A History of Stanford
Stanford is an international institution, enrolling students from all 50 U.S. states and 91 other countries. It is also an athletics powerhouse, with 900 current student-athletes and a history of 128 national titles and 22 consecutive Learfield Sports Directors' Cups, awarded to the top intercollegiate athletics program in the nation.

Select One Program. Out of the graduate degree programs listed on the Explore Graduate Programs page, you may apply to only one program per academic year.. The only exception is within the Biosciences PhD programs, where you may apply for two programs within a single application.
Application Requirements for All Doctoral Programs (PhD)
All of our doctoral programs are designed to develop outstanding educational researchers who have a deep understanding of the scientific, practical and policy issues they study. All require full-time study, and we promise five years of full-time financial support for every student we admit. Our doctoral programs are small, typically ranging from about 25 to 35 new students a year.

The History Department is offering several paid research opportunities for Stanford undergraduates to participate in a faculty-led research project over the 2024 Winter and Spring quarters.

There are two tracks within the Biology Ph.D. program: Cell, Molecular and Organismal Biology; Ecology and Evolution (Previously a part of the Department of Biology Hopkins Marine Station is now a part of the Oceans Department within Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability). Some requirements are the same across concentrations, and other requirements are concentration-specific.
