- Literature has many purposes, and it does everything. It strengthens the opinion, thoughts, and voice of the writer. In most cultures, literature can be used to educate, discover, express, inform, question, and even heal.
- While literature needs to change with society, writers continue to address immutable human issues in new ways and reconcile them with the ever-changing technology surrounding us.
What are the three importance of literature we can see in the 21st century?
1. get to know past lives.
History plays a fundamental role in shaping literature. Any novel, play, or poem you read hit the political context, period, or relationship from when it was written.
History also plays a decisive role in the falsification of literature. There is the essence of political or cultural history in every novel, poem, and history we go through. Sometimes, literature connects the past with the present in a fantastic way.
Being able to read something like this in person is an important aspect of studying the lives and historical epics of the characters.
2. Awakens empathy and understanding
Reading a book is one of the best ways to immerse yourself in another person’s dialogue and experiences fully. The ability to know and understand the feelings of others is a critical factor in helping you connect with different regions, races, societies, and time periods.
They assist a person in taking a closer look at different aspects of life than what they are familiar with, which can alter their perspective.
3. Opportunities and escapism
Reading can lead us to different areas and see the creative thoughts of others. It’s a fantastic resource and form of entertainment that can give us escapism.
Books can let you escape to another world and live in another place for a brief period when you’re having a terrible day, frustrated at work, or making decisions about your new life.
Novels provide insight, entertain, stimulate creativity and offer readers the opportunity to enrich our lives in many ways. But, it’s certainly much more than just words in a book.
In the 21st century, we can see the popularity of e-books, Kindle, Wattpad, and online reading is growing. They are creating dialogue, a unique world, and new perspectives.
How we can teach literature in 21st-century?
- We can use classic and modern ‘media combinations’ and place them against each other. For instance, playing poetry games on discord.
- Ask students to analyze the different media formats in terms of strengths and weaknesses and add classical and digital forms.
- Ask students to convert podcast essay videos into characters that are simply encoded in an app.
Importance Of Grammar In Literature:
Grammar in literature is important to me because it makes the reading easier, which would also make the writing better, and thus have a higher rate of being read further.
It may seem like something that people wouldn’t care too much about, but for someone who writes fiction stories, editing them upon finishing becomes essential.
If I can’t see the grammar while reading, then it becomes another story that just passed me by. No one wants that.
I enjoy editing my work for hours upon hours because of this. I want to make sure every part of the story flows together nicely and stays interesting throughout each paragraph at least, if not more. The grammar becomes a checkpoint for me, to make sure that I am doing everything I can to keep the reader’s attention.
If there are mistakes in the grammar, it becomes more difficult for the reader to follow what is happening in the story. This is why it’s so important to get it right. There are different ways to show off your talent in writing, but grammar is one of the best ways to really show how well you can tell a story.
The more important thing is that if I don’t have good grammar, then it’s harder for me to convey my ideas about different things happening in stories. If I don’t know what they are supposed to look like on the page, then that’s another chance of me messing something up.
If I mess up with grammar, then it is also easier for the reader to dismiss my ideas as nonsense. They might not realize right away, but even subconsciously there is a reaction to poor grammar because it doesn’t make sense.
A reader isn’t going to want to try and figure out what you are trying to say if the words don’t make any sense together.
If I want people to read my work, then it’s important for me to have good grammar. It keeps everything flowing smoothly, which makes it easier for them to become immersed in the story that is being told by the writer. And that is what it’s all about,

The Reason Why Literature Is Still Relevant In The 21st Century
Books has always been the beacon of life..
Literature is an art form, just like films, they hold stories, characters, and a captivating plot.
It creates a connection to the reader’s heart and soul, bridging the words to our feelings and resonating it with them.
But has Literature been widely appreciated in today’s world than it was decades ago?
Some might argue that lesser people are reading because, as technology progresses, we have made interesting ways to be entertained with stories through social media, online games, films or interactive videos.
However, there are still some people that do read books today, despite the decrease of young readers.
But the profound interests in the art of story-telling through prose and poetry, its fascinating embodiment of emotions and immersive tales, are not acknowledged or let alone appreciated enough.
It would contribute to the decay of creativity, critical thinking, reading and quite importantly, empathy, a value that is needed in this world more than ever.
The art of literature may not deem relevant with the advancement of technology.
Art has evolved over the years and now it could transition into a more interesting and sophisticated medium like Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR) or even in film. And it’s a good thing!
Those mediums are different and has its own interesting ways of conveying their stories. But literature does has its own unique benefits in today’s vast and complex world.
Here’s the reason why
It gives us time to slow down; reading a book limits the distractions of moving pixels but yet reeling us into its wonderful story. Allowing us to give ourselves the pause that is needed in our hectic and busy lives.
It allow us to perceive with our own imaginations while being entertained.
It makes us feel better and gain empathy by understanding the character’s struggles and its moving story arc, and because it isn’t portrayed on screen, we feel more than we see.
Not only does Literature help us improve our empathy, it also makes us gain valuable insights , especially stories with deep meaning that resonates with the world today.
It ensures that those insights we gain, help us better understand the world we live in.
We read and sort those thoughts in our head systematically based on our values and beliefs, churning up different perspective and ideas. Ideas that could innovate and make use to better our lives as individuals or as a community.
That is how creativity works – a compiled idea created from interpreting layers upon layers of powerful stories.
Literature is a catalyst towards deepening our understanding in a way that we can comprehend effectively, when the world is filled with complexity and always in a fast-paced rapid movement.
It helps us take a deep breath and slow down – enjoying the present moment whilst taking in the values needed in our lives.
Its values span across generations and culture, it speaks in an ethereal language.
Words are a manifestation of what our beliefs and feelings are. And when those become stories, they resonate within us, which creates a line that connects people from all over the world despite their differences.
It has been valued across generations and through the decades – which shows how vital it is to practice and appreciate the art form. To preserve the importance of these values in a shape that goes beyond one’s culture.
The world today needs empathy now more than ever.
It is needed to keep reminding us the important values that makes us human and how it could initiate improvements to our lives.
So how do we keep the burning light of interests and curiosity through books? How do we keep literature alive? There are a few ways we could do it.
Ways to promote Literature in the 21st Century
1) Read a book (Obviously)
The most obvious way – is to pick a book in your local store or library and read them. The journey to self-discovery is between you and the book. There are no deadlines. No pressure. No judgements. Just enjoy the book and immerse yourself in the story.
2) Share it online
After you have read that book, share it! Let them know what you’ve learned from that book through social media; after all, the online space is the most efficient way to spread joy.
3) Join a book club or attend events
Any event or book club that could relate or promote the art form of literature or any kind of seminar discussing books, could be a way to keep this art form alive and going.
And apart from that, you could also find communities that share the same interests as you. Network and make new friends.
4) Watch films
This might be contradicting, but I started reading books after being a movie-goer. My love for films and Netflix shows didn’t died out. I just found a new way to gain a better perspective through books.
Eventually, there will be a point where you’ll realise – hey, some of these great movies and shows –actually derived from books! What a odd coincidence…
5) Support your authors
The reason why literature is still buzzing, is because of the inspiring writers and story-tellers that continue to hold the torch and embrace the legacy of writing.
Supporting them in various ways like attending their events or buying their books is one of the few ways to promote the art form and not just the authors themselves.

Oftentimes, the uncertainty of a specific meaning of a piece allows for its interpretation to be for the reader to decide. What is certain, however, is that there are things to be learned from literature that are specific to it, that cannot be attained through any other medium.
