How much would have Salman Khan’s Radhe – Your Most Wanted Bhai earned at the box office? Trade gives its verdict

Last year and earlier this year, we came up with three articles wherein we asked trade experts how much the digital films would have earned at the box office had these films released in cinemas. After a tremendous response to each of the three stories, we are now back with a similar exercise.

2 weeks back, the much awaited film, Radhe – Your Most Wanted Bhai , starring Salman Khan and Disha Patani released on digital in India while enjoying a theatrical release overseas. Bollywood Hungama this time approached the experts and gave them two hypothetical situations – Radhe – Your Most Wanted Bhai releasing solo at the box office and Radhe – Your Most Wanted Bhai clashing with Akshay Kumar-starrer Laxmii and asked how the Salman Khan starrer would have fared in both these scenarios. Both Radhe – Your Most Wanted Bhai and Laxmii were supposed to clash on Eid 2020 had things been normal and there was no pandemic. Ultimately, even Laxmii released online and like Radhe – Your Most Wanted Bhai , it also received negative reviews.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh says, “Had Radhe – Your Most Wanted Bhai come solo, it would have got the advantage in the single screens. But looking at the merits of the film, I doubt if it would have sustained after the first week or even after the first weekend. In multiplexes, its performance would have been poor after the initial curiosity because the film is weak.”

Girish Johar, producer and film business analyst, meanwhile tells, “If it had come solo in non-pandemic times, I am sure it would have collected around Rs. 175 crore . Salman’s films usually collect Rs. 100 days within 3 days on Eid. And since the content was not upto the mark here, the collections would have fallen but would have still reached the Rs. 175 crore mark.” Trade expert Komal Nahta in agreement says, “If it had come solo, Radhe – Your Most Wanted Bhai would have done at least Rs. 175 to 200 crores at the cinemas.”

Trade analyst Atul Mohan, meanwhile, makes an interesting observation before giving his verdict, “If things were normal, then Radhe – Your Most Wanted Bhai would have been a far better product. They were supposed to shoot in Thailand for the climax but they couldn’t do so due the lockdown. So they had to compromise a bit. I feel even the continuity jerks were there because of this reason. Bacche toh hai nahi yeh log . They are all experienced. Toh majboori mein yeh ho gaya hoga .”

He then adds, “ Radhe – Your Most Wanted Bhai would have taken huge opening. This wouldn’t have been the film that had come in cinemas. Isse achchi hi film aati . The mass audiences love action, especially in films starring Salman Khan. Single screen aur mass centres mein toh picture faad deti ! Yeh aaram se Rs. 150 crore kar deti .”

And what would have happened if Radhe – Your Most Wanted Bhai had clashed with Laxmii ? To which Taran Adarsh replies, “In that case, the business would have got divided. Both the films were poor and the problem with them was that the content didn’t match the stardom of Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan. So I feel there would have been no hope from the theatrical business of both the movies. It would have been a lacklustre Eid from business point of view. The audience today is very smart and the word of mouth spreads faster than a fire.”

Girish Johar opines, “Salman Khan has a little wider appeal pan-India. So Radhe – Your Most Wanted Bhai would have collected Rs. 125 crore . And Laxmii would have done the business of around Rs. 100 crores .” Atul Mohan replies, “If it had clashed, both the films would have done Rs. 100 crore. There would have been tremendous excitement due to the clash. Everything would have made news, from screen count to censor report to final run time of both films etc.”

Komal Nahta who had predicted Rs. 175-200 crore lifetime for Radhe – Your Most Wanted Bhai had it come solo, says, “It would have done slightly less had it come with Laxmii but still, it would have a been much better box office performance. The ‘Seeti Maar’ song is such a rage. Salman looked so good in the film. Despite the age difference, Salman and Disha Patani made for a lovely pair.”

Radhe Review: Salman Khan Does Everything Fans Expect Including Shedding His Shirt

Radhe review: randeep hooda, in the guise of a brutal baddie in black, upstages the rest of the cast, which includes jackie shroff in an underwritten comic role of a bumbling assistant commissioner of police..

A Salman Khan movie is usually like a running tap that cannot be turned off. It stops only when the water tank has been emptied of its content. Radhe , directed by Prabhudeva, is another unapologetic addition to that tradition. The film dumps a whole lot of dross on us, albeit with a certain degree of surface gloss.

The lead actor, doing justice to the tagline in the title (“Your Most Wanted Bhai”), has the entire film to himself. When Radhe loses his cool, which obviously is pretty frequently, there is no stopping him. The one-man army goes all guns blazing. It is, however, Randeep Hooda, in the guise of a brutal baddie in black, who upstages the rest of the cast, which includes Jackie Shroff in an underwritten comic role of a bumbling Assistant Commissioner of Police who seeks to hide his failings behind a wall of bluster.

Available for on-demand viewing on Zee5 – it would also have hit the multiplexes had the second wave of Covid-19 not shuttered movie halls across India – Radhe deals with an urban epidemic of sorts. Youngsters are dropping dead (or harming themselves grievously) owing to widespread drug addiction. Our man Radhe , an under-suspension police inspector, is hurriedly pulled out of hibernation and entrusted with the task of weeding out the drug dealers who are taking a toll on the nation's future.

Towards the end of the film, the protagonist, who has been given the assignment owing to his reputation (he has toted up 97 encounter killings and 23 transfers in ten years, the audience is told), proclaims: I will clean the city up. Swachch Bharat! Jai Hind! You expect him to round it off with Bharat Mata Ki Jai. He stops short. Mercifully.

The source of the basic story is duly acknowledged. Radhe is a remake of the high-grossing 2017 Korean action film The Outlaws, which had drawn inspiration from real-life, turn-of-the-millennium gang rivalries in a Chinese-dominated neighbourhood of Seoul. The Salman Khan starrer is only fitfully focused on the ground realities of Mumbai. It is far more at ease with the larger-than-life treatment that the star imposes upon the film.

Salman Khan goes about the mop-up job with all the swag at his command. In his grand entry scene, he flies through a sturdy glass pane without causing himself any pain. While he is in one piece and lands on his feet ready to take on the world, he sends shards and bodies flying. The goons who cross his path stand absolutely no chance – Radhe can stand up to entire battalions single-handedly, and without losing much sweat, let alone blood, over it.

Needless to say, we have seen this persona of the star on the big screen times without number. But just in case you don't get it, he spouts his signature Dabangg refrain: “Main jab commitment kar deta hoon….” Among the other punchlines that dialogue writer Vijay Maurya (also the film's screenwriter along with A.C. Mugil) gives the lead actor is: “Radhe jaane ke liye nahin bhejne ke liye aaya hai.” This is in response to an unsuspecting question posed by the first bad guy that he eliminates: How will you get out alive? It is Inspector Radhe's job to send criminals packing post-haste. As for the man himself, he comes and comes at his own sweet will.

Radhe is Salman Khan's customary Eid release. So, before he proceeds to hasten his first adversary's tryst with death, he declares: “Tere hisse ki biryani mil-baatke khayenge aur bolenge Eid Mubarak.” What that also means is that the star wants you to treat the film as a diversion in tough times and not fret over the illogical methods that it wallows in. Much later, Radhe brings us back fleetingly to the real world. The crawl on a television news channel reporting on a shootout in a Mumbai pub refers to the launch of the Coronavirus vaccination drive in India on January 16, 2021. But let us not even go there considering where we are a few months on.

Life isn't all work and no play for Radhe . He does get the occasional breather, thanks to the largely decorative presence of Disha Patani. The character that the hero's romantic interest plays is defined by the skimpiness of the outfits she sports rather than by the depth of her relevance to the plot. She is in the film to try and ensure that it is sufficiently peppered with songs and dances and that the musical set- pieces are endowed with reasonable glamour quotient while Salman Khan provides the star power to keep the unabashedly silly plot moving.

Not that she succeeds. In one scene, after she has sent her sloshed dad – the aforementioned ACP Avinash Abhyankar, Radhe' s boss, to bed, she breaks into a seductive dance to inveigle the object of her affection. Radhe , however, responds with spirit-dampening snores. That, to be charitable to her and to whoever decided to cast her opposite Salman (there is little compatibility, forget chemistry, between the two), is the effect Patani's presence has on the film. She slows it down.

The songs, picturised in a manner that harks back to Prabhudeva's early days as a choreographer, might pass muster if one were to watch them independently of the film, but in a thriller centred on vicious drug peddlers on the rampage and a cop bent upon bringing them to book, they are totally out of place.

Talking of placement of songs, the much-hyped Seeti Maar number does not add up at all. It is bunged into the 110-minute film at the top of its last quarter. It simply doesn't work. In anything, it pours a whole gallon of water on the possibility of any sort of dramatic anticipation building up as Radhe prepares to launch his final assault on Rana, the ruthless crime lord who goes about bludgeoning and slashing people who owe him money.

Radhe has enough inducements for diehard Salman Khan fans to keep them interested in the goings-on. The star does everything that they would expect of him, including shedding his shirt. For all others, there is Randeep Hooda.

Radhe overseas box office Collection Day 1: Salman Khan's action thriller earns Rs 4.3 crore

Salman Khan's Radhe released on May 13 on ZEE5 with ZEE's pay-per-view service ZEEPlex on the Zee5 OTT platform. It also witnessed a theatrical release in over 40 countries. Directed by Prabhu Deva, Radhe starred Disha Patani, Randeep Hooda and Jackie Shroff.

According to his adta, Radhe earned ₹35 lakh and ₹5.9 lakh in Australia and New Zealand, respectively.

Meanwhile, Salman Khan expressed his gratitude to the fans as Radhe became the most viewed film on the opening day. The film created history and garnered 4.2 million views. Ahead of Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai release, Salman Khan sent out a message seeking a commitment from people to watch the movie on the right platform. Salman on Wednesday posted an Instagram video urging fans to watch his new film on the official pay-per-view platform where it releases on May 13, and not to resort to piracy.  In the video, the actor said, " A lot of efforts are put in while making a movie, and it is very disheartening when some people do piracy and watch the film." 

The 'Kick' star added, "I ask you to give a commitment to enjoy films on the right platform. So, this Eid will be the audience's commitment - 'No Piracy in entertainment."

'Radhe' Overseas Box Office Collection: Salman Khan's Film Fares Well In International Markets On Opening Day

Salman khan's 'radhe' minted decent numbers on its first day at the international box office..

Mumbai : Salman Khan starrer ‘Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai’, which released in crucial overseas markets on May 13, has received a good response from the audience on the first day. The action drama has managed to rake in decent moolah on its opening day at the box office in major international markets.

Bollywood critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the overseas box office collection of ‘Radhe’ on social media. He revealed that the film collected Rs 35.71 lakh in Australia despite the COVID-19 crisis. Adarsh added the Prabhu Deva directorial started on a flying note in UAE, which is considered one of the most major international markets.

‘Radhe’ trended on social media upon its release on  ZEEPlex . The servers of ZEE5’s platform crashed as many users logged in at the same time to watch the film.   

Although, the film couldn’t release in theatres in India due to the second wave of COVID-19, it grabbed several eyeballs on the OTT platform. The much-awaited film received mixed reviews from the critics and fans on Twitter. The critics expressed their disappointment over the screenplay and loopholes in the storyline.   

Radhe Leaked Online

Ahead of the release of his film, Salman requested his followers to not resort to piracy and watch the film only on  ZEEPlex . His appeal went in vain as the film was leaked online on  Tamilrockers  and Telegram within few hours of release.  

Bollywood  Bhaijaan’s  fans urged the superstar to take  necessary  action after ‘Radhe’ was leaked on different piracy sites.

‘Radhe’, which is inspired by South Korean film ‘The Outlaws’, also stars Disha Patani, Randeep Hooda and Jackie Shroff in key roles. The film was originally slated to hit the silver screens on Eid 2020; however, it got delayed due to the COVID-19 crisis.   The flick is also available for streaming on leading DTH operators.

‘Sanam Teri Kasam’ tells the story of a tough ex-convict Inder and a traditional librarian Saru. They fall in love and get married but a tragedy changes their lives forever.

As the romantic musical film ‘Sanam Teri Kasam’ sets its re-release in theatres this October, the makers of the film have announced its second part with actor Harshvardhan Rane as the lead. While Harshvardhan has been locked as the lead with the storyline getting finalised, the makers are yet to zero down on a director to helm the film.

For Harshvardhan, returning to ‘Sanam Teri Kasam’ is like revisiting an old friend who has always been close to his heart. He said, “The love and connection that audiences have shown towards the film over the years is truly humbling. I’m thrilled to be a part of the producer of the original film, Deepak Mukuts sir’s world and bringing a story for you all with a sequel. They are creating something that honours the original while taking the journey forward in an exciting new direction.”

The official spokesperson from the makers said in a statement, “We are pleased to announce that ‘Sanam Teri Kasam 2’ is indeed confirmed, featuring Harshvardhan Rane as the lead actor once again. The sequel’s story has been finalised. The director has yet to be finalised, as Soham Rockstar Entertainment is committed to selecting a strong and visionary director who can deliver a sequel that meets the high expectations of our audience”.

There is a fine line that separates swooning romance from unintentional comedy. Radhe Shyam is a masterclass in what happens when you cross it. The deliciously silly line I just want flirtationship perfectly encapsulates the many problems with the film. Radhe Shyam ends with Amitabh Bachchans voice over telling us that eventually our actions shape our future, not the lines on our hand. On hearing this, a young man in the audience in the show I was in, groaned and said: Yeh pehle hi bata dete.

On the whole, Radhe Shyam is a poor show which will prove to be a heavily losing film in spite of its beautiful canvas. Its unduly high cost will only add to the tale of woes of the persons associated with the film. Business of the Telugu version, however, will be far better.

The story attempts to drive home a point that no science is absolute and 100 percent accurate; and that theres always a small but bright chance to change your destiny with karma. And this applies to even the worlds best palm-readers. However, in a run-time of about 140 minutes, which also seems tediously long, the core thought doesnt reach its desired mark. Hence, the film fails to create the impact it could have with all the apparatus it had at its disposal, including well-known names in each technical department and a bunch of good artistes.

Overall, Radhe Shyam is a grandly mounted love story that sticks to the genre. But, it fails in generating the magic via the lead pair chemistry, and thats where the whole thing falls apart. It eventually settles as a glossy affair with no soul. The only reason to watch the movie is first and foremost the visuals, and later followed by Prabhas.

Radhe shyam is a slow paced Love saga that tests your patience at times. The much needed chemistry between lead pair is not so effective. Movie is visually grand and has some good songs but lacks emotion. It has a forced climax, however the VFX effects are good compared to what we have seen in Indian cinema in the recent past, but that may not help the fate of the movie. Given the genre of this movie, Prabhass current macho image might effect the happenings of the movie in a negative way. Rich Production values and grandeur may bring some class audience to the theaters but overall the movie does not live up to the hype.

Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor-starrer Stree 2 has been going steady and strong at the box office, with almost no new competition for weeks. The film, directed by Amar Kaushik, is now eyeing to beat the collection of Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Jawan, which is the highest-grossing Indian film.

As per a report in Sacnilk, the film collected Rs 3.25 crore on Monday, Day 26. Given that the film has been running for almost a month in theatres, the numbers are very good, as several big-budget films struggle to collect this amount from the second week itself. The total collection of the film now stands at Rs 530.65 crore. While it has already surpassed the collection of 2023 biggies like Gadar 2 and Pathaan, it is now looking forward to surpass the collection of Jawan , which stands at Rs 582 crore, as per the same website.
