CO कोरोना के लिए, VI - वायरस के लिए और D - डिजीज के लिए है | पहले इस बीमारी को ‘2019 नोवेल कोरोनावायरस’ या ‘2019-nCoV.’ के नाम से जाना जाता था |

COVID-19/कोविड - 19 वायरस, Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) से जुड़ा हुआ एक नया वायरस है|

COVID-19/कोविड - 19 वायरस किस तरह फैलता है? यह वायरस किसी पीड़ित व्यक्ति के खांसने या छींकने से सांस के कणों/बूंदों के सीधे संपर्क में आने से या वायरस से संक्रमित सतह को छूने से फैलता है | COVID-19/कोविड - 19 वायरस कुछ घंटों तक अपनी सतह पर जीवित रहता है लेकिन इसे किसी साधारण निस्संक्रामक से ख़त्म किया जा सकता है | कोरोनावायरस के लक्षण क्या हैं?

इसके लक्षणों में बुखार, खांसी, जल्दी-जल्दी सांस लेना आदि हो सकता है | अधिक गंभीर मामलों में निमोनिया या सांस की तकलीफ आदि हो सकते हैं | और गंभीर लेकिन कम मामलों में इससे जान भी जा सकती है | इसके लक्षण फ्लू (इन्फ्लुएंजा) या सामान्य सर्दी-जुकाम से मिलते जुलते हैं, जिनकी सम्भावना COVID-19/कोविड - 19 की अपेक्षा अधिक है | 

इसलिए इसमें टेस्ट करना ज़रूरी है जिससे किसी को COVID-19/कोविड - 19 होने पर पता चल सके | ये जानना महत्वपूर्ण है कि इससे बचाव के वही सामान्य तरीके हैं - बार-बार हाथ धोना और सांस लेने सम्बन्धी सावधानियां (खांसते या छींकते समय टिश्यू या कोहनी को मोड़ कर अपना मुंह और नाक ढक लें और इस्तेमाल के बाद टिश्यू को किसी बंद कूड़ेदान में फ़ेंक दें) |

इसके संक्रमण के खतरे से हम किस तरह बच सकते हैं?

यहाँ चार सावधानियां बताई जा रही हैं, जिससे आप और आप का परिवार संक्रमण से बच सकता है:

निरंतर अपना हाथ साबुन या अल्कोहल आधारित हैंड-रब से साफ़ करें |

खांसते या छींकते समय टिश्यू या कोहनी को मोड़ कर अपना मुंह और नाक ढक लें और इस्तेमाल के बाद टिश्यू को नष्ट कर दें |

अगर आपको या आपके बच्चे को बुखार, खांसी या सांस की तकलीफ हो तो अपने स्वास्थ्य कर्मी या डॉक्टर से संपर्क करें ।

सर्दी-जुकाम या फ्लू के लक्षणों वाले किसी भी व्यक्ति के संपर्क में आने से बचें |

क्या मुझे मेडिकल मास्क पहनना चाहिए?

यदि आपको सांस से सम्बंधित लक्षण हैं (खांसी और छींकना) तो और लोगों को बचाने के लिए आपको मेडिकल मास्क पहनना चाहिए | अगर आपको कोई लक्षण नहीं है तो आपको मेडिकल मास्क पहनने की ज़रुरत नहीं है | 

अगर आप मास्क पहनते हैं तो उसे सही ढंग से इस्तेमाल करने के बाद नष्ट कर देना चाहिए जिससे उसका सही असर हो और उससे किसी और में वायरस का संक्रमण न फैले | 

केवल मास्क पहनने से ही संक्रमण से बचाव नहीं होता है, इसलिए इसके साथ बार-बार हाथ धोना, छींकते और खांसते समय मुंह ढकना और किसी सर्दी या फ्लू के लक्षणों (खांसी, छींक, बुखार) वाले व्यक्ति से सीधे संपर्क से बचना ज़रूरी है |  

क्या COVID-19/कोविड - 19 बच्चों को प्रभावित करता है ?

ये एक नया वायरस है और अभी हमें इस बारे में अधिक जानकारी नहीं है कि ये बच्चों को किस प्रकार प्रभावित करता है | हम जानते हैं कि इस वायरस से कोई भी प्रभावित हो सकता है लेकिन अभी तक COVID-19/कोविड - 19 से बच्चों के प्रभावित होने के कम मामले ही सामने आये हैं | मुख्य रूप से कोविड - 19 पहले से बीमार वृद्ध लोगों के मामले में अधिक प्रभावित करता है |

अगर मेरे बच्चे में COVID-19/कोविड - 19 के लक्षण दिखें तो मुझे क्या करना चाहिए ?

डॉक्टर को दिखाएँ, लेकिन याद रखें कि इस समय उत्तरी गोलार्द्ध (hemisphere) में फ्लू का मौसम चल रहा है और COVID-19/कोविड - 19 के लक्षण जैसे खांसी या बुखार फ्लू या असामान्य सर्दी-जुकाम में भी होते हैं - जिसकी सम्भावना बहुत अधिक है |

हाथ और सांस सम्बन्धी स्वच्छता का पूरा ध्यान रखें, जैसे लगातार हाथ धोना और बच्चों को सभी टीके लगे होना - जिससे आपका बच्चा बीमारियां पैदा करने वाले अन्य वायरस और बैक्टीरिया से बचा रहे |

आपको या आपके बच्चे को फ्लू की तरह अन्य सांस सम्बन्धी संक्रमण के लक्षण होने पर भीड़ वाली जगह (काम की जगह, स्कूल, पब्लिक ट्रांसपोर्ट) में जाने से बचें, जिससे अन्य लोगों में ये संक्रमण न फैले |

अगर मेरे परिवार के किसी सदस्य में इसके लक्षण दिखें तो मुझे क्या करना चाहिए ?

अगर आपको या आपके बच्चे को बुखार, खांसी या सांस की तकलीफ हो तो तुरंत डॉक्टर को दिखाना चाहिए | अगर आप किसी ऐसी जगह गए हैं जहाँ COVID-19/कोविड - 19 के मामले सामने आये हों, या किसी ऐसे व्यक्ति के संपर्क में आये हों जो ऐसे जगह पर गया हो और उसे सांस सम्बन्धी तकलीफ हो, तो आप पहले ही अपने डॉक्टर को संपर्क करें |

क्या मुझे अपने बच्चे को स्कूल नहीं भेजना चाहिए ?

अगर आपके बच्चे में ये लक्षण हैं तो डॉक्टरी मदद लें और डॉक्टर की सलाह मानें, अन्यथा फ्लू जैसे सांस के अन्य संक्रमण के मामले में बच्चे को घर पर आराम करने दें और भीड़ वाली जगह में जाने और संक्रमण फैलने से रोकें |

अगर आपके बच्चे में बुखार, खाँसी जैसे लक्षण नहीं हैं और स्वास्थ्य या स्कूल सम्बन्धी कोई सलाह नहीं जारी किया गया है - तो बेहतर होगा कि आप अपने बच्चे को स्कूल भेजें |

बच्चे को स्कूल न भेजने के बजाय उसे स्कूल और अन्य स्थानों पर हाथ और सांस सम्बन्धी स्वच्छता, जैसे बार-बार हाथ धोना (नीचे देखें), कोहनी मोड़ कर या टिश्यू से खांसते या छींकते समय मुंह और नाक ढक लेना और इस्तेमाल के बाद टिश्यू को किसी बंद कूड़ेदान में फ़ेंक देना और गंदे हाथ से अपनी आँख, मुंह या नाक न छूना आदि सिखाएं |

सही ढंग से हाथ धुलने का सबसे अच्छा तरीका क्या है ?

पहला चरण  – नल के / बहते पानी में हाथ गीला करिए |

दूसरा चरण  – पूरे हाथ के लिए पर्याप्त साबुन लीजिये |

तीसरा चरण  – पूरे हाथ को कम से कम 20 सेकंड तक साबुन से मलिए – हाथ के पीछे, उँगलियों के बीच में और नाखूनों के अंदर भी |

चौथा चरण  - नल के / बहते पानी में हाथ अच्छे से धुलिये |

पांचवां चरण  – साफ़ कपड़े या एक बार इस्तेमाल करने वाले तौलिये से हाथ पोछें |

निरंतर हाथ धोइए, विशेष रूप से खाने से पहले, नाक साफ करने के बाद, खांसने या छींकने के बाद और बाथरूम में जाने के बाद|

अगर साबुन और पानी उपलब्ध न हो तो अल्कोहल युक्त सैनीटाईज़र, जिसमे कम से कम 60% अल्कोहल हो, से हाथ साफ़ करें | अगर हाथ देखने में गन्दा लग रहा हो तो, साबुन और पानी से हाथ साफ करें |

यात्रा करते हुए मुझे अपने परिवार के लिए क्या सावधानियां बरतनी चाहिए ?

किसी दूसरे देश की यात्रा करने से पहले वहां के सम्बन्ध में जारी कोई यात्रा सम्बन्धी सलाह, देश में प्रवेश के सम्बन्ध में किसी प्रकार की रोक, प्रवेश के समय क्वारंटाइन सम्बन्धी निर्देश या अन्य कोई सलाह के बारे में जानकारी प्राप्त कर लें |

यात्रा सम्बन्धी सामान्य सावधानियों के साथ, क्वारंटाइन से बचने के लिए या अपने देश में वापस लौटने के प्रतिबन्ध से बचने के लिए, आपको इंटरनेशनल एयर ट्रांसपोर्ट एसोसिएशन की वेबसाइट पर COVID-19/कोविड –19 के बारे में ताज़ा स्थिति (the latest COVID-19 update on the International Air Transport Association website) की जानकारी प्राप्त कर लें |

किसी भी यात्रा के दौरान सभी अभिभावक खुद के लिए और अपने बच्चों के सम्बन्ध में स्वच्छता सम्बन्धी मानकों का पालन करें: बार-बार हाथ धुलें या अल्कोहल युक्त सैनीटाईज़र, जिसमे कम से कम 60% अल्कोहल हो, से हाथ साफ़ करें, सांस सम्बन्धी स्वच्छता (कोहनी मोड़ कर या टिश्यू से खांसते या छींकते समय मुंह और नाक ढक लेना और इस्तेमाल के बाद टिश्यू को नष्ट कर देना) का पालन करें और किसी खांसने या छींकने वाले के संपर्क में आने से बचें | इसके अतिरिक्त अभिभावकों को ये सलाह है कि वे हमेश अपने साथ हाथ साफ करने वाला सैनीटाईज़र, डिस्पोजेबल टिश्यू और कीटाणु नाशक वाइप्स साथ रखें |

इसके अतिरिक्त ये करने की भी सलाह दी जाती है की किसी विमान या अन्य किसी गाड़ी में बैठते समय कीटाणु नाशक वाइप्स से अपनी सीट, आर्म्स रेस्ट, टच स्क्रीन आदि को साफ कर लें | जिस होटल में आप और आपके बच्चे रुकें, वहां भी कीटाणु नाशक वाइप्स से चाबियाँ, दरवाजों के हैंडल, रिमोट कण्ट्रोल आदि साफ कर लें |  

क्या किसी गर्भवती महिला से उसके बच्चे में कोरोनावायरस जा सकता है ?

अभी तक इस विषय में पर्याप्त जानकारी उपलब्ध नहीं है कि किसी गर्भवती महिला से गर्भावस्था के दौरान उसके बच्चे में वायरस जा सकता है या नहीं और इसका उसके बच्चे पर क्या प्रभाव हो सकता है | इस बारे में शोध अभी जारी है | गर्भवती महिलाओं को इस वायरस के संपर्क में आने से बचने के लिए ज़रूरी सावधानियों को अपनाएं और बुखार, खांसी या सांस की तकलीफ जैसे लक्षण दिखने पर डॉक्टर को दिखाएँ|

क्या कोरोना वायरस से पीड़ित माँ के द्वारा अपने बच्चे को स्तनपान करना सुरक्षित है ?

इससे प्रभावित या अधिक जोखिम वाले क्षेत्रों में रहने वाली या बुखार, खांसी या सांस की तकलीफ की लक्षण वाली माताओं को डॉक्टरी सलाह लेनी चाहिए, और उनका पालन करना चाहिए |

स्तनपान के फायदों को ध्यान में रखते हुए और श्वास सम्बन्धी अन्य वायरस की माँ के दूध में क्षीण भूमिका  को देखते हुए देखते हुए माताओं को अपने बच्चों को पूरी सावधानी के साथ स्तनपान कारन जारी रखना चाहिए |

जैसा कि COVID-19/कोविड –19से संक्रमित या संभावित अन्य मामलों में सावधनी रखना चाहिए, इसके लक्षण वाली माताओं को भी, जो स्तनपान कराती हैं, सभी सावधानियां रखनी चाहिए जैसे मास्क पहनना, अपने बच्चे के पास जाते समय (या उसे स्तनपान कराते समय) अपना हाथ धुलना, संक्रमित सतहों को साफ / विसंक्रमित करना आदि |

यदि माँ ज्यादा बीमार हो तो उनको, संक्रमण से बचाव के तरीके अपनाते हुए, अपना दूध निकल कर किसी साफ कप या चम्मच से बच्चे को पिलाने को कहना चाहिए|

अद्यतन यदि मुझे वर्तमान में COVID-19 है, तो क्या मुझे अभी टीका लगवाना चाहिए?

जो लोग कोविड-19  से संक्रमित हैं या जिनमें लक्षण नजर आ रहे हैं ऐसे लोगों को कम से कम 10 दिनों के लिए आइसोलेशन में रहना चाहिए। जो लोग कोविड-19 से ठीक हो गए हैं, उन्हें संक्रमण के बाद अपने कोविड-19  टीकाकरण करवाने को 3 महीने के लिए टालना चाहिए।

नया क्या होगा अगर मुझे वैक्सीन की दो खुराक के बीच में कोविड -19 हो जाए?

टीका लगवाना – टीका लगने की तारीख तक और बाद में

• टीकाकरण केंद्र में किसी भी व्‍यक्ति से कम से कम 6 फीट (2 मीटर) की दूरी बनाकर रखें।
• अपनी नाक और मुंह पर 3-परत वाला मेडिकल मास्क या N95 मास्क पहनें। यदि संभव न हो तो डबल मास्क (डिस्पोजेबल सर्जिकल मास्क के ऊपर कपड़े का मास्क) पहनें।
• अपने चेहरे या किसी भी सतह को न छुएं।किसी से हाथ मत मिलाएं।

नहीं, विभिन्न प्रकार के टीकों में अलग-अलग प्रकार के रसायन होते हैं जो हमारे शरीर को वायरस से बचाने के लिए प्रोटीन या एंटीबॉडी का उत्पादन करने का संकेत देते हैं। इनमें से किसी भी टीके में सक्रिय वायरस नहीं है।

नया   किसी को कोविड -19 का टीका नहीं लगवाने के कौन से कारण हैं?

कोविड-19 वैक्सीन लगवाने से पहले डॉक्टर से बात करने के आवश्‍यक पहलू हैं:

• अगर व्‍यक्ति में:
• कोविड-19 टीके की पहली खुराक लगने के बाद किसी तरह से एनाफिलेक्टिक या एलर्जी के लक्षण नजर आएं।
• टीकों या इंजेक्शन से किए गए उपचारों, फार्मास्युटिकल उत्पादों/दवाओं, खाद्य पदार्थों आदि के कारण तत्काल या कुछ समय बाद एनाफिलेक्टि या एलर्जी के लक्षण नजर आएं।
• गर्भावस्था:
• गर्भवती महिलाएं अब तक किसी भी कोविड-19 वैक्सीन क्‍लीनिकल ट्रायल का हिस्सा नहीं रही हैं। इसलिए, जो महिलाएं गर्भवती हैं या अपनी गर्भावस्था की स्थिति के बारे में सुनिश्चित नहीं हैं, उन्हें इस समय कोविड-19 का टीका नहीं लगवाना चाहिए। जैसे ही अधिक जानकारी सामने आती है, इस मामले में बदलाव हो सकता है।
• कोविड-19 वैक्सीन प्राप्त करने में देरी के अस्थायी कारक हो सकते हैं यदि कोई:
• हाल ही में कोविड-19 से संक्रमित था (कोविड-19 से ठीक होने के बाद टीकाकरण में 3 महीने का इंतजार करना चाहिए)
• कोविड-19 संक्रमण के सक्रिय लक्षण नजर आ रहे हैं (कोविड-19 की जांच करवाएं)
• कोविड-19 से संक्रमित हैं और उसे मोनोक्लोनल एंटीबॉडी या कन्‍वेलेसेंट प्लाज्मा दिया गया है।
• गंभीर रूप से अस्वस्थ है और किसी बीमारी के कारण अस्पताल में भर्ती है (गहन देखभाल में या उसके बिना)

जिस व्यक्ति को इनमें से कोई एक स्थिति थी, उसकी बीमारी ठीक होने और उचित समय के बाद, उसे कोविड-19 का टीका लगाया जा सकता है।

यदि आप सुनिश्चित नहीं हैं कि आपको या आपके परिवार में किसी को टीका लगवाना चाहिए, तो डॉक्टर से बात करें।

क्या कोविड -19 टीका पुरुषों या महिलाओं में नि:संतानता का कारण बन सकता है?

इस बात को सत्‍यापित करती हुई ऐसा कोई वैज्ञानिक प्रमाण अब तक सामने नहीं आया है कि कोविड-19 का टीका महिलाओं या पुरुषों में नि:संतानता (बच्चे पैदा करने में असमर्थता) का कारक बन सकता है। इसी तरह कोविड-19 के परिणामस्वरूप नि:संतानत होने की भी जानकारी नहीं है।

क्या कोविशील्ड (ऑक्सफोर्ड/एस्ट्राजेनेका) के टीके से रक्त के थक्के बनते हैं?

कोविशील्ड किसी भी तरह से शरीर में खून के थक्के जमाने की तकलीफ के बढ़ते समग्र जोखिम से कतई संबंधित नहीं है। खून में मौजूद प्लेटलेट्स के निम्न स्तर के साथ असामान्य तौर पर खून के थक्‍के जमने के बहुत दुर्लभ मामले ही सामने आए हैं। खून के थक्‍के जमना उन दुर्लभ लक्षणों के साथ शामिल हैं जिन्हें शीघ्र चिकित्सा उपचार की आवश्यकता होती है: जैसे सांस फूलना; छाती या पेट में दर्द; एक पैर में सूजन या ठंड लगना, तेज या लगातार सिरदर्द या धुंधला नजर आना ; या इंजेक्शन की जगह पर त्वचा के नीचे महीन रक्त के धब्बे। यदि टीकाकरण लगने के बाद के हफ्तों में इनमें से कोई भी लक्षण दिखाई दे तो तत्काल चिकित्सा सहायता लेनी चाहिए।

टीकों से गंभीर दुष्प्रभाव दुर्लभ हैं लेकिन किसी भी टीके के साथ और किसी भी बीमारी के कुछ मामलों में वे नजर आते हैं । हालांकि, आज हम इतिहास का सबसे बड़ा सामूहिक टीकाकरण अभियान देख रहे हैं। बड़ी संख्या में लोगों को टीका लगाया जा रहा है और टीकों और महामारी पर ध्यान केंद्रित किया गया है, ऐसे में कुछ दुर्लभ प्रतिक्रियाएं आने की संभावना हो सकती है। यह देखा जाना बाकी है कि क्या अन्य कोविड-19 टीकों पर भी इसी तरह की दिक्‍कतें सामने आ सकती है, लेकिन यह देखते हुए कि एस्ट्राजेनेका को सबसे पहले मंजूरी दी गई थी और किसी भी अन्य की तुलना में कहीं अधिक लोगों को इसका डोज दिया जा चुका है, अब किसी भी प्रतिकूल घटनाओं के दिखने की संभावना दुर्लभ है क्‍योंकि अब तक काफी संख्‍या में लोगों को इसे लगाया जा चुका है।

• मैसेंजर राइबोन्यूक्लिक  एसिड (mRNA) , कुछ नए कोविड-19 टीकों में, यह एक सक्रिय घटक है जो उस व्‍यक्ति में एक प्रतिरक्षा प्रतिक्रिया उत्पन्न करता है।

वे तत्‍व जो टीकों को सुरक्षित और लंबे समय तक बनाए रखते हैं-

कुछ तत्व यह सुनिश्चित करने में मदद करते हैं कि एक टीका वैसे ही काम करना जारी रखे जिस काम के लिए उसे बनाया गयाहै और यह बाहरी कीटाणुओं और बैक्टीरिया से मुक्त रहता है। उदाहरण के लिए:

• प्रिजर्वेटिव टीके को बाहरी बैक्टीरिया या फंगस से बचाते हैं। आज, आमतौर पर प्रिजर्वेटिव का उपयोग केवल उन टीकों की शीशियों (कंटेनरों) में किया जाता है जिनकी एक से अधिक खुराक होती है। ऐसा इसलिए है क्योंकि जब भी उस शीशी से एक व्यक्तिगत खुराक ली जाती है, ऐसे मे हानिकारक कीटाणुओं का उसके अंदर जाना संभव हो सकता है। आज अधिकांश टीके एकल-खुराक वाली शीशियों में भी उपलब्ध हैं और उनमें प्रिजर्वेटिवनहीं होते हैं।
• चीनी या जिलेटिन जैसे स्टेबलाइजर्स   टीकों में सक्रिय अवयवों को तब तक काम करते रहने में मदद करते हैं जब तक कि टीका तैयार होकर, संग्रहीत और स्थानांतरित नहीं हो जाता। स्टेबलाइजर्स टीकों में सक्रिय अवयवों को बदलने से रोकते हैं क्योंकि जिस स्‍थान पर टीकों को संग्रहीत किया जाता है वहां के तापमान में बदलाव हो जाता है।

टीकों के उत्पादन के दौरान प्रयुक्त सामग्री-

किसी व्यक्ति में वैक्सीन के काम करने के लिए वैक्सीन बनाने के लिए आवश्यक कुछ तत्‍वों की अब आवश्यकता नहीं है। इन सामग्रियों को उत्पादन के बाद बाहर निकाल दिया जाता है इसलिए अंतिम उत्पाद में केवल थोड़ी मात्रा ही बची रहती है। इन अवयवों की बहुत कम मात्रा जो अंतिम उत्पाद में रहती है, हानिकारक नहीं होती है। कुछ टीकों में प्रयुक्त सामग्री के उदाहरण हैं:

• सेल कल्चर ( विकास) सामग्री, वैक्सीन एंटीजन को विकसित करने में मदद करने के लिए।
• टीके में वायरस, बैक्टीरिया या अन्‍य हानिका‍रक पदार्थों को कमजोर करने या मारने के लिए फॉर्मलडिहाइड जैसे निष्क्रिय ( कीटाणुनाशक) तत्व ।
• एंटीबायोटिक्स ,  जैसे नियोमाइसिन, जिससे टीके में बाहरी कीटाणुओं और जीवाणुओं को पनपने से रोकने में मदद मिल सके।

यह दावा पूरी तरह से झूठा है कि इन टीकों में माइक्रोचिप या ट्रैकर है। इन टीकों में पारा होने का दावा भी झूठा है।

कोविशील्ड की संरचना में निष्क्रिय एडिनोवायरस शामिल हैं जिनमें कोरोनावायरस, एल्युमिनियम हाइड्रॉक्साइड जेल, एल-हिस्टिडाइन, एल-हिस्टिडाइन हाइड्रोक्लोराइड मोनोहाइड्रेट, मैग्नीशियम क्लोराइड हेक्साहाइड्रेट, पॉलीसोर्बेट 80, इथेनॉल, सूक्रोज, सोडियम क्लोराइड और डाइसोडियम एडिटेट डाइहाइड्रेट (ईडीटीए) शामिल हैं।

कोवैक्‍सीन की संरचना में निष्क्रिय कोरोनावायरस, एल्युमिनियम हाइड्रॉक्साइड जेल, TLR 7/8 एगोनिस्ट, 2-फेनोक्सीएथेनॉल और फास्फेट बफर सलाइन [NKA1] शामिल हैं।

यह विधि एक के बाद एक इन प्रक्रियाओं को करने में होने वाली देरी को दूर करती है। हालांकि इस दौरान सुरक्षा सुनिश्चित करने के चरणों को किसी भी हाल में हटाया नहीं गया है।

टीकों का परीक्षण कैसे किया जाता है?

सभी टीके एक गहन परीक्षण प्रक्रिया से गुजरते हैं जिसमें टीके और उसके अवयवों की सावधानीपूर्वक जांच को शामिल किया गया है। ये परीक्षण टीके की सुरक्षा का मूल्यांकन करते हैं और यह पता लगाने में मदद करते हैं कि ये टीके किसी बीमारी को कितनी अच्छी तरह रोक सकते हैं। परीक्षण पहले शोध प्रयोगशालाओं में किए जाते हैं, और फिर यदि टीका प्रभावी और सुरक्षित साबित होता है, तो शोधकर्ता क्‍लीनिकल ट्रायल शुरू करने के लिए आवेदन कर सकते हैं।

क्‍लीनिकल ट्रायल में आम तौर पर हर चरण में प्रतिभागियों की बढ़ती संख्या के साथ तीन चरणों में कई हजार स्वस्थ लोगों को शामिल किया जाता है। सभी चरणों में परीक्षणों को राष्ट्रीय नियामक प्राधिकरणों द्वारा निर्धारित सख्त सुरक्षा नियमों का पालन करना होता है जो प्रतिभागियों की सुरक्षा को प्राथमिकता देते हैं। जब वैक्सीन निर्माता अपने टीके की स्‍वीक़ृति के लिए आवेदन करते हैं, तो सभी क्‍लीनिकल ट्रायल के परिणामों पर विचार किया जाता है।

कोविड -19 का टीका काम कैसे करता है?

फिलहाल कई कोविड-19 टीके विकसित, परीक्षण और स्वीकृत किए जा रहे हैं। वे सभी शरीर की प्रतिरक्षा प्रणाली को कोरोनावायरस के खिलाफ सुरक्षा प्रतिक्रिया में वायरस को समझने और उसे रोकने के लिए हैं। वैक्सीन के प्रकारों में शामिल हैं:

• निष्क्रिय या कमजोर वायरस के टीके, जो निष्क्रिय या कमजोर किए गए वायरस के एक रूप का उपयोग करते हैं, इसलिए यह बीमारी का कारण नहीं बनते हैं बावजूद इसके एक प्रतिरक्षा प्रतिक्रिया देता है। उदाहरण के लिए: कोवैक्‍सीन।
• वायरल वेक्टर टीके, जो आनुवंशिक कोड (जैसे डीएनए) को ले जाने के लिए एक परिवर्तित वायरस का उपयोग करते हैं और एक प्रोटीन का निर्माण करते हैं जो बिना कोविड -19 से संक्रमित हुए प्रतिरक्षा प्रतिक्रिया को प्रेरित करता है। उदाहरण के लिए: कोविशील्‍ड।

In addition to these symptoms, patients infected with the coronavirus may also feel weariness, a sore throat, muscular discomfort, and a loss of taste or smell.

Many individuals and families have been struggling to make ends meet, and this has led to a rise in poverty and inequality.

Impact on Healthcare Systems | The pandemic has also put a strain on healthcare systems around the world. Hospitals have been overwhelmed with patients, and healthcare workers have been stretched to their limits. This has highlighted the importance of investing in healthcare systems and ensuring that they are prepared for future crises.

Impact on Education | The pandemic has also affected the education system, with schools and universities being closed around the world. This has led to a shift towards online learning and the use of technology to continue education remotely. However, it has also highlighted the digital divide, with many students from low-income backgrounds facing difficulties in accessing online learning.

Impact on Mental Health | The pandemic has not only affected our physical health but also our mental health. We have seen how the isolation and uncertainty caused by the pandemic have led to an increase in stress, anxiety, and depression. It's important that we take care of our mental health and support each other during this difficult time.

Real-life Story of a Student

John is a high school student who was determined to succeed despite the struggles brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic.

John's school closed down in the early days of the pandemic, and he quickly found himself struggling to adjust to online learning. Without the structure and support of in-person classes, John found it difficult to stay focused and motivated. ‘Laws don’t change unless they’re challenged’: Palm Beach County may try to curb hate speech

Presidential election denial. COVID-19 conspiracy theories. Palm Beach County Commissioners perhaps have heard and seen it all.

Still, commissioners’ attention turned to what could be done to curb hate speech on April 2, after a group of people at a meeting spoke one by one at a lectern — making disparaging remarks about Jewish people, and two of them invoking Adolf Hitler.

“It was shocking but unfortunately I guess not surprising that people would come out from underneath their rocks and spread their hate,” Commissioner Gregg Weiss said during a meeting on Tuesday.

Weiss said that even though what was said on April 2 did not violate the First Amendment, it did not mean it was not “disgusting.”

“Hate speech is protected under the First Amendment,” County Attorney Denise Coffman said during the Tuesday meeting. “But I think sometimes the board has a decision to make in their heart and their conscience, and sometimes we make stands because that’s the right thing to do.”

Current county rules state matters by the public should be “germane to county business,” but during the meeting, Coffman said the board could be allowed in the future to cut people off, midsentence, if they begin talking about something not within the scope of the board’s authority.

“We’re going to beef up the rules a little bit and focus on the fact that we only want people to talk about things that are relevant to the Board of County Commissioners,” Coffman said.

A “more robust discussion” is still needed in order to tie the idea down, she said, before rules are enacted.

“If somebody makes a comment about being unhappy with the resolution of the board, that’s clearly within the scope of the board,” she said. “But at that point, if they continue to make political statements or statements that are unrelated to the business of the board, you can cut them off if it’s unrelated to us, but we must be consistent, everyone gets treated the same.”

She added: “The conscience of the board is such that we’re willing to take a little bit more risk than strictly conservative, which, you know, attorneys always want to be the most conservative people in the room when it comes to risk.”

“But sometimes laws don’t change unless they’re challenged.”

The county should try to clearly define its rules surrounding speech, said Howard Wasserman, a Florida International University law professor who specializes in First Amendment law, among other topics.

“They may need some precision, and they may have some trouble finding the precision, in their definition of what pertains to the business of the county,” said Wasserman, who isn’t involved in the county’s discussions. “But I think they can get past that.”

A lot of other local governments are discussing an implementation of rules similar to what Palm Beach County is doing, Wasserman said.

“The meetings have become so unruly,” he said, adding: “And so I think it’s happening more and more in the current political environment.”

Already, city officials in Delray Beach are following suit in response to what was said during the April 2 county meeting.

During a Delray Beach City Commission meeting on April 9, Deputy Vice-Mayor Rob Long proposed the city proactively amend its rules to prevent or at the least mitigate opportunities for anyone to use the city’s chambers as a “platform to broadcast hate speech.”

The goal, he said, would be to give newly elected Mayor Tom Carney tools to shut down hate speech and remove those who are saying it at City Hall. “Freedom of speech is not an unfettered right, particularly if it’s threatening, inciting or defamatory,” Long said.

Wasserman said a government has the ability to limit the scope of speech to certain topics, such as only about county business, as Palm Beach County is trying to do, as long as it’s done in a viewpoint-neutral manner.

For example, if a member of the public stepped forward and began speaking about the Israel-Hamas war, something the county is not involved in, the commissioners couldn’t allow one person to speak favorably about Israel but then prohibit another person from criticizing Israel, he said. Both people would need to be cut off for the rule to be enforced fairly.

This authority is because the space to which people can come forward and speak at the meetings is not what would be considered a wide-open public forum. Rather, it is a designated public forum, a space the government has opened up for speech by the public. The governing body behind a designated public forum is allowed to limit dialogue to certain speakers or topics, Wasserman said.

This differs from public forums such as a public sidewalk where anyone could come forward and peacefully protest.

“The county could say, for example, only county residents can speak at this public meeting,” he said. “You couldn’t do that at a park.”

Biden administration announces new partnership with 50 countries to stifle future pandemics

President Joe Biden's administration is launching a program that will help 50 countries identify and respond to infectious diseases, with the goal of preventing pandemics like the COVID-19 outbreak

WASHINGTON -- President Joe Biden's administration will help 50 countries identify and respond to infectious diseases, with the goal of preventing pandemics like the COVID-19 outbreak that suddenly halted normal life around the globe in 2020.

U.S. government officials will offer support in the countries, most of them located in Africa and Asia, to develop better testing, surveillance, communication and preparedness for such outbreaks in those countries.

The strategy will help “prevent, detect and effectively respond to biological threats wherever they emerge,” Biden said in a statement Tuesday.

The Global Health Security Strategy, the president said, aims to protect people worldwide and "will make the United States stronger, safer, and healthier than ever before at this critical moment.”

The announcement about the strategy comes as countries have struggled to meet a worldwide accord on responses to future pandemics. Four years after the coronavirus pandemic, prospects of a pandemic treaty signed by all 194 of the World Health Organization’s members are flailing.

Talks for the treaty are ongoing, with a final text expected to be agreed upon next month in Geneva. It’s meant to be a legally binding treaty that obliges countries to monitor pandemic threats and share scientific findings. But major disputes have emerged over vaccine equity and transferring the technology used to make vaccines .

Even if a deal is hammered out, there would be few consequences for countries that choose not to abide by the treaty.

The U.S. will push on with its global health strategy to prevent future pandemics, regardless of a pandemic treaty or not, a senior administration official told reporters on Monday.

Several U.S. government agencies — including the State Department, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Health and Human Services and the U.S. Agency for International Development, or USAID — will help countries refine their infectious disease response.

Health systems around the globe have been overwhelmed with COVID-19 and other health emergencies such as Ebola, malaria and mpox, the CDC said in a statement. The new strategy will help countries rebuild their agencies, the U.S. agency explained.

“Global health security is national security, and CDC is proud to contribute its expertise, investments and rapid response to protect the health and safety of the American people and the world,” Mandy Cohen, the CDC's director, said in a statement.

Congo is one country where work has already begun. The U.S. government is helping Congo with its response to an mpox virus outbreak, including with immunizations. Mpox, a virus that's in the same family as the one that causes smallpox, creates painful skin lesions. The World Health Organization declared mpox a global emergency in 2022, and there have been more than 91,000 cases spanning across 100 countries to date.

The White House on Tuesday released a website with the names of the countries that are participating in the program. Biden officials are seeking to get 100 countries signed onto the program by the end of the year.

The U.S. has devoted billions of dollars, including money raised from private donations, to the effort. Biden, a Democrat, is asking for $1.2 billion for global health safety efforts in his yearly budget proposal to Congress.

USC Class of 2024 valedictorian’s speech canceled amid allegations of antisemitism

The University of Southern California has canceled its Class of 2024 valedictorian’s speech due to safety issues after pro-Israel groups accused her of being antisemitic.

Asna Tabassum was scheduled to speak at the commencement but has since been told that USC will not allow her to do so due to safety concerns.

Tabassum released a personal statement through The Greater Los Angeles Area office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.

“I am honored to have been selected as USC Class of 2024 Valedictorian. Although this should have been a time of celebration for my family, friends, professors, and classmates, anti-Muslim and anti-Palestinian voices have subjected me to a campaign of racist hatred because of my uncompromising belief in human rights for all.

“This campaign to prevent me from addressing my peers at commencement has evidently accomplished its goal: today, USC administrators informed me that the university will no longer allow me to speak at commencement due to supposed security concerns. I am both shocked by this decision and profoundly disappointed that the University is succumbing to a campaign of hate meant to silence my voice.

“I am not surprised by those who attempt to propagate hatred. I am surprised that my own university—my home for four years—has abandoned me,” Tabassum wrote.

However, the university says Tabassum’s speech isn’t being canceled due to her political and personal views, but because of concern for her well-being after receiving backlash from pro-Israel groups.

An Instagram account with the handle @Israelwarroom put up a post on April 9 featuring Tabassum, and accusing her of posting and liking anti-Semitic views on her social media profile. However, the school insists that Tabassum’s speech is being removed to ensure no one is harmed during the commencement.

“After careful consideration, we have decided that our student valedictorian will not deliver a speech at commencement,” USC said in a statement. “While this is disappointing, tradition must give way to safety…The issue here is how best to maintain campus security and safety, period.”

The school adds that it has allowed for open discussions and differing viewpoints to be a flashpoint for conversations on the campus during the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

“Throughout the 2023-2024 academic year, our campuses have been open for numerous expressions of free speech by students and student groups, including rallies and demonstrations that run the entire spectrum of social and political opinion.”

CAIR-LA Executive Director Hussam Ayloush isn’t satisfied with USC’s response, and reprimanded the school for its decision in a statement.

“USC cannot hide its cowardly decision behind a disingenuous concern for ‘security.’ Asna is an incredibly accomplished student whose academic and extracurricular accomplishments made her the ideal and historic recipient of this year’s valedictorian’s honor,” Ayloush wrote. “The university can, should, and must ensure a safe environment for graduation rather than taking the unprecedented step of canceling a valedictorian’s speech.

There has been at least one incident at USC since the conflict between Israel and Hamas began last October. A USC professor was also banned for his comments about the conflict but was reinstated a short time later.

In our new poll, a little under half of voters think Trump should be found guilty in the 2016 campaign sex scandal cover-up case in New York, but very few are paying attention. Just a quarter of them say they’re paying a lot of attention, and about half describe the case as very serious. When others have polled on the seriousness of Trump’s four major criminal trials, this case often polls as the least serious.

In a new New York Times/Siena College poll , nearly equal shares of voters — a little under 60 percent — say Trump and Biden are a risky choice for president.

Biden’s improvement in our poll since February is correlated with a downtick in the share of voters saying he is too old to be an effective president. Most of that change comes from voters over 65, who are 17 percentage points less likely to be concerned about Biden’s age than they were in February.

In our latest Times/Siena poll , voters gave former President Donald Trump higher marks on how he handled the economy, immigration and foreign conflicts while in office than they did President Biden. Voters generally thought Biden did a better job of handling the coronavirus pandemic and unifying the United States than Trump did.

Donald Trump, explaining his changed stance on a federal abortion ban, said on Friday: “We broke Roe v. Wade. We did something that nobody thought was possible — we gave it back to the states.” At the same time, he said he disagreed with the Arizona court ruling this week that restored an 1864 law banning abortion.

In his final rally before his New York trial begins, Trump again cast himself as a political victim.

Two days before his first criminal trial was set to begin in Manhattan, former President Donald J. Trump on Saturday again framed the charges he faces as a broad attempt by Democrats to keep him from the White House, and he criticized a gag order placed on him by the judge in the New York case.

“Two days from now, the entire world will witness the commencement of the very first Biden trial,” Mr. Trump said at a rally in eastern Pennsylvania, alluding to his frequent and false assertion that President Biden orchestrated the New York case.

The case, which Mr. Trump also called a “communist show trial,” was brought by the Manhattan district attorney’s office and has nothing to do with Mr. Biden.

As he often does, Mr. Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, cast himself as a victim of political persecution who is protecting his followers from a similar fate.

“I’m proud to do it for you,” he said of going on trial, speaking to a large crowd of his supporters who had waited for hours before gathering in a windswept field in Schnecksville, Pa. “Have a good time watching.”

There will not be television cameras in the courtroom. But Mr. Trump has sometimes held news conferences after his court dates, using them as an extension of the campaign trail, and he is expected to continue holding rallies on weekends, as he has for months.

Mr. Trump’s rally on Saturday began as Iran was launching an aerial attack on Israel in retaliation for a deadly Israeli airstrike two weeks ago.

The former president, who often portrays himself as Israel’s staunchest ally, offered prayers and support for the country. Then, as he often does, Mr. Trump effectively blamed Mr. Biden for the conflict in Gaza and insisted it would not have happened if he had won in 2020.

“They’re under attack right now,” Mr. Trump said of Israel. “That’s because we show great weakness.”

Several minutes later, members of the crowd began chanting, “Genocide Joe,” a phrase more commonly associated with progressives protesting Mr. Biden’s support for Israel’s war in Gaza.

Mr. Trump has repeatedly said that he backed Israel’s right to defend itself after a Hamas-led attack on Oct. 7. But, as the chants died down, he seemed to agree with them. “They’re not wrong,” he said.

Mr. Trump repeated his false claims that he won the 2020 election and that Democrats cheated him out of a victory several times. Mr. Biden won Pennsylvania in 2020 by more than 80,000 votes.

“They cheat like hell,” Mr. Trump said of his political opponents, an allegation of voter fraud that has not been supported by evidence. He continued by sowing doubts about the integrity of the election in November, telling his supporters: “When you see them cheating, you get out there and start screaming. Start screaming.”

Mr. Trump also criticized a gag order imposed on him in the Manhattan case, in which he has been accused of covering up a sex scandal surrounding the 2016 campaign.

That order prevents Mr. Trump from publicly attacking witnesses, jurors, court staff and prosecutors, though not the judge or Manhattan’s district attorney.

“I will be forced to sit fully gagged. I’m not allowed to talk,” Mr. Trump said. “Can you believe it? They want to take away my constitutional right to talk.”

Trump rallied in Pennsylvania, his last before his New York criminal trial begins.

Former President Donald J. Trump was in Pennsylvania on Saturday for a rally in Schnecksville, his last scheduled campaign event before his criminal trial in New York begins on Monday.

For more than a year, Mr. Trump has been shadowed by felony cases related to actions he took before, during and after his presidency. Alvin L. Bragg, the district attorney in Manhattan, indicted Mr. Trump on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in the first degree, accusing him of covering up a sex scandal surrounding the 2016 presidential campaign.

The former president faces dozens of additional felony charges in three other criminal cases, all of which remain in pretrial proceedings. At least one of those cases could go to trial before the general election in November.

Mr. Trump spent the week before the start of his New York trial in retreat on his abortion policy. On Monday, he made a firm commitment that abortion policies should be left to the states and that “whatever they decide must be the law of the land.”

By Friday, Mr. Trump was openly criticizing strict bans in states like Florida and Arizona, and he said on social media that the Arizona State Legislature should “ACT IMMEDIATELY” to change a near-total abortion ban in the state that was enacted in 1864. The state’s top court upheld the ban in a ruling on Tuesday.

Vice President Kamala Harris, who held a rally in Tucson, Ariz., on Friday, excoriated Mr. Trump for what she and the Biden campaign have said is his direct responsibility for the strict abortion bans being enacted in some states. Ms. Harris highlighted Mr. Trump’s repeated boasting that he is “proudly the person responsible” for overturning the constitutional right to abortion once enshrined in Roe v. Wade. Nearly simultaneously from his private residence in Palm Beach, Fla., Mr. Trump bragged about his role once again.

“We broke Roe v. Wade,” he said during a joint news conference with the speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, Republican of Louisiana. “We did something that nobody thought was possible.”

The fallout from the Arizona Supreme Court’s decision comes as a New York Times/Siena College poll taken this week found that Mr. Biden had nearly erased Mr. Trump’s early polling advantage in the presidential race amid signs that some in the president’s base have come around to supporting him. The two candidates are now virtually tied, with Mr. Trump holding a 46 percent to 45 percent edge.

Kristi Noem, the South Dakota governor and Trump V.P. contender, is barred from tribal lands.

Four of South Dakota’s federally recognized Native American tribes have barred the state’s governor, Kristi Noem — a Republican whose name has been floated as a potential running mate for former President Donald J. Trump — from their reservations. The latest blocked Ms. Noem on Thursday .

Three of the tribes barred Ms. Noem this month, joining another tribe that had sanctioned the governor after she told state lawmakers in February that Mexican drug cartels had a foothold on their reservations and were committing murders there.

Ms. Noem further angered the tribes with remarks she made at a town hall event last month in Winner, S.D., appearing to suggest that the tribes were complicit in the cartels’ presence on their reservations.

“We’ve got some tribal leaders that I believe are personally benefiting from the cartels being there, and that’s why they attack me every day,” Ms. Noem said.

The tribes are the Cheyenne River Sioux, the Rosebud Sioux and the Standing Rock Sioux and the Oglala Sioux, which in February became the first group to bar Ms. Noem from its reservation. Their reservations have a combined population of nearly 50,000 people and encompass more than eight million acres, according to state and federal government counts. Standing Rock Indian Reservation, the third tribal area to have restricted Ms. Noem’s access, extends into North Dakota.

The tribes have accused Ms. Noem of stoking fears and denigrating their heritage when she referred to a gang known as the Ghost Dancers while addressing state lawmakers and said that it had recruited tribal members to join its criminal activities.

The gang has the same name as the participants in the Native American ghost dance ceremony , a sacred ritual dating to the 19th century.

“Gov. Kristi Noem’s wild and irresponsible attempt to connect tribal leaders and parents with Mexican drug cartels is a sad reflection of her fear-based politics that do nothing to bring people together to solve problems,” Janet Alkire, the chairwoman of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, said in a statement this week.

Ms. Noem stood by her comments in a statement to The New York Times on Friday.

“Tribal leaders should immediately banish the Mexican drug cartels that are responsible for murders, rapes, drug addiction and many more crimes on tribal lands,” she said. “The people in the communities live with unspeakable horrors and tragedy every day, but banishing me for telling the truth about the suffering does nothing to solve the problems. It may play well for the leftist media, but in reality, it’s pointless.”

When asked about Ms. Noem’s claims that tribal leaders were benefiting from the cartels’ presence on reservations, an aide pointed to her recent remarks to The Dakota Scout , an alternative newspaper based in Sioux Falls, S.D., doubling down on them and criticizing the tribes’ response to the cartels.

“That tells me that they are tied to them or benefiting from them somehow, that they’re allowing them to stay in their communities,” she said.

The governor’s office provided photos to The Times that it said were from a gang promotion ceremony featuring several men wearing clothing adorned with Ghost Dancers patches. The Times was unable to verify the images independently.

It also released a recording of a conversation that it said was between the secretary of the South Dakota Department of Tribal Relations and a leader of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe in which they discussed how a single Tribal Council representative from South Dakota had voted to bar Ms. Noem from its reservation. The remaining votes came from Tribal Council members who reside in North Dakota, according to the governor’s office.

Efforts to reach the Tribal Council member said to be in the recording were not immediately successful.

In a social media post on Thursday, Ms. Noem argued that her comments about cartel activity on the reservations were similar to remarks that Senator Jon Tester, Democrat of Montana, made last month before the Senate Indian Affairs Committee.

“We’ve got cartels in Indian Country,” he said, using an expletive to say there was a lot of “bad” stuff going on.

Mr. Tester, a member of the Indian Affairs Committee, had been pushing for additional law enforcement resources for tribal lands, mirroring calls from tribal leaders in Montana for help from the federal government in addressing crime. His comments differed in tenor from Ms. Noem’s, and he did not level accusations that tribal leaders were complicit in the rise of the cartels on reservations.

A spokesman for Mr. Tester, who is running for re-election in a crucial contest for control of the Senate, declined to comment on Friday.

In November, the Oglala Sioux Tribe, citing a rise in drug-related offenses, assaults and homicides on its reservation, declared a state of emergency , which remains in effect.

Then, in January, the tribe accused the federal government in a lawsuit of failing to provide adequate funding as required by longstanding treaties for law enforcement coverage on the reservation, an area larger than Rhode Island and Delaware combined.

The tribe said in its lawsuit that it receives enough federal funding for only 33 police officers and eight criminal investigators, which it said had contributed to an uptick in crime. But the tribe pushed back against Ms. Noem’s claims that the cartels were using the reservation to facilitate the spread of illegal drugs and said that the problem existed when Mr. Trump was president.

The cartels’ reach on tribal lands is gaining heightened attention on Capitol Hill, where at least two congressional panels recently focused on surging crime connected to the groups.

At a hearing on Wednesday, Jeffrey Stiffarm, a tribal leader from Montana, told a House oversight committee that “these drug cartels are specifically targeting Indian Country because of a dangerous combination of rural terrain, history of addiction, under-resourced law enforcement, legal loopholes, sparsely populated communities and exorbitant profits, and it is devastating tribal reservations.”

South Dakota has nine federally recognized Native American tribes, which have at times sparred with Ms. Noem over issues related to their sovereignty , her support for the now-halted Keystone XL pipeline and access to their reservations at the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

The president of the Oglala Sioux Tribe, which in 2019 lifted a previous barring of her, said the governor’s political ambitions had motivated her actions.

In a statement posted on Facebook in February, the president, Frank Star Comes Out, said that “the truth of the matter is that Governor Noem wants the use of the so-called ‘invasion’ of the southern border as a Republican ‘crisis’ issue” to encourage Mr. Trump to use it as a campaign issue and to select her as his running mate.

At the Conservative Political Action Conference later in February, a straw poll showed Ms. Noem tied for the top choice to be Mr. Trump’s running mate .

The tribes’ criticism of Ms. Noem began after the governor addressed a joint session of the South Dakota Legislature on Feb. 2 about the tide of illegal border crossings.

“Make no mistake, the cartels have a presence on several of South Dakota’s tribal reservations,” she said. “Murders are being committed by cartel members on the Pine Ridge Reservation and in Rapid City, and a gang called the Ghost Dancers are affiliated with these cartels. They have been successful in recruiting tribal members to join their criminal activity.”

Ms. Noem said the state government did not have the jurisdiction to intervene and provide law enforcement support to South Dakota’s tribes.

On Thursday, Ms. Noem announced that South Dakota would begin offering training to tribal law enforcement officers , who currently must travel to New Mexico for it.

Mr. Trump has acknowledged that Democrats have a clear electoral advantage when running on abortion, and he has repeatedly complained that Republicans do not know how to talk about the issue .

But Mr. Trump is encountering his own difficulties in speaking on the issue. On Monday, he said that abortion should be left to the states , and that “whatever they decide must be the law of the land.” On Wednesday, he went further, saying he would not sign a federal abortion ban if elected president. Early on Friday, he posted a message on social media urging Republicans in the Arizona State Legislature to “ACT IMMEDIATELY” to change a near-total abortion ban in the state that was enacted in 1864.
