These 10 Colleges Get the Most Applications
When it’s time to apply for college, the first thing you need to do is make a list of schools that interest you. As you narrow down your college top 25, one thing you may ask is whether the school gets many applications. In fall 2017, these 10 United States colleges and universities received the most applications, as stated by U.S. News & World Report. Eight of the 10 are based in California, while the other two are in the Northeast. Look and see if your favorites or potential submission selections from your college top 25 made the list.
University of California-Los Angeles
UCLA is located in the Westwood neighborhood of Los Angeles, about five miles from the Pacific Ocean. This school received 102,242 applications in 2017 and had an acceptance rate of 16 percent, one of the lowest in the UC system.
University of California-San Diego
The University of California-San Diego sits on 1,976 acres next to the Pacific Ocean in the city’s La Jolla neighborhood. In 2017, 88,428 prospective students applied to this school, and its acceptance rate was 34 percent.
University of California-Irvine
The University of California-Irvine is a research university near the Pacific Ocean that specializes in scientific fields, such as neuroscience. It received 85,102 applicants in fall 2017 and had an acceptance rate of 37 percent.
University of California-Berkeley
Located near the San Francisco Bay, the University of California-Berkeley is the oldest in the UC system. It received 85,057 applicants in 2017 and is one of the most selective in the state with an acceptance rate of 17 percent.
University of California-Santa Barbara
The University of California-Santa Barbara sits on a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean, about 100 miles north of Los Angeles. About 22,186 undergraduates attend this suburban campus. In 2017, it received 80,319 applications, and its acceptance rate was 33 percent.
University of California-Davis
The University of California-Davis is approximately 15 miles from Sacramento and has an airport and fire department on its campus. This school received 70,214 applications in 2017 and had an acceptance rate of 44 percent.
New York University
New York University is a private university located in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village neighborhood. This urban university received 64,007 applicants in 2017. It’s very selective, having an acceptance rate of 28 percent.
California State University-Long Beach
California State University-Long Beach has a scenic 322-acre campus that overlooks the Pacific Ocean. It received a total of 61,806 applications in 2017 and is selective, with a 29 percent acceptance rate.
Boston University
Boston University is one of the largest private universities in the U.S. It is an urban campus in the Allston-Brighton neighborhood of Boston. BU received 60,825 applications and had an acceptance rate of 25 percent in 2017.
San Diego State University
San Diego State University is located about 15 miles west of the city’s downtown. There were 60,697 applicants in fall 2017, and the school had an acceptance rate of 35 percent.

Das Presentation College ist eine 1888 gegründete Mädchenschule und befindet sich in einer lebendigen Stadt mit ihren ca. 24.000 Einwohnern. Das Ziel des Colleges ist es, Schülerinnen nicht nur im akademischen Bereich sehr gut auszubilden, sondern auch die sozialen und persönlichen Kompetenzen einer jeden Schülerin zu fördern. Die Schülerinnen sollen zu optimistischen, selbstbewussten und Leistung wertschätzenden Individuen heranwachsen, welche eine Sensibilität für andere und die Umwelt aufbauen. Der Optimismus wird von den engagierten und fröhlichen Lehrern vorgelebt und schafft eine angenehme Lernatmosphäre an der gesamten Schule. Internationale Schüler sind sehr willkommen. So sind von den 750 Schülern ca. 5 deutschsprachig. Um dir den Start in die neue Schule zu erleichtern, gibt es einen qualifizierten Berater, welcher dir bei der Zusammenstellung des Stundenplans hilft. Ganz egal, wie du deinen Schulalltag am Presentation College gestaltest, du wirst herzlich aufgenommen und wirst schnell Kontakte zu deinen Mitschülerinnen knüpfen.
Das umfangreiche Fächer- und Freizeitangebot erfüllt die Anforderungen des irischen Bildungsministeriums und ermöglicht die praktische Umsetzung der schuleigenen Werte. So gibt es neben den „normalen“ Fächern wie Mathe, Musik und Französisch auch spezielle Fächer wie Karriereführung, Hauswirtschaft und „Wellbeing“. Wellbeing beschäftigt sich vorwiegend mit dem körperlichen und geistigen Wohlbefinden und ist daher mit viel Praxis und einigen Ausflügen gekoppelt. Im optionalen irischen „Transition Year“ gibt es noch zahlreiche weitere spannende Angebote wie Journalismus, Programmieren und Filmstudien.
Für den außerschulischen Ausgleich ist auch gesorgt. Für die sportlichen Schülerinnen bietet das Presentation College Fußball, Basketball, Volleyball, Badminton, Leichtathletik, Orientierungslauf, Gaelic Football und Camogie auf den schuleigenen Sporteinrichtungen an. Camogie ist übrigens ein Mannschaftsspiel keltischen Ursprungs, das manchmal auch als Frauenhurling bezeichnet wird. Wer technisch versiert ist, sollte sich im Programmieren/Roboter Club anmelden. Ein ganz besonderer Stolz der High School ist der Chor. 2016 legte dieser eine bewegende Performance bei „Britain’s Got Talent“ hin und bekam neben standing ovations vom Publikum auch 4 Ja-Stimmen von der Jury.

Das Presentation College liegt in der Nähe des Stadtzentrums. Du kannst dieses sogar fußläufig von der Schule aus erreichen. Zum Entspannen gibt es einen großen Park mit Schloss nur 20 min entfernt. Das Angebot der Schule und ihre zentrumsnahe Lage lassen keinen Platz für Langeweile.
