities through higher education.

Jesse Brown Memorial Youth Scholarship Program

Deadline: The application period for 2023 is now closed. We are now accepting applications for our 2024 scholarships.

Award Amount: Up to $20,000

Overview: Service is the cornerstone of DAV’s mission of empowering veterans to lead high-quality and fulfilled lives. But we would not be able to serve our nation’s heroes without thousands of dedicated youth volunteers across the country. Ocean Awareness Contest

Overview: The 2022 Ocean Awareness Contest theme WATER RISING challenges students to explore and understand their connection to water, and to creatively communicate the need to protect this vital resource. What are the stories we need to tell about water to sustain and conserve it for current and future generations of life on Earth?

Stephen J. Brady Stop Hunger Scholarships

Deadline: The annual  application  period is October 5-December 5.

Overview: A program recognizes student innovation and youth-led solutions to fight hunger in the U.S. These young people are creating awareness and mobilizing peers in their communities to be catalysts for change. The scholarship awardees comprise a wide variety of students, ages 5 to 25, who are recognized at the national and regional level and hail from across the country. A program that recognizes students who are driving awareness and mobilizing youth to be catalysts for innovative models that provide solutions to eliminate hunger in the U.S. Scholarship winners receive a $5,000 scholarship and a $5,000 grant for their hunger-related charity.

Scholars Helping Collars Scholarship

Deadline: February 26, 2024

Overview: The Scholars Helping Collars Scholarship is available to high school seniors. To be considered, you must submit an essay detailing your volunteer efforts to help animals in need, and how that involvement has changed your life or shaped your perceptions on the importance of animal welfare.

Spirit of Youth Scholarship Fund

Deadline: The application deadline for the Spirit of Youth Scholarship for Junior members is March 1 of each year.

Award Amount: Awards Vary

Overview: The Spirit of Youth Scholarship Fund is an umbrella that supports three separate scholarship opportunities for participants in American Legion Auxiliary programs. One is for American Legion Auxiliary Junior members; another is for the Honorary National Junior President; and one is for participants in the American Legion Auxiliary Girls Nation program.

Point Foundation Scholarship

Deadline: December 21, 2023

Award Amount: Students accepted into the program will receive between $2,000-$4,800 in scholarship support.

Overview: Point Foundation (Point) is the nation’s largest scholarship-granting organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) students of merit. Point promotes change through scholarship funding, mentorship, leadership development, and community service training.

CINTAS Foundation Fellowship in Creative Writing

Overview: Since 1963, the CINTAS Foundation has awarded over 81 fellowships in creative writing. In addition to supporting Cuban artists, many early in their careers, the CINTAS Foundation also maintains a growing collection of works by past awardees and other esteemed Cuban artists. For the purpose of historical value and documentation, award recipients are encouraged to submit creative writings sample, signed book, or other such representative samples of their work to be added to the CINTAS Fellows Collection after the grant period.

2022 Young Writer Award

Overview: The Page Turner Young Writer Award 2022 is open to any writer aged between 18 and 25. Our judging panel below includes literary agents looking for young writers to represent and publishers looking for young writers to publish. Overview: The Bill Walsh scholarship, in honor of the late editor, author, and ACES guiding spirit. The winner — a student who demonstrates excellence in the editing of news — receives $3,500 plus financial aid to attend the ACES national conference.

Des Moines Women’s Club Literature Scholarship

Award Amount: $2,000

Applicant must be a graduating high school senior who will be pursuing a major or minor degree in Literature, Language Arts, Journalism, Writing, or Language Education at a college, university, or conservatory.

Applicant may only apply for one Des Moines Women’s Club scholarship per year.

Applicant must be a legal resident of or a registered student in Polk, Boone, Dallas, Jasper, Madison, Marion, Story, or Warren County.

Nelson Cabinetry Scholarship

Award: $1,500

Creative Scholarships

A creative mind can give a student the opportunity to create beauty in the world around them, whether that be through art or music or dancing. Any high school student with an interest in pursuing photography is encouraged to apply for this scholarship.

To apply, submit a collection of 3-5 images from your photography portfolio that relate to one another in a way that is entirely up to you. Editing is allowed as long as the integrity of the subjects photographed are maintained.

Lewis Hollins Memorial Art Scholarship

Overview: All students who are pursuing art are welcome to apply, though those who practice watercolor, are underrepresented minorities or are part of the LGBTQ+ community are encouraged to apply. By investing in their artistic pursuits, we seek to foster an inclusive and vibrant creative landscape, showcasing the richness of their perspectives. Overview: Fall Deadline: Sept. 15. Okay, Female high school and college students, here is your time to debut your online business ambitions. There are open-ended questions on the application, but it’s more like a friendly conversation. The questions ask you about your concerns and your role models. If you don’t get excited about writing an essay, try your hand at mapping a business plan.

National YoungArts Foundation

Deadline: The 2025 YoungArts application opens in June 2024.

Award: Up to $10,000

Overview:   Writing encompasses creative nonfiction, novel, play or script, poetry, short story and spoken word. The strongest submissions demonstrate a sense of inventiveness, show attention to the complexities and technical aspects of language, and have a clear, original, and distinct point of view.

Andrew Flusche Scholarship Contest

Deadline: April 30, 2024.

Award: $500

Overview:  The Andrew Flusche Scholarship Contest requires students to raise awareness about different legal issues. Applicants must create a public service advertisement video (PSA) about how to drive courteously.

Allwork Scholarship 

Deadline: March 18, 2024

Overview:  This merit-based scholarship supports architecture students with demonstrated financial need. Students must be nominated by the dean or chair of the school of architecture in which they are currently studying in order to apply for this award.

The Cover Guy 8th Annual Scholarship

Overview: Since its inception, the IRA Educational Foundation has awarded almost $2.8 million to deserving students pursuing Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management in college. To qualify for a scholarship, you must be a permanent resident of the State of Illinois (under the age of 30); be accepted and plan to enroll in an accredited culinary school, college, or university; be enrolled as a full-time or substantial part-time student, taking a minimum of 9 credit hours each term and major in a culinary, restaurant management, or food service related program. CBC Spouses Visual Arts Scholarship

Achieve Today Scholarship Fund

Overview: Entries must be submitted by December 31 for the spring semester and August 31 for the fall semester at midnight. The winning applicant will be selected within two weeks after the deadline. The scholarship will be applied to to current semesters tuition. Submit a video or audio of three to five minutes OR submit an essay of no fewer than 800 words on personal development or high performance. College Photographer of the Year Award

Overview: Student photographers are invited to enter the College Photographer of the Year contest. Applicants must be undergraduate or graduate students enrolled for at least one semester, trimester or quarter between September and December at any college or university, and who have not worked 2 or more cumulative years as a full-time photographer, videographer, audio reporter or multimedia producer, including paid internships. AIGA Worldstudio Scholarships

Deadline: Each year, the application cycle opens in February and closes in April.

Overview: AIGA Worldstudio Scholarships benefit underrepresented and economically disadvantaged students who are studying photography, illustration, and design disciplines in colleges and universities in the United States. Scholarships are awarded annually to encourage social and environmental responsibility and cultural awareness in the next generation of artists and designers.

Autumn House Poetry Contest

Deadline: The submission period opens January 1, 2024, and closes May 31, 2024

Overview: The winner will receive book publication, a $1,000 honorarium, and a $1,500 travel/publicity grant to promote their book. All finalists will be considered for publication. Poetry submissions should be approximately 50-80 pages. Each new poem should start on a new page. Illustrations are strongly discouraged

The Virginia Budge Award for the Creative and Performing Arts

Ruth Clark Furniture Design Scholarship

Award: $3,000

Overview: The Ruth Clark Furniture Design Scholarship was established by the Carolinas Chapter to honor Ruth Clark, one of the chapter’s founding members. Ruth Clark, an IFDA Fellow, graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design. During her career, she designed upholstered furniture for several companies, and many of her designs have become classics in the industry. She mentored design students and young professionals in the field, served as Carolinas Chapter President and received the prestigious IFDA National Honorary Recognition Award in 1994. Tricia LeVangie Green/Sustainable Design Scholarship

Overview: The Tricia LeVangie Green/Sustainable Design Scholarship was established by the New England Chapter to honor the late Tricia LeVangie, an active and committed IFDA New England member. The scholarship is for an undergraduate student focusing on the evolving green/sustainable field of study. Sustainable design is the development of innovative ways to create living spaces that are energy efficient and feature green/sustainable materials, fabrications and products. The student applying for this scholarship is planning to become an educated participant in the green movement. Paying equal attention to both sustainability factors and design aesthetics, the student should be demonstrating creative use of green products and eco-friendly furnishings in class projects. Overview:    Ty Gaulden was the first commissioner of Dizzy Dean Baseball and a national director from Alabama, Mr. Gaulden served until his death in 1980. This scholarship shall be awarded by the National Board of Directors, under such rules and conditions as it may determine, provided however, that only those players who participate in the program of the corporation who are in need of financial help shall be eligible. Overview:  In 2008, OAR introduced the Schwallie Family Scholarship to support the post-secondary, undergraduate education of qualified individuals with an autism spectrum diagnosis. Schwallie Family Scholarships are supported through generous gifts from the family of former Board member, Ed Schwallie. In 2013, we announced the Lisa Higgins Hussman Scholarship Program, an expansion of our scholarship program that benefits students attending any of the types of institutions that fall under the Schwallie Family Scholarship Program criteria, as well as any of the growing number of certificate and life skills/transition programs in the country. Why has student loan debt increased?

The student loan crisis has spiked in recent years, i ncreasing by 107% since 2008. A factor that has contributed to this increase is the rising tuition rates that wages have not kept up with. The average cost of a Bachelor’s degree has increased by 25% since the 2008 recession.

 In decades prior, it was feasible for students to pay their tuition simply by working, reducing the need for loans. Today, around 70% of full-time college students work, yet 69% of first-year college students in 2019 took out student loans, showing that working doesn't provide enough income for most students to pay for college out of pocket.

On average, people with loans owe nearly $33,000 each, and most owe between $20,000 to $40,000. However, many borrowers owe significantly more than this, with over 3 million people owing more than $100,000, including 800,000 borrowers who owe over $200,000.

Is student loan debt equally distributed?

Average student loans across demographics reflect both racial and gender-based gaps. The average white borrower owes roughly $30,000 as compared to Black borrowers who owe around $34,000 on average. White borrowers also repay loans at more than twice the rate than that of Black borrowers. This difference in the amount of loan debt perpetuates the racial wealth gap, making it easier for white students to repay loans and begin saving post-graduation.

In addition to the racial gap in student loans, there is a prominent gender gap that disadvantages women. While there are currently more women enrolled in colleges than men, making up around 56% of college students, women hold a disproportionate amount of student debt.

As a group, women hold about two-thirds of the national student loans, which equals nearly $929 billion. Since women also tend to make less money than men after graduation, this unequal amount of debt is even harder to pay off.

Due to the discrepancies in student debt distribution, there are many scholarships available exclusively for students from disadvantaged groups. While we certainly believe students should take this time to resume sports and catch up with old friends they’ve missed during summer break, we also know it’s a great time for undergraduate students to knock out some applications for scholarships.

Here is a list of 23  scholarships  to apply for this fall. Some deadlines are as late as November 30th. Either way,  these next few weeks are major deadline weeks , so you don’t want to miss out!

Beldon offers this scholarship annually and selects two winners, each receiving a $1,000 scholarship. Students must write an essay on a topic chosen by Beldon, and submissions can be sent via email or regular mail.

The Key Thinkers Scholarship focuses on academic achievement. Along with awarding a scholarship in the fall, there’s also a spring award period to give students more ways to secure funding for college.

• Eligibility: Scholarship is open to U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents who are enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited college, university, or trade school in the United States
• GPA Requirement: 3.0 GPA or Higher

Just Poetry Scholarship

For this scholarship, students don’t need to submit an essay. Instead, it requires a poem no more than 20 lines long (not including the title or spaces between stanzas). Students can submit their applications through the link on the page or regular mail. Winners will receive a scholarship and a copy of the Just Poetry Quarterly that features their poems.

Digital Responsibility Scholarship

This scholarship focuses on a core message about the dangers of texting and driving. Students must write a short pledge stating that they won’t text and drive and their reasons for choosing not to participate in that risky behavior.

For this scholarship, one of the key eligibility requirements is that students provide a letter from a physician that states they suffer from a cardiac condition. A personal statement and a minimum GPA of 3.0 are also required.

1. HSF Scholar Program

Amount: $500-$5,000

Deadline: Passed, but will reopen in 2024

Eligibility:

• Must be of Hispanic heritage
• U.S. citizen, permanent legal resident, or DACA
• Minimum of 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) for high school students; minimum of 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) for college and graduate students

While the Hispanic Scholarship Fund provides awards to students of all majors, special consideration is given to those pursuing degrees in science, technology, engineering, and math. 2. The Gates Scholarship

Amount: Full cost of attendance that is not covered by other financial aid and the expected family contribution, as determined by the FAFSA

3. LNESC/NBCUniversal Media Scholarship

• A college sophomore or junior enrolled full-time in an accredited college or university
• At least 18 years of age or older
• Have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or the equivalent

4. TheDream.US National Scholarship

Amount: $33,000 for a bachelor’s degree at a partner college

• Are undocumented and came to the United States before November 1, 2017, and have continuously lived in the United States since then or have DACA or TPS
• Came to the United States before the age of 16 (if you were born in the U.S., you are not eligible for this scholarship)
• Have significant unmet financial need

Applicants are assessed based on their academic performance and their commitment to community service. 5. Chicana Latina Foundation Leadership and Scholarship Program

Amount: $1,500

Deadline: Passed, but will reopen on January 1, 2024

• Self-identify as a Chicana and/or Latina
• Be enrolled in an accredited college, university, or community college in one of the following California counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Monterey, Napa, Sacramento, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Solano, San Francisco, Sonoma, or Yolo
• Have lived at least two (2) years in one of the above Northern California counties at the time of application
• Be enrolled in a full-time college student (as defined by your institution) for the 2023-2024 Academic Year.

Every year, Chicana Latina Foundation selects 40-45 students to participate in their Leadership & Scholarship Program, which comes with a $1,500 scholarship. Selected students will attend all of CLF’s Leadership Institute sessions in August 2023 and February 2024, as well as the CLF Annual Award Dinner in January 2024. They must also complete 10 hours of outreach on their respective campuses as CLF Ambassadors during the application cycle.

6. Next Day Animations Illustrating Awesomeness Scholarship

Amount: 4 awards of $750

Deadline: Passed, but will reopen in Fall 2023

• Must be young women or gender non-conforming individuals of color who are currently enrolled or who will begin college/university in the spring semester

7. American Chemical Society Scholars Program

9. The Actuarial Foundation Actuarial Diversity Scholarship

Amount: $1,000-$4,000 ($1,000 in freshman year with an increase of $1,000 every subsequent year until senior year)

The BLM² Scholarship Foundation was established in 2014 to help minority high school seniors pursue higher education. Their Scholarship Program is designed to address the financial needs of minority college students and award outstanding high school graduates—who plan to earn a baccalaureate degree from an accredited, four-year college or university—with financial assistance.

11. José Martí Scholarship Challenge Grant Fund

Amount: $2,000 annually

• Submit a completed, error-free Florida Financial Aid Application (FFAA)
• Be of Spanish culture, born in or having a natural parent who was born in either Mexico or a Hispanic country of the Caribbean, Central or South America, regardless of race. Students of the following countries are not considered for an evaluation of this scholarship: Brazil, Spain, and Haiti.
• Minimum unweighted cumulative GPA of 3.0
• Demonstrate a minimum of $2,000 in financial need by timely completing and submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in time to be processed error-free by the U.S. Department of Education on or before May 15, 2023.
• Be a Florida resident and a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen. A student’s residency and citizenship status are determined by the postsecondary institution.
• Not owe a repayment or be in default under any state or federal grant, loan, or scholarship program unless satisfactory arrangements to repay have been made
• Not have previously earned a baccalaureate degree
• Enroll as a degree-seeking student at an eligible postsecondary institution and enroll each academic term for a minimum of 12 credit hours for undergraduate study or 9 credit hours for graduate study

Application Requirement: Florida Financial Aid Application (FFAA)

Named for Cuban poet and national hero, José Martí, the José Martí Scholarship Challenge Grant Fund is a need-based merit scholarship that provides financial assistance to eligible students of Hispanic origin who will attend Florida public or eligible private institutions. 

Applicants are ranked first by highest need as determined by the FAFSA, second by the highest GPA, and third by application submission date. First priority is given to renewal applicants.

12. McDonald’s HACER National Scholarship

Amount: Up to $100,000

Deadline: Application opens Fall 2023

• Younger than 21 years old
• Legal U.S. resident or a DREAMer/DACA recipient
• High school seniors with a minimum 2.8 GPA who are eligible to attend a two- or four-year college or university with a full-time course of study
• Must disclose other scholarship programs that you’ve applied for
• Will enroll in and attend an accredited institution in the academic year after your selection (verification needed, as scholarship funds are paid directly to the schools)

This award celebrates talented young people with at least one parent of Hispanic descent. To be competitive, students should have performed well academically despite limited access to educational resources. Scholarships start at $5,000 for Tier 3 recipients. Tier 2 recipients will receive $10,000 or $20,000, and Tier 1 recipients are awarded up to $100,000.

13. Café Bustelo El Café del Futuro Scholarship

Amount: $5,000

• Full-time undergraduate or graduate students of Latino descent
• Open to all majors
• Must be 18 years or older
• Currently enrolled at a HACU-member institution within the United States, D.C., and Puerto Rico
• Internet access and a valid e-mail address are required to apply
• 800-word essay about your Latino heritage

Through this generous scholarship award, Café Bustelo is investing in the Latino community. This scholarship fund is intended to help those who are seeking better futures for themselves, their families, and their communities. 

College students with a passion for learning and community involvement are asked to write an essay (in English or Spanish) detailing how their heritage, family, and community have impacted their desire and motivation to obtain a college degree, how they plan to give back to their community, and what they intend to accomplish with their degree.

14. The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Inclusion Scholarship

Amount: $10,000

• Pursuing a career in any aspect of the television industry
• Identify as Black, indigenous, or a person of color

The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS)—the organization that created the Emmy Awards—is dedicated to the advancement of television and related electronic media. To that end, they award scholarships to high school seniors intending to pursue a communications degree with an emphasis on any aspect of the television industry.

The Inclusion Scholarship is awarded to students pursuing careers in the television industry who identify as Black, indigenous, or a person of color.

15. Prospanica Scholarship Program

• Be a United States citizen, legal permanent resident, or DACA recipient
• Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent) OR have a minimum 2.75 GPA on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent) in combination with work experience during that time
• Have a Prospanica membership – Member ID required. Prospanica is offering a 50% discount on student membership during the preliminary round, using code 2023SCHOLAR.
• Be enrolled or planning to enroll in a postgraduate (Master’s or PhD) or undergraduate program in an accredited university business school (in the U.S. or Puerto Rico). If applying for the undergraduate awards, the applicant must currently be a college sophomore or higher.

Prospanica was founded to empower and enable Hispanic professionals to achieve their full potential—educationally, economically, and socially. 16. Hispanic Heritage Foundation Youth Awards

• Be currently enrolled in high school and graduating in the spring of 2023

The Youth Awards, founded in 1998 by the Hispanic Heritage Foundation, celebrates high-achieving Latino high school seniors for their excellence in the classroom and the community.

Students who work in various categories are recognized. These categories include Business & Entrepreneurship, Community Service, Education, Engineering, Green Sustainability, Healthcare & Science, Media & Entertainment, Public Service & Social Justice, and Technology. Awardees receive a one-time grant to fund their college education or to fund a community service project that addresses a social issue.

17. Study Abroad Scholarship in BiH for American Minority Students

Amount: $500-$2,000

• Be an American undergraduate or graduate student
• Be of African American, Hispanic American, or Native American descent
• Be accepted into a university program in Bosnia and Herzegovina, enroll in a university-accredited language program, or participate in a faculty-led study tour to Bosnia and Herzegovina

The Turkish Coalition of America (TCA) has designated Bosnia and Herzegovina as a study abroad destination under its TCA Study Abroad Scholarship Program for American Minority Students. Through this program, TCA provides up to 100 scholarships—of $500 to $2,000—per year to eligible American undergraduate and graduate minority students who are accepted to study for a semester or a year at a university in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

18. LULAC National Scholarship Fund

Amount: Up to $2,000

Deadline: Application opens February 2024

• U.S. citizen, legal permanent resident, or DACA
• Must have applied to or be enrolled as a full-time student in a college or university, including 2-year colleges, or vocational schools that lead to an associate’s degree. Graduate students must have applied to or be enrolled as a part-time student in a college or university.
• Students will not be eligible for a scholarship if related to a scholarship committee member, the Council President, or an individual contributor to the local funds of the Council
• Participating states will be made available on the website
• Completed and signed LNSF application form. LNSF applications must be mailed or emailed directly to a participating LULAC Council by March 31
• High school or college transcript, including cumulative GPA

The LULAC National Scholarship Fund (LNSF) was created to help youth in underserved communities realize their dreams of attending college. LNSF is a partnership between grassroots advocates and big corporations that is intended to empower the Latino community through educational funding. The scholarship’s rigorous selection process ensures that the level of excellence recipients attain remains consistent.

The product of a partnership between the LULAC National Educational Service Centers (LNESC) and the ExxonMobil Foundation, the ExxonMobil Engineering Scholarship Program is intended to assist outstanding Hispanic college freshmen who plan to pursue a degree in engineering at U.S. post-secondary institutions.

One national scholarship of $20,000, paid over four years, and twelve $2,000 local scholarships will be awarded to qualified high school seniors and college freshmen.

20. American Meteorological Society Scholarship for Underserved Communities

Amount: $6,000 for two years ($3,000 per year)

• U.S. citizen or hold permanent resident status.
• Students who will be entering their freshman year of college in the fall of 2023 are eligible to apply.
• Students must plan to pursue careers in the atmospheric or related oceanic and hydrologic sciences. Marine Biology is not eligible.
• Minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
• Students eligible to apply for the AMS Scholarship for Underserved Communities may also apply to the AMS Freshman Scholarship Program but can only accept one scholarship if selected for both.

The AMS Scholarship for Underserved Communities awards funding to students who have been traditionally underrepresented in the sciences, especially Hispanic, Native American, and Black/African American students.

The American Meteorological Society (AMS) is committed to diversity in the meteorological sciences. They espouse core values of diversity, inclusion, and equity across all aspects of the atmospheric, oceanic, and hydrologic sciences.

21. La Unidad Latina Foundation Scholarships for Undergraduate and Graduate Latino Students

• Minimum GPA of 2.8 on a 4.0 GPA scale
• Enrolled on a full-time basis, in a bachelor’s program at an accredited four-year college or university. Graduates of two-year, community college students who are starting at a four-year college no later than August 2023 are also eligible to apply.
• At least one complete semester of full-time study
• Must reside in the United States at the time of application
• Residential criteria for NYS regional scholarship: Enrolled at a college or university in New York State (out-of-state residents may apply) or have a primary address in New York and attend a college or university out of state (i.e. eligible if family resides in NYS and you return to NYS for winter/spring/summer break)
• Residential criteria for GLC Mateo Gomez Memorial Scholarship: Enrolled at any college or university in the United States with a plan to pursue a study abroad, internship, or other international experience that provides exposure to Latin American culture
• 2-year, community college applicants starting at 4-year college must provide an acceptance letter from the 4-year college or university the applicant plans to attend
• Letter of recommendation describing student leadership and commitment to civic service (maximum of 250 words)
• GLC Mateo Gomez Memorial Scholarship applicants must submit a letter of approval to a study abroad or international work program. If a letter of approval is not available, then a letter on college or university letterhead from your study abroad office indicating your intent to study or work abroad.
• Only when requested by LULF: Official university-issued academic transcript(s) required and included in application

La Unidad Latina Foundation currently offers two scholarships—one for students in New York State and one for students who intend to have an international experience (including study abroad and internships) that provides exposure to Latin American culture.

Unlike many programs, this scholarship is open to almost all fields of study and degree types. The award welcomes applicants pursuing a bachelor’s degree, a Master of Arts degree, a Master of Science degree, a Master of Public Administration/Policy degree, a Master of Social Work degree, a Master of Education degree, a Master of Divinity degree, and PhDs.

22. American Association of School Personnel Administrators Leon Bradley Scholarship Program

Amount: $3,500

Funded by The American Association of School Personnel Administrators (AASPA), the 

Leon Bradley Scholarship Program awards up to two undergraduate scholarships annually. In addition to supporting minority students on their journey to becoming teachers, the program strives to ensure that all students have access to instructors from different races and ethnic backgrounds. Graduate students seeking administrative credentials may also qualify for support.

Whether you’re targeting general college grants or scholarships for Hispanic women, it’s important to do your homework. Here are some of our top tips for increasing your chances of securing a scholarship.

1. Start early

As a high school student, it’s never too early to start seeking out options for scholarships. With college tuition prices on the rise, students need all the funding they can get. Because winning scholarships is a numbers game, it’s wise to apply to as many scholarships as you can, prioritizing those that you have a good chance of securing. Look for scholarships with similar requirements, so you can limit any extra work you have to do.

2. Find a support system

Applying for scholarships can be just as arduous as applying to colleges. Therefore, it’s important to have a good support system in place to help you through the process. While friends and family can be great for moral support, you might want to go outside your inner circle by consulting teachers and guidance counselors. Along with writing recommendations if necessary, these professionals can advise you on application questions and even read over your essays and give you pointers.

3. Check your work

No matter how brilliant your essay is , if it’s full of grammatical errors, misspellings, and typos, you will not be seriously considered for a scholarship. Before sending in your application package, be sure to read over every section and answer to identify mistakes and to make sure there’s nothing you missed. If proofreading isn’t your strong suit, think about having a trusted pal look over your documents as well.

4. Apply to a mix of larger and smaller awards

If you only apply for large, established scholarships, you will be facing stiff competition. Don’t just limit yourself to scholarships with huge national awards—also look for very small local groups who may have smaller awards, but also smaller pools of candidates.

5. Research past winners

Scholarship committees—especially those working for programs that have been running for a long time—already have an idea of who and what they’re looking for. To present yourself in the best light, read about these students to get a better sense of what each particular scholarship committee wants to see.

Most scholarship pages will have a section dedicated to past winners with details on what their application was like and where they are now. If this information isn’t readily available, you can always search the web for the name of the scholarship and “past winners.”

Kenyon Writing Award

High school seniors can apply for this scholarship program at Kenyon College which offers up to $15,000 per year of merit based aid. It is based off of your portfolio and does not take into account financial need, high school GPA , or other factors. Submissions typically have to be in by January of your senior year.

Barbara Caras Memorial Scholarship for Film Students

The scholarship is open to students in Sarasota or Manatee County, Florida who have completed at least one full year at an accredited Florida College and are majoring in Film, Computer Animation, Creative Writing, Motion Design, or Illustration. Five recipients will earn a $2,000 award. The application deadline is July 31st of the current year.

Lycoming College Creative Writing Scholarship

The scholarship is open to students majoring in Creative Writing at Lycoming College, Williamsport, PA and must submit five poems and/or a short story not to exceed ten pages. Arkansas Tech University Gwaltney Scholarship

Lake Forest College Carnegie English Essay Contest

The contest is open to first-year students of Lake Forest College who plan to study English either through the literature or creative writing track and submit an essay, between 500 and 1,000 words answering a designated prompt. Four winners will be awarded $2,500 annually. Submission deadline is March 1, 2023.

Austin Peay State University Creative Writing Scholarships

The scholarships are open to undergraduate and incoming APSU students who email a 10-20 page manuscript of fiction, poetry, or creative non-fiction, to Lakota Withrow at [email protected] . Awards are for $600 or $1,200. The deadline to apply is March 18th.

CVS Health Minority Scholarship for Pharmacy Students

The application cycle for the CVS Health Minority Scholarship for Pharmacy Students program is now closed.  Meet the recipients of the 2023 scholarship.

Program Information

The CVS Health Minority Scholarship for Pharmacy Students will be awarded to five outstanding underrepresented minority (URM) students who have been accepted into a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program for the 2023-2024 (next) academic year OR were enrolled in their first (P1) year of the professional phase of the PharmD degree program during the 2022-2023 (current) academic year. URM pharmacy students are identified as Black or African American, Hispanic or Latino, American Indian, Native Hawaiian, and/or Pacific Islander students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Selected awardees must demonstrate leadership, academic success, and a commitment to advancing the profession of pharmacy and patient care. Each awardee will receive a single $8,000 scholarship .

Goal of the Program

The American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) and CVS Health are committed to fostering an inclusive community and promoting diversity of thought, background, perspective, and experience to advance pharmacy education and improve patient health. This scholarship is intended to promote and support a diverse population of student pharmacists who will care for an increasingly diverse population of patients as part of a health care team.

The CVS Health Minority Scholarship for Pharmacy Students will support the financial need of URM students who are entering into or recently enrolled in PharmD programs at AACP member institutions. The purpose of the scholarship is to reduce the financial barriers and challenges for URM students who are pursuing a PharmD degree.

Eligibility Requirements

Qualified applicants must meet the following requirements:

• 1) accepted into a PharmD program for the 2023 entering class OR
• 2) enrolled as a P1 PharmD student for the 2022 entering class.
• NOTE: Students enrolled in a 0-6 PharmD program as a P2 (out of P6) or a P3 (out of P6) student during the 2022-2023 (current) academic year are also eligible.
• Student must be a URM student. AACP identifies URM individuals in pharmacy as Black or African American, Hispanic or Latino, American Indian, Native Hawaiian, and/or Pacific Islander students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
• Students must demonstrate leadership, academic success, and a commitment to advancing the pharmacy profession and patient care.
• GPA for current degree program must be 2.0 or greater on a 4.0 scale. Applicants from schools with other grading systems are still eligible to apply for the scholarship. Refer to Task 1 of the Application Sections below.
• Student must submit a completed application by the deadline.
• If a scholarship is awarded to an accepted (not yet enrolled) pharmacy student, the award will be granted to the institution after the individual has started classes in the PharmD program. These students will be ineligible to apply for this scholarship again in the future.

Scholarship Notification

• Completed applications are due by June 1, 2023.
• Completed applications will be reviewed by July 14, 2023.
• Scholarship recipients will be notified by August 15, 2023.
• Funds will be forwarded to the student’s institution on or shortly after the start of class for Fall 2023.
• Additional information will be requested from awardees (e.g., photo) by September 1, 2023.
• AACP will announce the scholarship recipients on the AACP and Pharmacy Is Right for Me websites and social media in Fall 2023.

Scholarship Payments

A single scholarship in the amount of $8,000 each will be awarded to five (5) outstanding URM students accepted into OR currently enrolled in their first (P1) year of the professional phase of the PharmD program at the time of submission.

AACP will pay the scholarship funds for each awardee directly to the pharmacy college or school where the student has been accepted or is currently enrolled. Funds will be dispersed in fall 2023 after the 2023-2024 academic year begins. Each institution will exclusively apply the scholarship funds to the awardee’s tuition and/or fees.

The application will require the following information to be considered complete:

• Only US citizens and Permanent US Residents are eligible.
• If you are an incoming pharmacy student and have not yet selected a program, please choose "Undecided”.
• Scholarship applicants must be either (1) accepted into a PharmD program for the 2023 entering class OR (2) enrolled as a P1 PharmD student for the 2022 entering class.
• NOTE: Students enrolled in a 0-6 PharmD program as a P2 (out of P6) or a P3 (out of P6) student during the 2022-2023 academic year are also eligible.
• Please list all languages in which you are conversationally fluent.
• I graduated from a high school from which a low percentage of seniors receive a high school diploma.
• I graduated from a high school at which many of the enrolled students are eligible for free or reduced-price lunches.
• I am from a family that receives public assistance (e.g. Aid to Families with Dependent Children, food stamps, Medicaid, public housing) or I receive public assistance.
• I am from a family that lives in an area that is designated as a Health Professional Shortage Area or a Medically Underserved Area.
• I participated in an academic enrichment program funded in whole or in part by the Health Careers Opportunity Program.
• I am from a school district where 50% or less of graduates go to college or where college education is not encouraged.
• I am the first generation in my family to attend college (neither parent attended college).
• English is not my primary language.
• Does your parent’s family income fall within the table’s guidelines for economically disadvantaged?
• This information will be used for aggregate reporting purposes only and not considered in the application review process.
• View the low-income level table on the PharmCAS fee waiver page to determine if you are considered economically disadvantaged.
• Enter your GPA for your current degree program (undergraduate or Pharm.D). To be eligible for consideration, your overall GPA must be 2.0 or greater on a 4.0 scale. Please enter "N/A" if your institution does not use a 4.0 grading scale (i.e. Pass/Fail). Enter your GPA in the "X.XX" format (e.g., 3.10). Applicants from schools with other grading systems are still eligible to apply for the scholarship. If you attend an institution with a non-standard grading system, upload a PDF copy of your transcript with the grading system description included. Your resume is a very important part of your scholarship application. It will be used to help differentiate your application from others and allow you to showcase your academic and extracurricular involvement. Review the requirements below before you upload your resume.

• Save and submit your resume as a PDF.
• Limit resume to no more than 2 pages.
• If you use any acronyms, also provide the full name.
• Use headers and/or section titles to organize your resume.
• Briefly describe any leadership roles and/or involvement.
• Include length of time spent in organizations and/or leadership roles.

Describe how your life experiences as a minority student influenced your decision to pursue a pharmacy career. Select one aspect of your background or one characteristic about yourself and describe how it will contribute to your success in pharmacy and the well-being of future patients.

You are strongly encouraged to compose your essay in a separate word processor, then copy and paste as plain text into the text box. Use line breaks (the return key) to separate paragraphs. Please do NOT insert hyperlinks or other formatting. Limit essay to 750 words.

You must compose your essays using your own words and without assistance from other individuals or an artificial intelligence (AI) essay generator (e.g., ChatGPT). You are permitted to use tools to check your spelling and grammar.

Two recommendations are required for the scholarship application. Each recommender should be able to describe your attributes and how you will contribute to a successful career in pharmacy. Contact each recommender in advance, so they know to expect an email from this program.

Recommendation #1: Faculty Member

• Invite a faculty member to submit a recommendation on your behalf.
• Pharmacy and science faculty are preferred.
• Recommendations from non-teaching faculty and academic advisors are also acceptable.

Recommendation #2:

• Invite a pharmacist (preferred), pharmacy scientist, pharmacy researcher, pharmacy school faculty member, or other healthcare professional or educator to submit a letter on your behalf.

Instructions for Recommenders:

Application Review

AACP staff will determine that all applications are complete and eligibility requirements have been met, such as academic standing and student classification level. Once requirements are verified, the application will be moved through the evaluation process. An evaluation scale from zero to five or zero to ten is used for scoring each of the evaluation criterion, respectively.

AACP and CVS Health will use the following criteria by which all applications will be judged. The review team will look for well thought out, organized, articulate, and complete applications, with evidence that awardees demonstrate leadership, academic success, and a commitment to advancing the profession and patient care.

Resume (weight factor = 25)

The applicant resume is used to determine the degree to which the student has demonstrated academic involvement and engagement both on and off campus, as well as the leadership ability shown through professional, educational, and extracurricular experiences
